Initially when I entered the room I was disappointed because of the small room size, lack of a chair and writing table, lack of ocean view, lack of good lighting. However, we came to really appreciate the Blue Parrot for several reasons:

Convenience of a massage while enjoying an ocean view and ocean breezes with the sound of the waves. (Wonderful masseuse. Her name is Martina. Do get a massage as soon as you can. You will want a second. My massage was one of the best that I have ever had.)

Quick, easy one block walk just one door down and around the corner to their beach access, the Blue Parrot Beach Club.

Clean rest room at their beach.

The location is mid Fifth Avenue location and is ideal for strolling Fifth Avenue and taking in the many restraurants and shops and making quick stops back and forth to our room.

Fun, friendly, hard working staff catering to our beverage and food orders.

Complimentary umbrellas, lounge chairs and beach towels available. We chose to tip well each day.

Complimentary continental breakfasts on the deck with an ocean view with option to order from the menu.

Entrance, shared by their restaurant, was attractive. Each time I opend our door in the morning I saw nothing but live green trees and plants.

Air-conditioner muffled the evening music from the clubs on Fifth Ave and beach area.

Room towels were a good quality and most linens seemed new.

Clean linens and towels each day!

Good bathroom ventilation.

A safe in the room.

Friendly staff.

We toured the Blue Parrot Suites which are lovely, but I think if we return to Playa, I would still still stay at the Blue Parrot Fifth Ave.

A few things we thought needed improvement:
The room had only one towel rack and hook so towels had to be hung together. No hooks for long garments.

Daily complimentary water was not provided.

Only two keys were availlable so for the two days when we had an extra guest, we had to share keys.

One English speaking TV Channel. The Academy Awards were in Spanish.

The blue parrot organization is not the company to deal with.we were supposed tostay at the blue parrot on the beach. we called in nov ,after we heard about some trouble there.we were informed that there was no trouble with our reservation. one week before we arrived they phoned back saying they could not fufill our reservation ,and that we would have to stay at the 5th ave hotel instead.with no choices that is where we went.upon arrival we found this hotel not anything like we had reserved.there were no apolegies they just wanted our money.we were able to leave after three days.still no apolegies about the problems with our original res.we talked to several other people while holidaying, and found many others who had trouble with this organization.long story short, the best small hotel in playa would have to be the illusion hotel. great rooms and staff.

After reading numerous reviews and looking into a number of accomodations that run less than 200.00/night I finally settled on the Blue Parrot 5th Ave. OVERALL A VERY PLEASANT PROPERTY FOR 140.00 NT + TAXES. I do want to correct an previous posting. THIS PROPERTY DOES NOT HAVE A POOL. The author of the previous posting must have been referring to the OLD Blue Parrot hotel that was on the beach and is now becoming condos. After reading other reviews, I learned to appreciate facts rather than subjective rants and raves.

Here are the facts:

Staff: courteous, and quick check-in; however, I could see how the check-in desk could get overwhelmed quickly. This is a small hotel, so hopefully there aren't a large number of people checking in and out at any given time. The night before checkout staff phoned our room to confirm our checkout and to see if we need transportation arranged to the airport.

Room: clean, nicer than our room at Luna Blue (slightly farther from the action), but probably not twice as nice as the price would indicate. No fridge (luna blue had a fridge), but there television with a couple of English channels provides some nice background noise when getting ready to go out or for some lazy time in the morning and night. Large shower, slightly low water pressure. Large comfy bed with clean linens and blankets. Nice toilet separate from shower. Large sink area for 'girl stuff'.

Facility: beautiful entry which serves as entry for on-site restaurant 'Playasia'. Dining and bar area are set atop lit pool area. Very Asian garden/pond theme with lots of green plant life as well. Many people would expect this place to be very loud due to its 5th Ave location, but it was in fact VERY QUIET ROOM, since the rooms do not face the street (that I could see). They are all garden view and the place is set-in from 5th Ave. VERY QUIET DURING OUR STAY, BUT RIGHT IN THE ACTION. The only noise noted was from the room next door one night around 9 or 10pm, just loud voices outside the room.

Access to Blue Parrot beach club is included. This was a nice beach area. Towels, chairs and umbrellas were all readily available and the beach was definitely less crowded than Mamitas Beach Club was (The club you can access when staying at Luna Blue) during the month of July. Actually, we weren't even asked if we were guests of the hotel while on the beach. Oh yeah, continental breakfast at the beach club is included: juice, coffee or tea + plate of fresh fruit + toast with butter and jelly. The fresh squeezed orange juice was great, just note that only the first glass is included; same for more fruit or toast. Very pleasant light breakfast served to you at your table.

Also, although I didn't use it on this trip, there is free wifi at the hotel.

Happy travels

The location is great, right on 5th Avenue. The courtyard is beautiful and we saw many tourists poking their heads in wishing that they stayed here. The rooms are refreshingly simple, nice high ceilings and a cool red-light in the shower. On the whole, we thought this hotel was a good place to stay.

However, they had high holiday rates for our last few days (about $200+ per night) which is really outrageous. For those prices, I'd rather be at the much cooler Basico or Deseo across the street.

The woman in the office in the morning was very helpful and very nice, but the man in the office in the afternoon seemed really bothered by simple questions. When I had a billing inquiry, he quipped about how a Belizean tourist ripped him off last week. Not really my problem and he never even answered my question. The woman in the morning straightened everything out beautifully.

The bed springs could be felt through the mattress, which made for some rotten sleep. Relatively quite for 5th Avenue in Playa, which tends to be noisy.

Continental Breakfast on the beach was included and very decent, but they couldn't provide us with any drinking water- unless we paid extra. When you're already paying the rates here, a little bit of water would go a long way to making the stay better.

Overall, if you can forget about the price, it's OK to stay here.

Stayed 5 days at the Blue Parrot - location is great, beach, sun, swimming pools, staff is extraordinary, can walk everywhere from 5th Avenue to Walmart. The rooms are clean, comfortable, modern... you feel you are located in "real Mexico" but yet with the comforts of home. The staff was always smiling, did whatever they could to make you feel welcome and make your stay a great one. Do not recommend the rooms right off the street at the BP Hotel ... the noise travels down the street from the late night Clubs. Location is ideal! Good value for the money.

  • Liked — location and staff
  • Disliked — We changed rooms after the lst night and all was well.
  • Tips/Secrets — avoid the end room at the BP Hotel. Too small, crowded, street noise, and poor air circulation
