“Avoid rooms facing the street”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

Stayed for 5 nights. The most important thing is to avoid rooms facing the street because of the noise.
Pros: Well located in the center of town. Inside rooms are quiet. Spacious rooms and bathroom.
Cons: Safe too small for laptop. Extra charge for WiFi.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms facing the street because of the noise

Hi we have several rooms that face 16 st. as well as the courtyard. 16 st is a quiet street with mostly foot traffic, there is only one restaurant on this street. generally closes before midnight. During this particular guests stay 2 of the nights there were private parties where the restaurant was open until 2 am. This will not happen again. However in Playa as in all vacation destinations, during high season there is always a chance for extra noise. In any case we are happy to accommodate all guest requests regarding room changes etc . wifi is fee in the lobby and as most hotels we charge for wifi in the rooms. We do have laptop safes in some rooms, however nobody except our maids enter the rooms and our maids and staff are highly trained to secure and protect all guests personal items

I am also happy tp see that this guest still gave us a very good ranking for the hotel and their stay.

This little boutique hotel is comprised of quiet, well-appointed condos in a great location. The outdoor relaxation courtyard is centered in the hotel. Fireplace, candles and comfy furniture make this a cozy place to read and greet friends. It is just one block from the beach and just around the corner from all the restaurants, clubs and markets of 5th Avenue. The hotel has a rooftop area with hot tub, bar-b-que and lounge chairs. I never saw anyone else use this facility during my 4 night stay. The front office personnel were friendly and most helpful in securing transportation to the Tulum ruins and recommending great places to dine. The pool at the hotel is very small (a dipping pool rather than swimming), so be aware. The only concern was the lack of water pressure in the shower. I filled a large water bottle to rinse my hair when taking a shower, as I could not get enough water to do a decent job. The bathrooms are beautifully decorated and new; too bad the pressure is so lousy.

Room Tip: We enjoyed a 2nd floor room on the south side of the hotel..., very quiet!

Hi thanks for the great review... water pressure fluctuates in general in playa del carmen especially when the hotels are full and guests are back showering in their rooms, we have installed pumps as well to help with extra pressure. We can also adjust the pressure if needed but we must be made aware of the situation or any situation so we can attend to it.

Absolutely wonderful!! We just got back and wish we didn't have to leave. Only a block from the beach and a few steps from 5th Avenue. Staff is accommodating, rooms are modern, balcony overlooking beautiful courtyard and a rooftop terrace with bbq and sauna. Don't believe any of the negative comments because they are not true. We always had hot water, clean linen and towels every day and we never had a problem with not being able to get in when coming in at wee hours in the morning. Acanto is our home away from home in PDC. Thanks Matthew and staff you guys helped make our honeymoon a great one! And the bottle of wine was a nice touch to start our stay. Love it, love it, love it.

I travelled with my mom to Playa del Carmen in October over my birthday. I booked a stay at Acanto through Groupon and got a really great deal for a basic room. Every room has a balcony overlooking the beautiful courtyard with a pool, plenty of seating/lounging, and is candlelit at night. There are other options for staying in a suite, that includes a living room area, kitchen, and street facing balcony. All in all, since there were only 2 of us, and we weren't spending all our time in the room, it didn't really matter not having a suite. Our room was plenty big for 2, clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. We had such a great time in Playa and at Acanto! The hotel is so pretty, and there is a great view of the ocean from the roof, along with jacuzzis. The hotel is perfectly located with 5th Avenue restaurants and shopping less than a block away, and the beach just a short walk of about one block away. The hotel provided coupon vouchers for beach chair use at Wicky's beach club a few blocks down the beach, which was very nice. The customer service was awesome too! Antonio provided private transportation from Cancun airport. He was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area; giving us lots of good ideas for activities. Karen, at the front desk, was such a great help to me in planning things prior to the trip, and she continued to be a great help all during the stay, directing us to places to eat, things to do, and providing coupons. She was so nice and friendly, she even suprised me with a little birthday cake! We had the opportunity to meet the owner, Matt, during our stay, who was also very nice. My mom and I were so sad to leave!...We had to leave not only a great location, great hotel, but great people too. I would definitely recommend Acanto to anyone, and am hoping to get back down there soon!

We had a wonderful stay at this little condo in early October. It is close to the beach and any and everything you want to do in Playa Del Carmen but it is extremely quaint and quiet inside the gates of the condo! We were able to park our rented car in the secured are under the condos. We loved the refreshing pool to just cool off in the afternoon or evening. We stayed in the unit that is considered a hotel room. It was nice and clean but we did miss having a small fridge, microwave and coffee maker. If they could add that to the room, it would be awesome but you can walk right out of the condo for anything to eat. I would never hesitate to go back and might opt for the 1 bedroom next time!

My wife Lisa and I stayed at Acanto in mid-October for our anniversary. First let me start by saying that I rarely write reviews either good or bad because I travel regularly and simply don't have the time. However, I felt compelled to spread the word about Acanto because they made our trip spectacular and one we will never forget. The rates were reasonable, rooms clean, and tasteful facilities. What sets Acanto apart though, is the best and most personable service either of us have ever experienced, hands down and something I don't say lightly.

The service though. Wow. Karen at the front desk greeted us with a smile every day. She directed us to several "hidden" spots from where to get the best coffee to a cute little breakfast spot. Then on our anniversary, she helped rearrange our dinner reservations so that she could prepare a "surprise" which was a private, candlelit spot on the roof with spa, champagne and a view of the lights of Cozumel that we will never forget. Rafaela too, helped us select the perfect restaurant, was always there with a smile when we asked questions and made sure our room was everything we hoped for. Finally, Luis helped make sure our airport transport was there and waiting despite our own miscommunication and last minute request without making a reservation. I simply do not have the room to describe how well we were treated but when we had to leave, we felt as if we were saying goodbye to old friends. Simply amazing hospitality.

I agree completely with the other guests that the location is perfect: restaurants, shopping and nightlife less than a block away. The beach a short block away with vendors offering high quality 70 minute massages for $18 US (my wife and I got one every day), snorkeling and poolside restaurants and bars. Our room was very nice with a clean kitchennette and living space, spacious bedroom and comfortable, clean bed. Do yourself a favor and skip the all-inclusive. We left Acanto because the second half of our trip was at a very nice all-inclusive. It was nice too but we just couldn't stop talking about how much we wish we would have stayed at Acanto the whole time. We are already planning our trip back.

I booked a four night stay at the Acanto from Amazonlocal.com. What a great deal! I would recommend staying at one of the suites or penthouses that has a full living room and kitchen. We didn't do this and wished we had. The inside of the hotel is beautifully decorated with candles. There is a small swimming pool on the first floor and a jacuzzi on the 4th floor. The view of the ocean from the 4th floor was amazing! We sat outside and watched the waves crash against the shoreline. Access to the beach is about a block or two away. The area seemed safe and is very close to restaurants/shops. The staff were very knowledgable about where things were in the area and provided us with maps as well as discount coupons to various restaurants. I would recommend this hotel of anybody who is looking for a place to stay in playa, near the beach. I would also recommend upgrading to one of the penthouse suites with the kitchen and living room. Do be prepared, the restaurant and spa are no longer part of the hotel. But with all of the coupons Rafaela gives you, you won't even notice!

Room Tip: Get a room with the kitchen/living room area.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Acanto Hotel is part of the Boutique Hotels of Mexico Brand and is Praised by the Media in Travel + Leisure Magazine says "Mexico's Riviera Maya is known for its sprawling resorts, but the new, 27-room Acanto Boutique Hotel proves that low-key simplicity also has a place on the Yucatan peninsula. This hacienda-style property, one block from both the beach and the area's pedestrian-filled Quinta Avenida, is set around a courtyard that's home to a swimming pool lined by chaise lounges and lanterns. Spanish accents influence the interiors, where curved hardwood windows frame views of the Caribbean Sea. A bonus for value seekers: lobby-side Wi-Fi is complimentary, as is access to the hotel's beach club, stocked with chilled towels and fruit for sun-seekers. And be sure to check in with the hotel concierge, who has close connections with nearby tour operators and language-immersion experts.Room to Book:The Penthouse units have sweeping views of the Caribbean from the private rooftop whirlpool.Insider Tip: Sign up for the hotel's cooking course or the mixology lesson, which focuses on Mezcal, the distilled liquor from Mexico's native agave.Frommer's Travel Guide says"In my view, this property is (dare I say it) the most romantic in Playa. There is intimacy and flair and even a sense of isolation. Seven stylish suites endowed with color and texture encircle a pool and softly lit courtyard. Figures of Buddha and Asian decoration add an exotic feel and draw a division between this small enclave and the world outside the hotel's door. The suites come with kitchens so you can, should you choose, limit your comings and goings. The rooms are large and comfortable and come with a queen or king bed. The location is great, just around the corner from Quinta Avenida, on a secluded street"About UsThe hotel is located on a pedestrian only street surrounded by beautiful restaurants offering live music and great food and drinks.Hidden behind Hacienda style gates and built around a lush tropical courtyard with swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sun decks and chaise lounges for sunbathing, we offer a Romantic yet family friendly atmosphere where our experienced staff will cater to your every need. All guests will enjoy our swimming pool and rooftop Jacuzzi & BBQ with the most amazing ocean views in Playa del Carmen.
