My wife and I stayed there starting on December 9th, 2012. Our room number is 376. The Royal is elegance, and more. The staff is splendid and can't do enough for you. I will quickly give a shout out to Mr. Jose Garcia, who works at Spice. Wow, and that is putting it mildly. What a wonderful man. We spent our last breakfast there before we HAD to leave. Somehow he knew we were leaving and sat us at a table that had rose petals scattered on it. And with every restaurant all they want to do is make us feel like a king and queen. And they certainly succeeded in doing that. The rooms are huge, and we had the normal type with no upgrade. Jaccuzzi was certainly put to good use that is in every room. The room was cleaned like there was no tomorrow. We ordered room service our first night there and the server was just wonderful. Wonderful, I can use that expression about this hotel over and over. The food was delicious. And anyone working behind the counters were so darn helpful. Let me tell you this one story. My wife who is a vegan could not find what she really wanted that one day for lunch. She is hard to please let me add when she is hungry, like this one day. So we got up to leave and go to the other buffet restaurant. Well the worked were so concerned to why we decided to leave they questioned us over and over to make sure it was nothing they did or what they could do. We explained why we were leaving and they offered to make my wife a special dish. Amazing service. Just amazing how much concerned they were. We told them we did not want to be trouble and thanked them and went to the other restaurant. I swear to you I think they called the other restaurant and told them to expect us. I say this because we were greeted like royalty beyond belief. Yep, the king and queen again. I just had a feeling they knew and wanted to make sure we were happy and that was their goal to make everyone happy.
OK, now I will just give some negatives. And this has nothing to do with the hotel. The trip from Cancun airport takes about one hour. So if you are coming from a distance like we were that extra hour after going through the customs at the airport and then your luggage you want to get to your hotel and then really start your vacation. The other negative... we ventured to Fifth Ave which is right near the hotel to do some shopping and looking for a club. Well you are attacked by shop keepers looking for your business. At first you just laugh it off but to experience this for every step you take can be annoying to say the least. And then you have the mothers who send their kids up to you begging for money which is disconcerning. It just was not a good experience for us. And some of the comments they made to us were nasty. And there were drug offers as well....saying they had Cheech and Chong or the goodies.
The entainment at the Royal was professional. And some of the acts were downright jaw dropping. And we left the day they were going to do a show called dacades, mixing music over the years. I am sorry I had to miss that one. So, since I am the King, I have spoken...THE ROYAL WAS FANTASTIC!!!
