“Great vacation resort!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

Royal Haciendas is a wonderful place for a vacation. The facility is beautifully maintained and offers a variety of facilities. Our villa easily accommodated 6 people. The full-size kitchen was a plus. We shopped in the grocery store onsite and were able to make breakfast and light lunches without going out. The food at the restaurants was good. The staff at the Haciendas was very helpful and went out of their way to make sure we had a great experience. The range of activities is impressive--something for just about everyone. We definitely will return to the Royal Haciendas.

My wife and I stayed here recently for our honeymoon and really did love it.
The rooms were immaculate and spacious with a great view of the resort and sea.
Staff were all superb and the service they gave was brilliant. A special mention to Eduardo, Carlos, Omar, Raymundo and Ramon. They were all great around the pool and beach. We would be near the end of our drink and another would be delivered.
The food is ok around the pool. What more would you expect though?
I must advise an evening in the Los Murales restaurant. The food in here was excellent. The lobster risotto was something else.
The only downsides are having to sign a bill after a meal and drinks when you are all inclusive. This needs to be looked at, as it wastes time and paper.
If you are looking for nightlife at this resort you should avoid as well. The bar is very quiet as everyone seems to stay in their rooms.
The resort does offer a free shuttle into Playa del Carmen which is lively and full of bars and restaurants.

Also, if you love golf, get a game at Grand Coral. The course is amazing.

Overall a great honeymoon and we can't wait to return. I can't recommend the resort enough. We were gutted to be coming home.
See you next year Mexico.

Room Tip: I would ask for rooms in the middle section action half way down. This gives you a bigger view of ev...

The hotel is very clean, the grounds are very nice and all of the service people we dealt with were very friendly. The hotel is a long walk (1.5 hrs) from PDC center. Not a walk you would probably do daily and for sure not at night. The food/drinks are great at the beach bars and Los Murales, the nightly buffet is below average. The breakfast is also very good...ask for bacon, back in the kitchen area! My husband and I enjoyed our stay very much, but would probably try to stay closer to town next time. Its family friendly and caters towards the older generation (75% is 65yrs and older due to timeshare program). The free internet works 50% of the time.

My wife and I came here for our honeymoon in October of 2010. We had a great experience, however, went at a time when there wasn't a lot of others at the resort. There weren't a lot of activities that were going on at night, as the resort seemed to die off after 8pm. Don't know if that was because everyone there was a resort owner or what.

The food on the resort was good. The bar food wasn't anything spectacular, however, Los Murales was TREMENDOUS!!! Would recommend the seafood stuffed avacado dish to anyone. We loved the half-off happy hour where the drinks were bigger and we were brought chips, salsa, and guacamole too.

Our concierge was the best and did everything and more for us. Would love to go back.

You must first understand that this is a condo/time share resort that has only recently began to use an all-inclusive venue to make some aditional reveune. Thus many if not most of the reviews you read are not from all-inclusive visitors, but rather, owners who no doubt love their property, but also want to see its value sustained.

As someone who enjoys the simplicity of the all-inclusive resort (no, not the free booze, but simplicity) I believe this resort has some problems with its dual approach. First, because there are two types of guests here, everyone must go thru a waiter to get a drink (even water) or any food; you must show your room card, you will then get a bill....which will show that you owe nothing..... except that on your bill is a large line for a "TIP" and your waiter waits for you to sign your receipt and return it to him. He will then give you your room key back. I have signed off on over $100 in tips since I have been here. When I submitted one breakfast check with a 25 pesos tiip (my waiter brought me a cup of coffee) my waiter explained that in US dollars this was only $2.00. So, this is one type of hassle I do not expect at an all-inclusive....and forget the idea of just going up to the bar and asking for anything!

Then of course there is the additional waiting involved with this type of system. You wait for a table, you wait for your waiter, you wait for your waiter to bring you a check.

I also suggest that you look carefully at the resort's pictures. Your junior delux suite with kitchen probably says "ocean view". Right? Well, maybe that is true. Imagine that the resort is built as a box with condos on all sides. They took a slice out of the middle of the wall on the side next to the ocean. So, most units can see thru this slot and see a slice of ocean. Your real view however is of the tiled court yard, snack shack, etc.

The resort is more subdued and quiet than many, but the tiled floor in the middle surrounded by brick condos also makes it easy for any noise/music/whistles to echo throughout the resort. Why they had to tile almost every square foot of the place I do not understand. Is certainly makes it easier to keep clean--all they must do is sweep it. The grounds may be beautiful to some but it looked like astro turf to me....look but do not think about touching.

The beach is beautiful. Clearly one of the very nicest beaches i have seen. And the pools are lovely. Unfortunately they are all around the snack shacks where they continually play loud and annoying music.

They rent their time shares on a sat-sat schedule so if you are off that schedule as I was, expect to spend part of a day getting moved to a new unit. They make it sound like it is no big deal, but who wants to pack up in the middle of their stay and wait to get relocated.

The rooms are very nice, but B units do not really have a kitchen. Of course you do not need one for all-inclusive. The beds are very comfortable.

Overall, I did not find this to be what I had expected. Perhaps if you know what you are getting you will have a better reaction. The resort has many positives, just know what you are going to get.

They offer only one special dining option and getting reservations is not that easy.

Room Tip: Insist on a higher level room.

Dear guest,

First of all we would like to thank you for visiting The Royal Haciendas and taking the time to provide us with your valuable feedback relating to the areas in which you feel that there is room for improvement.

The satisfaction of our guests is our utmost concern and we strive to provide memorable experiences for all of them. We're sorry to hear that your vacation experience did not live up to your expectations.

All the Royal Resorts are family oriented, therefore we are committed to providing an extensive variety of activities and entertainment, but we must emphasize that most of these activities are recreational (sports, games, handcrafts, etc.). If at a certain moment you had an unpleasant experience as a result of excessive noise or the unprofessional manner of the person leading the activity, we are always open to suggestions. We are aware that our members and guests know best about what they want and we are here to make it happen.

We would like to apologize for the manners from the waiter, rest assured that's not a behavior we promote. We'll be working closely with our Food & Beverages Manager to identify the areas where we need to improve in order to provide the quality service of a 5-star Resort.

The landscaping team has been working on different projects for several years and they have been adding new gardens and green areas to the facilities. We now have over 120 different species of native plants and trees on the premises, including a Butterfly Garden in Phase II. Our latest addition is the Organic Garden, which is planted with 13 varieties of chilies, lettuce, radish, herbs such as basil, mint and thyme, pomegranate and papaya trees, among others. Guests may harvest herbs to take to their villa and cook a healthy meal.

We still have more projects in the pipeline and we hope they will all satisfy our guests’ need for relaxation and help them reconnect with nature.

We sincerely hope that you will give us the opportunity to serve you again in the future,

Warm Regards.

We're prejudiced being owners for 25+ years and like the Haciendas best of all. We were very concerned about the AI choice, and did not elect to do that as we can't eat $100 each per day, or drink that much. The Hacienda does need another restaurant besides the Palapa del Sol between the two phases of construction. Los Murales, the speciality "gourmet" choice doesn't meet the needs of all guests, nor does the Palapa which is so geared to AI with the buffets. Even though you can order a la carte the care just isn't there since the kitchen is geared to buffet service. We were told a 30 min. wait for a la carte selections. The service is still top notch, very friendly and eager to please, same with maid service. While the Royal Resorts management is trying out AI to see how it works, my vote is to go back to the way the owners were treated in the past and cater to the owners and exploit that niche that doesn;t want to go the AI route. Grounds, beach, and the envoirnment still very well maintained. The internet service is still not up to par despite recently upgrading the free system.

I’m not sure I can say anything bad about The Royal Haciendas (with the All-Inclusive package)! I went with two friends (all three of us females between the ages of 29 and 33) and it was perfect for what we wanted/needed. Everyone working there was really nice and knowledgeable. The bartenders kept the food and drink coming and the food was good! (I’m still waiting for a waiter to bring me some fish tacos at my desk here in Seattle, but I think I’ll be waiting a while.)

This place may not be for the younger folks who are looking for a party place to meet guys/girls and to get smashed and wreak havoc. The atmosphere is family friendly, courteous and very low key and relaxing – definitely what we were looking for. The property is immaculate and the beach is well kept with plenty of umbrellas and beach chairs to go around. Be warned that there aren’t a ton of food choices, and the buffet for dinner left a few things to be desired, but for breakfast it provided plenty of options (I’d say pass on the Bloody Mary though). Food can be ordered poolside or beachside, which was of course a treat. For dinner though Las Murales was the place to go (but ladies, bring a nice sundress and men, bring slacks). The service was impeccable and the food amazing (try the stuffed avocado appetizer!), although note that some of the dishes have a surcharge, but you can definitely still get a meal there that’s fully included in the all-inclusive package.

The town of Playa del Carmen is about a 45 minute walk down the beach and as we walked we all were grateful for the beach that The Royal Haciendas has! As we passed other resorts, many of the other beaches weren’t as well kept, as big, or having as great of views as our resort did. The town is very touristy and overpriced (even for American prices) and it's really built up (they're in the process of building a multi-story mall), so it could be passed on, but it was nice to get out of the resort for the morning as well.

Overall, it was a great trip that provided what we were looking for: sunshine, relaxation, great food and drink, a beach and a swim up bar. Perfection! Now if only my skin would stay tan!
