We have stayed at this hotel 5 times in the last 7 years. The location is pretty nice, close to downtown, but the fishing boats anchor on the beach in front, but we have always been OK with that. Property is maintained nicely, looks better than past. But.... toilet had puddles around it on occasion. Was told by someone also staying there that Playa Palms was the only place he used his credit card, and that the next day there was $2K in nearby Office Depot charges. Our friends said they had weird charges as well. Last night of our stay there was loud remodelling work being done on two of the units ( they all kind of face each other) with the patio doors wide open complete with tons of banging and hammering( we were told something about a phone line....doubtful, husband is a builder and appeared to him that it was the HVAC being redone) ALL NIGHT LONG!! Charges were indeed higher, because they gave themselves a very favorable exchange rate( $1 to 11) pesos after quoting us in US dollars. It sounded generous to me until I realized my credit card had to change it back to US at the lower daily exchange rates, even taking exchange fees into consideration, it was still off by about $20. I will look elsewhere for next visit.
