Service – The service is exceptional almost intuitive. Graceful at meals, fun for the entertainment, and room cleaners were perfect and unobtrusive. Everyone smiles, says hello and it is unforced – they want you to enjoy your vacation. Front desk was always helpful. There is a pharmacy and store outside & down the ramp. Saves a trip into town for hats, sunscreen, and medicines.
Families – Children’s club is good for 5 and under – very high level of care. Older kids find each other and play. There are so many activities for them to do and the ‘animacion’ team leads them in target practice, horseshoes, soccer, volleyball, darts… Our 8 year old checked in with us a few times each day. They even have evening performances and dancing for all children. This is not babysitting – I wouldn’t leave the premises, but was happy to do whatever anywhere on the grounds without worrying. (adults were mainly meeting new people and drinking margaritas by the pool/bar/swim up bar).
Food – The buffet is EXCELLENT. It has a huge variety for children and adults and is the pride of the place. Try the specialty places but they are not as good as the buffet (this seems opposite to most all-incs). Breakfast starts at 7 and has massive choice. Lunch is by the pool/beach and is very good. Dinner really shines from 6-10 pm.
Pool – A large clean pool good for laps, volleyball, and splashing. The ‘infinity’ pool (above the main pool) is good for splashing and sipping while chatting. Some people save the beach chairs and beds, the hotel encourages them not to, but doesn’t interfere.
Beach – Heaven. Hotel is on the beach. The beach is clean white sand. There are palm trees for shade, some hammocks, and motorized water sports (extra charge). Sea is warm and inviting!
Room – This was a little small for 2 adults with 2 children. The term Junior Suite is misleading. It is a nice hotel room – if you are thinking of coming here, do NOT think of a suite, just a room a beautifully kept room. The first room we were given had a view of some rooftop propane tanks – we moved without fuss. (some landscaping would have helped that although the rest of the place is very well landscaped). The second room had much better view. A/C worked but we didn’t need it in March. Fan was great. Safe and wi-fi helped.
Other guests – It is a little pricey for a college spring break place. There is a mixture of couples of all ages and those with children, extended families, and some college students. Very positive friendly atmosphere for pretty much anyone.
Location – 10 minutes walk from the 5th Ave strip along the beach. Also a $10 cab ride. Hotels as far as you can see up and down the beach.
Travelling to Playa Del Carmen/Cancun. The airport took 30 minutes from landing to being in a car. Awesome. I was expecting an old airport and tons of people hassling us – not at all. Airport just like any high quality regional airport in the US. We pre-booked a car and had no hassle. You could turn up and get a taxi easily and around $50 to Playa del Carmen. Nice to have someone to meet you if you do pre-book. Do not worry for a minute about being in a country with difficulty – Mayan areas are so far from that.
LOVE this hotel. Only criticism is that the rooms are described as junior suites. They are regular sized high quality rooms.
