“If you like people watching.....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

We stayed at this hotel in early December. We traveled with another couple and had a really good time. The beach is right out the front door with waiters from next door ready to take your order. It's not a huge beach area directly in front, but lots of good people watching. Massages are just a few feet away and worth the money. The staff takes great care of you. They were very helpful when we had to change our return travel plans due to illness. The room was comfy and clean. Our favorite thing to do was to bring hot dogs back from the wonderful stand down the street and eat lunch on the beach with a cold beer. Very relaxing!

This hotel is one of the best we have stayed with in Playa Del Carmen. The staff was great especially Carlos. The beach is fabulous with plenty of chairs. Drinks and food from the beach club next door were readily available. The continental breakfast was very good but simple. The room was well equipped with fridge, microwave, toaster and a very good blender which we used to make our own pina coladas. I do wish they had king size beds instead of queen size but it is a minor point. At only 40 rooms this is not the big resort experience. Very laid back. We will go back to this hotel.

Dear Guest,

Thanks for your kind review our hotel. I will pass on your compliments to our concierge/Bellboy Carlos, that will make him happy.

the inhouse breakfasts served directly on the balconies is a new feature and I am glad to hear you enjoyed it. Included in the room price is continental breakfast, but you may also order a fruit plate and some other extra cold items.

Regarding beds, we have almost only queen beds, but if a king bed is important, please send us an email and we will make our best to accomodate you in a room with a king bed.

Sunny greetings

My husband and I just returned last week from our stay at Playa Palms and thoroughly enjoyed our 9 days at this cozy oasis in the city. We stayed on the 2nd floor room 205 and loved waking up to our view of the ocean, beach and pool every morning. We were celebrating our anniversary and the hotel staff decorated our bed with flowers and towel art and sent up a bottle of champagne, very nice! The staff were all very friendly and attentive and helpful with any questions we had. Special thanks to Carlos and Luis for everything!

The hotel is well maintained and very clean. The bed was very comfortable and we didn't notice any noise from the clubs next door. We enjoyed having our breakfast on our patio every morning which is delivered to you. It is a light breakfast which includes coffee, tea, fresh squeezed orange juice, toast, croissants and jams. If you want something more you can go next door to Indigo Restaurant on the beach and they have a full buffet. We just made scrambled eggs in our own kitchenette, so it was perfect! You can see your neighbour's on their decks but everyone was respectful and it didn't bother us as everyone is facing the ocean and taking in that beautiful view! We enjoyed a few dips in the pool which was really refreshing.

We found the beach to be beautiful and didn't mind the boats. We enjoyed watching the local fisherman going about their daily routine. There was some seaweed on the beach our first day but that is common after a storm or windy day and crews came in to clean it up and left it beautiful and weed free! We didn't mind wading in for a swim between the boats. You can walk both ways on the beach for literally miles and take it all in. We spent a day at Mamitas beach a 10 min walk North of us which is gorgeous but is very crowded. Playacar beach 10 mins walk to the South of us was less crowded with torquoise waters and white sand as far as the eye can see. There are plenty of loungers and umbrellas for hotel guest use set up on the beach each day. Waiters from Amarind restaurant just 2 doors down on the beach will come and bring you food and drinks during the day. We loved the fish tacos and margueritas! There are hundreds of restaurants right around the hotel on the beach and a block up on 5th Ave. Our favorite dinner was at Indigo restaurant next door for salmon, spinach and ricotta ravioli and great wine. Overall we loved our stay here and will definitely be back!

Dear guest,

I am happy to hear you enjoyed your anniversary stay with us. Thanks for the long and descriptive review you are giving of our hotel and the surroundings.

It is positive to hear your remarks about our breakfasts delivered to the rooms. we put a lot of effort into creating a service so that our guests can enjoy a breakfast inhouse with a view over the sea in the morning. I am glad that you were happy with it. at the moment we offer the complimentary continental breakfasts with option of fruit plates and some other cold items as extras.

I will send your regards to Luis and Carlos.

greetings from Playa.

My husband and I have stayed twice at Playa Palms, both times for 11 days each. We don't care for the all-inclusive, so we think these condo's are the way to go. The staff is very courteous and helpful, not to mention our rooms were spotless each day. Every room has a great view and the beach area is awesome! 2 blocks to the famous 5th ave. shopping and restaurants... love this place and we will always stay at Playa Palms when in Playa del Carmen!!

Room Tip: We like the top floor rooms as the view is the best. The closer to beach front the better!

This boutique condo was the way to go if you don't want to go the all inclusive route. The staff were helpful and courteous and they kept the rooms very clean. We even were able to move to a room right on the beach (paid for the upgrade but it was worth it) and they moved all of our stuff. It's within walking distance of everything and their beach was well maintained. Nightclubs around the corner were loud but you couldn't even hear it. I would absolutely recommend this place. Thank you, Playa Palms!!

Dear Alli,

Thank you so much, for staying with us and for writing this review of our hotel.

We have 6 oceanfront rooms, and although all our rooms are decoraded in the same way, it is of course different to be first in the row in front of the sea.

Kind regards,

My wife and I stayed 12 days at the Playa and had a wonderful time!! here are just a few things I thought I would share. We would out of bed around 8:00 and have our coffee waiting for us at our patio table but you do need to fill out the breakfast slip the first day to get in the system and each day from there on out. The coffee was very good and is included with your room, you also recieved toast, croisssants, butter and jam and for 50 peso's you could a nice fruit plate. The kitchen had everything you will need to cook a full meal as far as tools go nothing else.. that's up to you to bring or buy. As all hotel beds.. yes it was firm but we had a fold out sofa in our room (202) and we discovered that foam mattress was the same size as the bed so it went on the top of the bed on day 2.
The beach was fine by us and there was never a problem with getting a chair and you will quickly discover that they pack chairs and beds in like cattle at a large pecentage of the nearby resorts, keep this in mind if you feel like complaining about the boats, seaweed or small beach.. we found the boats to be charming and the seaweed did come...it is a ocean so you have to expect it, the cleaning crews were always cleaning the beach everywhere. We would take a long walk each morning and we liked going north or if you where facing the ocean it would be left, after the second point the buildings stop and is very quite and hardly any people...pack a picnic in your backpack and take advantage of this beautiful gift away from the hustle. The south walk was nice and the beach was one of the best but it is all resorts..forever.
We dined on 5th a couple times and it was good and also pricy, we found a couple hidden gems off the main drag and this is why we go.. For the best taco's you need to go to Don Sirlion, just ask someone where CoCo Bongo is and it's right acrossed the street..20 bucks will fill you with beer and taco's and that's for 2 people! Next would be on the corner of 5th Ave and 38th.. don't worry you will figure the town real fast. The name excapes me (Las Parillas) ??but you will see 6 bars stools in front of a 10 foot long open bar, best steak, buger, lemon chicken, saugage we have ever had and it's cooked over a wood fire in front of you..again 15-25 bucks..get a Dos
Equis next door at the corner party store as the owners are cool with it. Next would be Al Vollo a charming 6 table mom and pop Italian joint with a wonderful menu..5th Ave and 34 maybe 3 blocks down on 34th...we had both had a caprese salad, shrimp pesto lasagna, glass of white wine and a coconut brownie icecream gift from heaven..31.00 bucks!! If you want to go out for a wonder breakfast check out Chez Celine french bakery on 5th around 32 street.. again awesome and under 25.00 You can find live music on 5th everynight but theres are only a handful of bands so you may see them twice. Totally enjoyed our stay and will go back next year!

Room Tip: 202 great view second floor second from beach

Dear Crafty,

Good to hear you enjoyed our hotel and your stay in Playa del Carmen.

Regarding the beach, I am of course biassed, but when I walk along the beach in Playa, I am surprised how crammed the other hotel beaches are. this is a benefit staying with Playa Palms because, the beach is exclusive to our own guests, so you will always have plenty of space and easy access to beach chairs.

I am also happy to hear you enjoyed our new service, the complimentary breakfasts served on the terrace.

Thank you so much for staying with us and for taking the time to write this review.

This is the second consecutive year we stayed at Playa Palms and we are already looking forward to coming back next year. The location is excellent right on beach and a 2 block walk to shopping and resturants. The staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and provided some great tips on visiting cenotes and Akumal.

Continental Breakfast was a welcome new feature this year. The fresh fruit and breads made a nice start to each day.
