“Lovely setting and good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2014

My wife and I have stayed at seven different hotels in this part of Mexico and we felt that the Fairmont is probably the best "value for money" we have seen so far. Though the resort is vast the staff do a remarkably good job in providing a very personalised service.

We had excellent accommodation on a lagoon, and it was nice to sit on the deck and look at the fish and the turtles and the very attractive bird life. On the other hand some rooms were set in rather dark, jungly plantings and its probably worth paying a little bit extra and stressing that you want a a lagoon view room, preferably on the upper floor.

All the restaurants provided a very reasonable standard of food at sensible prices and there's a nice terrace off the main reception area where you can have a drink while looking out over the tropical gardens. Another plus is the freedom of movement in the Mayakoba estate so that you can eat if you choose at the Banyan Tree or the Rosewood. The Saffron restaurant at the Banyan Tree makes an exotic, and absolutely romantic, change of venue.

As a couple, we will certainly go back - but not during a school holiday and we were also concerned that conference parties, or large wedding groups, might also swamp individual guests. If this worries you - as it does us - its perhaps worth checking before making a reservation.

Just returned from Fairmont Mayakoba in celebration of our 25th anniversary. Not sure how we picked this property but so glad we did! Property was fabulous, golf sourse was beautiful, weather was great, everyone was so nice and on-site concierge, Mariana was special. My wife and I are fortunate to have been to many first-class resorts and this tops our list. Will definitely return as soon as we can. Thank you again Mariana.

We were here for a few days in late January and stayed in a beach area casista room. We loved the property (with its extensive grounds for walking and biking - which I was looking for). The beach area was nice to have for proximity to the water and Las Brias (I thought the best restaurant) but really, every single place we saw was nice and we liked the golf cart type transportation so on our next trip, we wont bother paying extra for that. The main pool is very interesting with cut outs and smaller, more private areas and it didnt seem crowded, as a result.

Overall, I thought the food was very good - some things were wonderful, some only ok, but the service was great every single time. You could tell that the staff here were interested in their guests being happy and it showed. We took the boat tour, and thought it was worthwhile to do.
As others have mentioned, it is a very unique design/concept - and we really liked the spaciousness and different envts (mangrove, pool, beach).

We had a great experience - will definitely go back.

Room Tip: All rooms looked like they would be in good areas - as a result, I wouldn't pay to upgrade for l...

Joined my friend and her sister for a birthday celebration this past weekend. As mentioned in many of the reviews, the service at the Fairmont is outstanding. From the moment we stepped out of the van, we knew that our vacation had begun in earnest. The staff really bends over backwards to accommodate your every need.

We upgraded to rooms overlooking the canal. I could have spent all day on the porch watching the many birds as they swooped by on their way down the canal. Saw a friendly coati on the path to my room and later an iguana. Wildlife abounds.

The flora and fauna, the tropical setting, and the meandering paths all provide for not only incredible beauty, but privacy and quiet. For me, that is what this type of vacation is all about.

Stayed here for second time on way to a flyfishing trip in the sian kan biosphere. It was better than lady time....great Sevices ...all stat seem to have magically learned your name and treat you like royalty. Booked on a promotion which they did not have on record when we checked in...they agreed to honor the promotion based on my word that was how I booked despite me not having any documentation. Restaurant was authentic good Mexican food....the morning buffet best I've seen

Jan 25- Feb 1

This was our fourth vacation to the Mayan and the PDC area. The previous being true AI's.The Mayakoba is not a true AI but does offer that option and it is worth every extra penny !

We were attending a large conference , however it never felt like we "took"over the property .

Staff- professional in all areas .We were greeted by our last names at all times and promptly served always with "It is my pleasure" They could not do enough never a smile out of place. It seemed like they all genuinely enjoy/love their jobs .

Willow Stream Spa -I did not use this facility but did purchase some beach wear . They again addressed you by your name and had the door open before you entered the spa.

Bars & Dining -Food never had a bad meal- for lunch I loved the cerviche ,fish tacos ask for it to be grilled not battered .Many other options with service at the pool and beach.
We dined at Las Brisas for a few lunches over looking the ocean. We did not make it to Las Brisas for dinner so can not comment

.Breakfast was served at La Laguna and I chose the buffet each morning ample options there. Eggs freshly prepared as you like.

My favourite dinner was at El Peurto which over looks the lagoon. We dined outside and ordered the seafood plate as our appie and the Caribbean lobster as our main both delicious .

Bar service prompt quick efficient. Watched the bartender at La Laguna on a busy night and he did not miss a beat could not believe the speed and accuracy as he was preparing drinks !

My son had requested a bottle of tequila and we got a quick and informative lesson on our first night from the bartender so when purchasing we knew what to buy.

Property-Lush and quick to navigate with the help of the golf carts that were always a minute away. Lots of bird watching here !

Rooms- At first we had inquired to upgrade . The beach villas were booked but looked amazing although the furthest from the hub of the resort. We were offered the next upgrade which was a lagoon/mangrove room. We decided to stay with the signature casita. Our room was in 122 over looking the lagoon second floor. Happy with our choice ,close to the main lobby ,spa, pools, La Laguna rest.It was large enough. Bathroom with separate WC, large bath, rain shower head in shower with bench. Wall to wall window with privacy wall outside.

So in closing- Fairmont Mayakoba thank you so much your staff should be congratulated on a job well done and we will highly recommend your property !

Room Tip: 122 close to the everything but the beach but golf carts are quick and efficient.
