“Great service, beautiful resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Four of us stayed in a unit at the Royal Haciendas in April 2012. It was extremely roomy, with two full bedrooms, two balconies, a large full kitchen, dining and sitting areas. The main restaurant serves a different buffet style each night, so after traveling to Playa del Carmen the first night, we ended up eating at the hotel every other. Because of the large kitchen and the great grocery store within the hotel, we cooked most breakfasts in the room. The pools are beautiful and heated, which is a big deal in the cooler winter months. There are lots of activities and we enjoy fun spanish and dance classes. Very relaxing atmosphere, beautiful beaches and pools. The service is exceptional. Most service providers speak very good english.

Room Tip: Every location is good. The smaller lock out side is a very large hotel room, including large bath...

Yes, I am an owner. The reason I chose to buy here is the close proximity to Playa del Carmen, yet the isolation on the beach and the weather. It's a healthy walk to the next hotels and into town. Plenty of activities for the family - Yoga, AquaAerobics, Snorkeling, Jogging, Games, Pool and Beach Volleyball. Equipment for golf and water sports available. Excellent dive shop on premises. The restaurants are very good with good variety-elegant, buffet, a la carte, and pool bar/grill. A reasonably priced grocery store is off the lobby. A beautiful environment with mosiac pools, landscaping and water features, infinity pools and a white shell beach - wide and well-maintained and a friendly well-trained staff. I find this resort is safe and user-friendly. Yes, the view of the sea from the upper floors is spectacular, Cozumel lies on the surface of the sea, while the young landscaping screens some of the lower villas' view, but that will change in a few years with the growth of the trees. The wi-fi will improve as demand increases. This management group is pretty responsive to guests requests. A lovely respite from the winter of Central Illinois. Take the Back of the House tour. It's phenominal how this resort is run.

Room Tip: Villas facing the south have full sun all day. North facing villas have sun on the terrace early in...

My parents are timeshare owners and we've been going down there for the last 4 years. Everyone is so friendly and the resort is beautiful! The beaches are kept immaculately clean and couldn't be more gorgeous. I love that I can take my time getting to the beach in the morning b/c I can almost always find a lounger and a palapa for some shade. They aren't all taken by 7am by folks who won't even occupy them for hours and hours. The water is a gorgeous blue and turquoise.

I will say there are a few drawbacks: the gym is not free (but, well, let's be honest, I wouldn't use it anyways), the wifi is beyond slow - but free! and you can upgrade and pay for faster service (which we did not do), and the food - to be honest, it isn't the best - but it isn't bad either! Also, it would be great if there were more shuttles to the town - but again, it's only a $10 cab ride so not really a big deal. One last little nit picky - all of our pillows were rather lumpy.

The last thing I'll say is that I'm disappointed RR is no longer associated with Interval as I think RCI has terrible options for trading - but again, we never trade so I'm not sure that will be a big deal either.

Everyone at his hotel were so nice and helpful, spoke great english. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. This was the cleanest hotel I've ever stayed in. Beautiful clean beach. They had a great little market that had everything you could need or you can make the short trip into town. This was a very quiet and relaxing resort, very family oriented, but not annoyingly so.

They have a complimentary shuttle Monday-Friday however they book up very quickly and the times are not very convenient. The last one into town is 6:30 and the last one back to the hotel is 6:00. The taxis are not expensive but it would be nice if the shuttle had more times and more of them. That my friends is my only complaint. I loved this place and look forward to staying there again.

Just got back from a week spent at the haciendas. Only negatives were the slow (but free wifi) Internet that kept asking for a password every 10min instead of keeping you logged on (we could have paid more for faster Internet but it was more than we wanted to pay) & also the service at the pool was sometimes spotty or slow- when you didn't want to order anything the waiters were asking you every 5-10min if you wanted something then, when you did want to order they were no where to be found, or you'd order and they'd seem to forget about you. Also the La Palapas restaurant while having good food, I would suggest ordering the buffet special if you want to eat at a reasonable time. We went for dinner, they told us we could order off the menu & it took at least 45min to get appetizers-soup & shrimp cocktail (no cooking required) and our main courses took even longer.... Overall we had a great time. The place is very clean & well kept. The gym while small always had a cardio machine open to use & the spa was wonderful. We will be returning....

We have stayed at 3 Royal Resorts over the years and have enjoyed all: the Maya, the Sands, and Haciendas in Playa del Carmen. I bought preconstruction at Haciendas not only because of its beautiful location, quality, and reputation of the company, but also because I was an II member and I could thus trade my II timeshares into Royal Haciendas or vice versa. This incentive for Royal Resorts ownership has become a disincentive and costly inconvenience because Royal Resorts has removed itself from II and as affiliated with RCI. In speaking to other owners during my recent stay at Royal Haciendas (to which I have been going for the last 6 years), I find many are in agreement with me and are unhappy with this move on the part of management.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking time to post about our resort.

As you point out: Royal Resorts is now affiliated with RCI and no longer has a contract with II. However, Royal Resorts members who still have a current membership with II will be able to deposit and exchange their Royal Resorts weeks and use other Interval International services until their II membership expires. Royal Resorts will be sending information about RCI enrollment in March. It would be possible for members to be enrolled in both RCI and II if they are already members of II but they would not be able to deposit the same week in both systems. You may wish to consult articles previously published on this subject  in the Members News section in the Members Area of royalresorts.com (Royal Resorts member log in required)

We kindly invite you to contact us directly if need further assistance and also to not believe in rumors spread by unofficial channels.

We hope to welcome you again soon.

Warm Regards

Haven't been down to Cancun/Playa for almost 20 years but loved the diving and people on this trip. Stayed 2/12/-2/19/2013. My gf prefers all inclusive where I would rather be bare bones. Like other reviewers, the tip/key/receipt system is cumbersome and trying as an all inclusive guest. All inclusive visitors receive a bracelet to wear at all times and as a result, are treated as 2nd class citizens compared to the paying visitors (my GF's major complaint). We had dinner at Los Murales, the high end restaurant, once. Every time we tried to call and make a reservation they would say they were full booked. Meanwhile, we walked by at different times and they are at less than 10% capacity. The only thing we could deduce was that they only let a minimal amount of all inclusive people dine there. The rooms were great but we did have to change rooms - a little hectic due to me going diving for the day and they give you little notice. The ocean view is nice on higher level rooms but minimal on the first/2nd floor. Everything else was exceptional - the activities desk was great - snorkeling, kayaks, volleyball, tennis - all available and equipment provided. The food was above average - even the buffet. They always have two or more options - Mexican and otherwise. Food by the pool was grear...bar food but the fish tacos were above average. Room service was delivered very quickly. 140 peso taxi to Playa - about ten minutes. I dove with an off site operator but visited the dive desk and they were very helpful and competent. My GF had a bad experience with the Spa (facial) but I will let her give the details. If we return in the future to Playa - we will definitely look into the Royal Haciendas.

Room Tip: Try to get on the 3rd or 4th floor closer to the ocean. Rooms that are"B" e.g. G352B will...
