“Honeymoon 2012”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

Went here in September 2012 for our honeymoon.Could not fault the hotel at all.Brilliant choice of restaurants.Few steps past the pool bar and the gorgeous beach is directly in front of you. Both pools are excellent, very clean and poolbar staff really happy and nothing too much trouble, especially suamy and pedro.Great location could go out on the night time into playa del carmen where there were plenty of shops bars and restaurants.we went to coco Bongos twice it was that good!!!excellent value for money especially if you go with the hotel reps, they look after you and your glass is never empty.Went on some good trips.Jeep safari was excellent and swimming with the dolphins was really good,

Loved this resort! I cannot say enough about how clean this place is! Everywhere you look someone is mopping something! Love that! The grounds of the resort are layed out in such a way that every room is close to both the pool & the beach. And we liked that the proximity of everything was so close as we didn't have to worry about keeping track of our preteen kids who liked to be on their own at times. The beach was stunning! White, silky sand clear water that you could walk out quite far into and the beach just went on for miles in either direction. Hotel provides beach drink service which was very nice and prompt. Some local vendors on the beach but none hassled us and were very polite if we said we were uninterested. The recreation staff always had some activity going on for people who like to move around, dancing, volleyball, games, etc... The food was excellent! First carribean vacation where there was actually more lobster and seafood than we could eat! 3 out of the 7 nights had all you could eat lobster tails t the buffet! The restaurants were all good and although you had to make reservations, you did not have to pay extra. The buffet was incredible and varied and was just as fine dining as the restaurants! We are coffee lovers and were a tad disappointed that the only really good coffee could be found in the bar of the hotel lobby which wasn't open at the crack of dawn, but we discovered that a 2 minute walk outside the resort there was a Starbucks!! This is one resort where you do not have to worry about leaving the grounds as it is in a sort of gated resort comunity and felt incredibly safe. My husband & I would jog to the Starbucks 2 min away every morning and be back with our coffees before the kids woke up. The staff were friendly and incredibly hard working!! If you asked for something you did not have to wait and they are always smiling! Did I mention how clean it was?! The room was cleaned 2-3 times a day! There is a shopping plaza about a 15 min walk from the resort, and a Crossfit gym! We did not do any excursions as we were only there for 1 week and really wanted to relax. My husband and children did go parasailing and LOVED it! We really felt as though we got our moneys worth on this trip.We were sad to leave and hope to go back.

Room Tip: The way that the property is layed out I don't think there is a bad room location

This is a very nice place if you have the right expectations in mind.

If your AC does not work do not expect it to start working on it's own or the Maintenance crew to figure out the mystery either. After 4 days of calling and several trips by the maintenance crew to your room, the final explanation we got from the crew was "The AC is fine, your room is just too big".
If you want the front desk to change your room to one that has working AC, well good luck. Mr Aaron, the Front desk supervisor will be too busy to talk to you and the rest of the staff is hopeless without his approval.
A special note to Mr. Aaron. Please enjoy your job and make no plans to expand your career to an American resort. Your attitude and level of service would not land you a job in Burger King. This is just my opinion after 15 years in the hospitality industry.
Food is good but the reservation system for dinner is a joke and very different than the resorts we are used to. Here you must make a reservation for either 6:30 or 8:45. You must make the reservation day of or one day in advance at noon. I love restrictions while I am on vacation (sarcasm). I much prefer the service of some of the areas other resorts that simply allow me to show up to dinner and eat. WOW that sounds like a fantastic idea.
The rooms are average in comparison to the competition.
Over-all - it is a nice place and they to a good job for a massive resort - I guess I am just a bit picky and prefer more personalized service. And at the price point of this resort, you have plenty of options of other resorts that will give you just that - Better Food, Better Rooms, Better Service.

Mr. Aaron, if I return (and that is a big if), I hope you will have read my review by then and perhaps had a change of heart. Better yet, I will return if you aren't there - just give me a heads up to the new resort that was duped into hiring you so I don't go there.

BTW - if I am a bit disappointed with Mr. Aarron - it is only because we were there for a wedding and if they do not treat a wedding group that well, I can only imagine how they would treat a standard guest.

We just returned from a trip to the Riu Palace Riviera Maya, MX. It was absolutely fantastic! it was a very beautiful, clean resort. When we checked in we asked if a room upgrade was available. We had to wait a night, but we got closer to the beach with the new room. The first room was ok, but the location of the 2nd room was much better! The food selections were great! Always something different. We ate at the Japanese restaurant and the Kristal restaurant. I'm not such a fan of Japanese food, but those we were with loved it! The Kristal is fantastic! Everything there was great! The beach was within walking distance to Playa Del Carmen. There were a lot of people there but it didn't seem crowded at all. If you go, make sure you see Xavier from Olympus Tours in the lobby to take care of all your excursion and shuttle needs. He was great! Look for the guy in the bright orange shirt & navy blue pants. He helped us in so many ways! Make sure you tip the workers. They work so hard in presenting their resort! Everyone was so kind, it made me sad that we have to go to Mexico to get good service!

Room Tip: Try for a supreme junior suite over the junior suite. The location of the room will be closer to the...

We booked our vacation with sunwing vacations before I read the reviews and I was expecting the worst from them when we headed to the airport. We had no problems with Sunwing whatsoever. Our outgoing flight was only 1/2 hr late (not a big deal) and yes, the plane was tight but it is a charter and we expected that. Our Sunwing representative was at the resort every day during the hours he said he would be (Frederick was awesome) and was disappointed that other Sunwing customers did not utilize his services. He set us up on a couple of great excursions with no trouble. Leaving the resort, the bus was, again, 1/2 hour late, and again, not a big deal but we arrived at the airport in plenty of time for our flight. Sorry to hear that other people had a bad experience with Sunwing but ours was good. No different that when we had flown with any other vacation company.

The resort was nice, it was all close to the beach and pool and the wait staff was attentive. A couple of good tips left on our pillow ensured that we always had fresh towels and a clean room. The food was good, typical of the all-inclusive hotels and the New Years Eve buffet was great. Nice to have a restaurant near the pool. Being able to walk to town in 10-15 minutes was a perk and we went to Playa del Carmen a few times to look around or to try a restaurant. Plenty of ways to spend your money there!

All in all, it was a good family vacation. I would return to Playa Del Carment and to the Riu again.

We have been to the RPRM twice in the last 2 years (January 2011, and again in February 2012). Unless something drastically changes, we will be going back many more times.

We cannot say anything but good things about this resort: the architecture and accommodations, the manicured grounds, the beach!!, the sun & relaxation, the food and beverages, and ... I could go on and on. But, above all, it is the dear people that are part of this resort's staff that really make this resort so special. I think Americans would do well to take some lessons in happiness and work ethic from many of the people that we encounter in the Playa area.

We have eaten at all the specialty restaurants, and we enjoyed them all. On our first trip (6 days), we ate at each of them, and waited in line for the reservations, etc. On our second trip (8 days), we decided that a more relaxed approach to dinner meal times was better, although we did eat at the Krystal and Mexican specialties. The dinner buffet has a wonderful variety, and although we could never try everything available, we enjoyed nearly everything that we tried.

Nightly entertainment is the only part of the regular life at the resort that we cannot comment on, except for the Mariachi band! We went to their shows each time we’ve been to the resort, and they are incredible! Make sure to attend. Other than this, we usually walk in the evening, and settle in to our room early

The staff treated us as if we were at a palace. They are such friendly, hard-working individuals, and they are truly enjoyable if you take an interest in them. We asked questions of them, thanked them for their hospitality, and tipped them regularly (they deserve every dollar!). If you take the time to show genuine interest in the staff, it will enrich your life and vacation experience.

I’d like to give thanks to some of the staff that really made our last vacation so special (but there are many more): Nicodemo, our breakfast waiter; Juan, the breakfast Matre D’/manager, Minerva, our lunch waitress; Jose and his assistant Carlos, our dinner servers/waiters (these guys made us feel so special!). Papito, the saleperson at the palace jewelry store. All of the housekeepers that attended to our room (leaving a note of thanks, some chocolate, and a tip is so appreciated and deserved).

This resort has a special place in our hearts. We consider these fine people our friends, even after being there just 2 separate weeks. I am shocked by any negative reviews. I know that some are probably legit. However, I would bet that many of them are from people that likely just have a negative attitude about everything in life, which is indeed, quite sad.

Room Tip: When booking your stay, spend the extra couple hundred $$ (for the week) and pick a room with the co...

I have read some of the last reviews and unless something has drastically changed which i doubt. We are about to go for our 7th visit on the 9th march, since 2008 to travel 10 hours we must love the place. The staff are so friendly the beach is fantastic. Any kind of food you want is there and fantastic. What more can you ask for.
