My husband and I spent 5 nights in Playa del Carmen at the Acanto. We really enjoyed our time there. First of all, the location could not have been better. It is really close to all the action of 5th avenue, yet the hotel is very peaceful. The beach is about 3 minutes away by foot. The pool area is small but very pretty. Our unit also had a lovely little patio with table and chairs, facing the pool area. My husband and I spent a lot of time on our patio each evening. We found the Acanto to be very quiet and restful.

Our room, really a small condo, was roomy and attractive. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful.

The Acanto has a few glitches, however, First of all, our AC unit seemed to be having some major problems. Although it cooled the room, it kept sounding like it was about to break down. It became so noisy, we had to sleep with it turned off. Also, our kitchen light seemed to have some electrical problems, and only worked about 50% of the time. Finally, our room needed better lighting. When it was night or the front curtains were closed, the room seemed kind of dreary.

All in all, we liked our experience at the Acanto and would probably stay there again.

“We had the best time”

Acanto Boutique Hotel & Suites

The hotel is the perfect combination of comfort and style the rooms are big and well decorated. We meet another couple that was staying there and we all had dinner and went to the beach which is also fabulous. If you want to have a very romantic getaway that s not precocious and reasonable priced this is the place. Oh yah its two blocks from the beach and in the middle 5th ave. which is the greatest shopping, nightlife, and fun times. Hola

My wife and I stayed at the Acanto from Feb. 29 thru March 8, 2008. We were originally looking to book a suite at the hotel, but Edgar informed us of a wedding party that had most of the rooms and suggested that we stay at one of their off-site apartments. This ended up being perfect for us!
Edgar arranged for a van to pick us up at the airport in Cancun, which was a relief. If you've ever dealt with the taxi situation at that airport, you know what I mean. The driver was waiting with a sign for us , and we soon departed for Playa. When we arrived, we were upgraded from the 2 bedroom apartment to a 3 bedroom penthouse. This was a wonderful surprise!
For those of you who are not familiar with Playa, Fifth Avenue is the place to be in the Downtown area. The apartments are 100 yards north of Fifth Avenue on 42nd Street. You are in a residential area, but it is very peaceful and quiet at night compared to the noise further down Fifth Avenue. It is a 15 minute walk to the Acanto Hotel, but only about 3 blocks from the start of the action on Fifth Avenue. From the apartment. my wife and I found this to be very convenient to get around.
The apartment itself was very nicely decorated and the rooftop pool was great for daily sunbathing and cooling off in the water. This is a private area that is only accessable from your penthouse, and became a nice little haven for us at the end of each busy day.
Edgar and Malena were very attentive to our needs and did a wonderful job for us. We highly recommend this penthouse apartment for anyone looking for a llttle R&R with a bit of privacy.

“Very Nice Place to Stay”

Acanto Boutique Hotel & Suites

Mar 9, 2008

We were in Playa del Carmen for a wedding. This is a small hotel that was perfect for our wedding party to stay at. We had the rehearsal dinner in the tropical courtyard by the pool. It was perfect for a party of about 50 people. The staff was excellent and very accomodating to everyone's needs. The Asian stye decor in the hotel and courtyard was beautiful and tranquil. The suites were very clean and nicely decorated. They had full kitchens with everything one would need to live there. The towels and bath mat were a little old and thread bare, but were clean. Our only complaints would be that our particular room smelled moldy and that our hot water in the shower only lasted for about a minute before it turned cool. Our room was on the bottom floor. I know that the rooms upstairs did not smell moldy. I would definitely stay here again though.

We came to PDC for our own wedding and I first of all love Playa, it is amazing, fun, lively, friendly, and beautiful! I saw the Acanto on tripadvisor and after viewing their website I loved the look and just felt it would be a great place to house the immediate family and part of the bridal party. The remainder of our guests all stayed in other local boutique hotels. They were also gracious enough to refer us to a wedding planner in Playa (Leanne Rogers of Leanne Marie Weddings) who on a side note did an unbelievable job and if you need a planner you should use her. We stayed a total of 5 days at Acanto and had a blast!

Quickly about Playa- This is a wonderful town I am honestly considering buying property here it is so great! It is a nice cultural mix and they keep the charm of Mexico but still with a trendy vibe. 5th Ave is so much fun I wish I had more time there. I consider myself well travelled and between my husband and I we have been to Europe, Asia, Africa and other spots in the Caribbean but Playa has a certain vibe to it that is like no other! The actual location of the hotel is perfect, it is right off of 5th ave so you can get some refuge from all the action, but when you are ready for it just go down the corner. It is also right near a market, a very nice gym, great restaurant, etc.

The Acanto was exactly as pictured, it was intimate, charming, and beautifully decorated. The rooms are huge, the shower is spacious, and the kitchenettes are great to buy groceries. Also the living area was spacious so our friends could come over and hang out. The rooms were always very clean and grounds were well kept.

The staff at the Acanto was also top notch! We met both Edgar and Malena and both were extremely friendly and accommodating to any needs we had; as well as the other staff on site; they went above and beyond on our needs to even meet needs of guests that were not even staying there which was very helpful and since we tend to have a lot of questions and requests they were always very sincere and helpful. Additionally, the housekeeping staff did a wonderful job of keeping the rooms clean and were very friendly as well; particularly since we held our rehearsal dinner and get together here we basically turned the area into our own home and they did wonderful dealing with that. This was also a great place to have the rehearsal dinner as it was romantic and intimate (pictures are coming) and we even had people from outside wanting to wander in it was so much fun!

I have read a lot of the reviews over the past year and I have to say that I agree with everyone that recommends this place; To address some of those complaints I feel they are not accurate for example those that complained of construction noise they are exaggerating it. Yes there is some construction next door, it never woke me up and I was in the room next to it, it is not loud and honestly there is construction in a lot of Playa so if you are looking for a place that is much more secluded and quiet then look into Tulum; in terms of a musty odor I never noticed anything; lastly for those that complained of tepid or cold water we had one day of tepid water that was quickly resolved, we never had cold water, and my grandmother stayed at the Mosquito Beach Hotel which is one of the more expensive hotels and had cold water so I would not be concerned about that at all. I would book directly through the hotel if you can it is just easier.

If you are at all hesitant do not be, I would stay at the Acanto again in a heartbeat, as I said we had friends and family at a lot of surrounding hotels and I felt the Acanto just had a certain charm to it and the staff makes you feel like home!
