Spent 5 nights at the rosewood mayakoba in November , just before thanksgiving. The hotel is beautiful, the villas are perfect, and the Japanese restaurant with the tequila library is one I will always remember. Could not say enough about the staff as well as how we were treated in all the restaurants. We went with our kids( both married) and our 3 month old grandson and all of us are looking forward to our next vacation at the rosewood.

Room Tip: All the villas are excellent. There are no rooms.

My partner and I just returned from a "babymoon" at the Rosewood Mayakoba. We had a fantastic time and our expectations were exceeded. The staff were all friendly, helpful and readily available to answer questions, etc. The room was beautiful, always clean and functional. The one time we had difficulty with a light switch that shocked my partner, they fixed it immediately. The food was delicious and the grounds were lovely and well planned out. Because I was pregnant, we did not partake in all the activities available, so I cannot comment on everything. However, all of our dinner reservations, transportation, etc. were organized and well planned. There were no surprises on the final bill either. We enjoyed chatting with the staff and each person we talked said he or she really liked working there. In my experience, there seems to be a direct correlation between the morale of the staff and the experience of the guest. It would appear that the management treats their staff as respected and valuable members of their team. Well done, Rosewood Mayakoba!

Room Tip: All the rooms looked pretty cool, but being near the beach was really nice. We were in an oceanview...

We came back to Mayakoba for the 2nd year in a row to celebrate our anniversary. Last year we stayed at the Banyan Tree (also on the grounds) and ate dinner at the Rosewood and wanted to check it out for ourselves.

We came for 5 nights the end of April '13 - early May. We had THE BEST time!! This resort is fancy pants start to finish. We arrived late so didn't get taken to our room on a boat which is customary. Our room was over the lagoon and beautiful! The plunge pool is heated which is a big plus making it more like a hot tub than a pool. Views of the lagoon were beautiful and very quiet. We couldn't see or hear our neighbors and enjoyed the sounds of the birds and ducks. We saw quite a few turtles from our room as well.

The room itself is awesome! It's ample space, a sitting room, outdoor space, the actual bedroom + a fabulous bathroom. The bathroom is awesome too and we really enjoyed both the tub and outdoor shower. In terms of comparing it to the Banyan Tree, it was a better bathroom because of the outdoor shower and indoor tub (v the outdoor only tub at the BT).

The beach amenities were such a treat! We enjoyed sunglasses cleaning, head massages, popsicles, mini pizzas, fruit sorbet, bite sized chocolate covered cheesecake etc...They are quite attentive at the beach and pool. They replenish your water with ice all day long. We preferred the beach because you could sit on chairs on a terrace that was literally 10 feet from the water so you could enjoy the smells/sounds of the ocean without getting sandy! And we were just steps from the infinity pool. The food is obviously pricey by the pool/beach but to be expected at a hotel like this.

The breakfast buffet was great and was included for us. They make any hot item (we liked the pancakes and scrambled egg whites) and anything you want to drink (soy cappuccinos please).

The service is ridiculous! They are in your room several times/day so it's always perfectly clean. The butlers check in with you daily to see what you need (excursions, dinner reservations etc...) and was a nice personal touch. It's basically a more personalized concierge service.

We took the private transport offered through the hotel to/from the Cancun airport and think it's worth the money. It's easy, safe and they drivers were very friendly.

I had a 90 min massage at the Spa which was great. Highly recommend the Spa, great facilities (hot + cold plunge, steam room, sauna...)

Punta Bonita has good Mexican food, the guac is delish. They have churros with dulce de leche sauce and vanilla ice cream, omg - so good!! We also ate at the Sushi place (just ok) and ate at Casa del Lago for dinner which was pretty good. Our favorite meal was at Tamarind at the Banyon Tree.

Overall, amazing trip! The grounds are gorgeous, everything is clean, the people are so welcoming and polite and we can't wait to go back! And though Banyan Tree was awesome, Rosewood was better. Better rooms, better beach set up, heated plunge. If you are debating, I'd suggest spending the extra money to stay here.

Room Tip: We were in Room 211 over the lagoon and thought it was a great room and location. We were a very sho...

We loved our 5 day visit to Rosewood Mayakoba. I'm not much for writing reviews so this will be quite short, but it was truly incredible. Amazing spa services, great food, nice beach, beautiful ocean front room with plunge pool. Even better was the staff - everyone is gracious, helpful, lovely, and truly seems happy to be there. This is a can't miss hotel as far as I'm concerned!

Room Tip: Can't comment on the lagoon rooms, we had an ocean front suite which was lovely. Fun also to re...

We loved this resort! Our suite, 423, was on the lagoon, private, spacious, comfortable and immaculate; there was always bottled water and fresh fruit. The butler and concierge staff were constantly offering to attend to our every need. I spent a great deal of time in the back of the suite, in and out of the plunge pool, having room service for lunch, listening to the birds whistling and cackling and watching the iguana's, turtles, fish and ducks, while my husband golfed nearby. The pools were lovely and the beach was pristine, I appreciated that we could snack and get drinks throughout the day when we lounged there. The spa services were excellent, I was concerned that they may not be since I had a negative experience at another luxury resort a few years ago in another part of Mexico. The buffet breakfast was a delight, at least 9 different fresh fruit options, yogurts, cheeses, fresh juices, meats, smoked salmon, a small table with gluten free options and of course all of the gluten you could wish for if you eat that sort of thing. We usually added a Mexican egg specialty as well, what a way to start the day! After a few days we used the bicycles to get around during the day and either walked or took the golf cart transportation wherever we were going at night. One night we ate at Casa del Lago, it was very good but we wanted more upscale Mexican food on the menu and one night we ate at Punta Bonita, which we loved since we had the opportunity to try many types of Mexican fare. We will be back!!

We just returned from 5 days in paradise. My husband and I were looking for somewhere to relax, unwind, be pampered, eat well, and have some fun too- Rosewood met all our expectations & then some. From the moment we arrived we were treated like royalty, its as if they can not do enough to please you. The rooms are huge, clean, and having our own private backyard overlooking the lagoon was a wonderful treat. We also loved the private sundeck upstairs.
The spa Sense is top-notch, and I had one of the best swedish massages of my life.
The food is great- the breakfast buffet is not to be missed, and if you dont care for one of the many selections on the menu, they will make you anything.
We spent two nights in playa del carmen for dinner which was a nice break from the serenity at the hotel. Great restaurants and bars, and only a 20 minute ride into town.
The pool and beach are both breathtaking, but i would say that its not really a beach hotel as the sand and water can be quite rocky. We mostly spent our time on the pool lounges overlooking the sea. Beautiful!
What really makes this hotel exceptional are the people who work there. They are the lovliest employees who genuinely seem happy to work there. Why wouldnt they, its so gorgeous!
Our butler, DJ was phenomenal. He was not too intrusive, but seemed to always be there when we needed him. We really didn't need to use the concierge because DJ took care of everything. He even unpacked for us!
Also worthy of mentions were Gabriel at the pool bar- happiest man on earth!
Hugo, Jose, Damian, and many more that I cant remember, all were outstanding!
Rosewood, thank you for a truly memorable stay!

Room Tip: We were in the 400's which is a bit far from the lobby and beach, but there are golf carts ridin...

My husband and I stayed here in February 2013 for 8 nights for our anniversary. We stayed on the adult-only Spa Island since this was a getaway from our three daughters at home. The room was fantastic - much larger than we actually needed for just the two of us, but we LOVED the heated plunge pool and the outdoor shower. We were happy to stay on the Spa Island for most of the trip, mainly just to escape from the inordinate amount of poorly behaved children (which we were not expecting at such a high end resort). We avoided the beach and beach pool for this reason. However, we could not avoid the crowds of kids at breakfast (which was delicious). I felt they should have tried to seat adult only groups in one area of the restaurant with families with children in another. My appetite was ruined one morning when a young boy next to me in a banquet was distracted from throwing the cushions onto my feet by instead playing "chef" and mixing his green juice with his mom's latte making a gross curdled concoction while I tried to enjoy my food. We ultimately started asking to be seated away from children, but there were so many that it was usually impossible. Granted, this was in the middle of February, not exactly high season for school break travelers...

I would suggest dining at the beach restaurant for dinner - the traditional mexican tapas were wonderful (don't miss the softshell crab tacos). Skip Agava Azul altogether. The main restaurant in the lobby is okay for dinner maybe once during the trip... but a little stuffy for our relaxed spa week in flip flops.

The Spa is amazing! Definitely take advantage of the ability to use the facilities daily. The only downside is that poolside service at the spa pool is lacking. We often had to search someone down to order drinks/lunch by the spa or spa pool.

We are accustomed to traveling to to an island that takes us 30 hours to fly to, but were hoping to find a quick quiet escape in Rosewood Mayakoba for long couples weekends here and there. Not sure if we'll return since the point is to have a break from our three kids at home, rather than be annoyed by other guests poorly behaved children.

Rosewood - I would suggest finding additional ways to make couples traveling sans children feel like they're on an adult getaway (maybe add an adult restaurant on the spa island, or have suggested dining times for families with young children?)
