This is a friendly and charming little place. It has not got loads of amenities, but it´s super clean, very comfortable and close to the action (but not so close that you can hear the action all night) and a pretty nice place to stay. It does have a minibar and an in-room safe. The showers are good (which is a bonus in Mexico). They serve a light continental breakfast on the patio. Marco on reception is a lovely guy and very helpful.

Although there is no pool, it´s close enough to the beach and to beach clubs for this not to matter too much. We got a really good rate through their website which made it ok value for money.

Wonderful Stay at the Aqualuna!

We stayed at the Aqualuna Hotel from December 26, 2007 through December 31, 2007. Despite some initial misgivings about the hotel due to a booking error on the part of the hotel staff, we really liked the Aqualuna from the moment of our arrival. The staff were friendly and very accommodating. Our room was very clean, comfortable and had many amenities that one would find in a much more expensive hotel (stocked mini-fridge, room safe, flat panel TV, huge walk-in shower). The lush tropical vegetation in the courtyard was absolutely beautiful and created a tranquil atmosphere for our daily continental breakfast or just for relaxing. The location cannot be beat, as the Aqualuna is just one block from busy 5th Ave. and 3 blocks from the beach. This is a great small hotel at a great value!

We just returned from celebrating our wedding anniversary in Playa del Carmen!
Being veteran visitors of the area (have visited there for 5 years in a row), this hotel is one of Playa's best kept secrets! The staff at the front desk are amazing and wonderful people! Our room was clean, quiet, and promptly made up every morning. The included breakfast of croissants, toast, cereal, etc was good, but the coffee needs to be stronger. We are accustomed to the magnificent Mexican coffee (NO, don't go to Starbucks on the Avenida!), that Playa has to offer, and this is the only area where the Aqualuna fell a little short.

Would recommend this boutique hotel to travelers who revel in the non-American hotel chain experience. If you're looking for a more "americanized, fast-food type of resort" this is NOT your place.

We had a fantastic stay at Aqualuna. The friendly staff gave us excellent service. We stayed at two designer hotels on 5th Avenue but with all the noise until 3am, we decided to book in at Aqualuna for the remainder of our stay. They upgraded our room and gave us a discount. The building style is tastefully Mexican with a beautiful tropical garden. And its just a short walk to the beach.

Good size comfortable room with cold A/C (w/ remote). Hotel is new so everything is clean. Inside garden area is quaint with some really outstanding large specimens. Location is close to the better restaurants & bars on 5th Ave and side streets. 10-15 minute walk to Mamitas. Staff is friendly and attentive. Downside: Little closet space and no drawers so you pretty much have to leave your clothes in the suitcase. We pack light so not a big deal. This property is on west side of 10th Ave, which is one of the busiest N-S streets in Playa. A/C drowns out the street noise, but crossing over to east toward the beach/ 5th Ave etc. can be a challenge. At times there was a police officer stopping traffic to let peds cross.
