“best Place to be”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

We made our first trip to Mexico this November and we couldn't find a better Place!
We know many 5 star resorts all over the World, but the Esencia is one of the best!
The Hotel esencia is the perfect hideaway to stay. Great Hotel, very clean, attentive Staff, many small things that counts. Great food and a perfect spa!
Thank you so much to all of you, for making our stay so unforgettable.
We can recommend you in every way and will come back to you for sure!

Room Tip: The rosa suite with the huge terrace and plounge pool is great

My girlfriend and I came to Esencia after having received two personal recommendations from friends.... Having read all of the reviews at Trip Advisor and hearing such glowing recommendations from friends, I had VERY high expectations. Esencia and its staff lived up to every one of those expectations.

We arrived mid-day and had several hours to kill before our scheduled couples massage. The Garden Suite was absolutely immaculate. The room was very spacious, clean, and the contemporary decor was simple and not overdone. We popped open the two beers from the minibar (stocked daily with complementary soda, juice, water, and beer) and began relaxing. In addition to the minibar beverages, the hotel gave us a complimentary bottle of red wine.
The room was cleaned daily and brought back to the same pristine state it was in when we arrived. The cleaning staff fished fallen leaves from the pool and resupplied the room with fresh towels and shampoos/conditioners.

There was so much jungle vegetation surrounding our back patio; the plunge pool was entirely and privately ours. Privacy was never once brought into question throughout the entire trip. We used the plunge pool every day so I can’t possibly see how we would return without having our own pool.

There were a few technical glitches. The heater for the pool was broken on our first day and we were disappointed that we couldn’t take advantage of it on our first night. However, the maintenance crew worked their magic in the background the next morning and repaired it. On the second day of our trip we came back to our room from the beach to find there was no water. The concierge told me it was a property wide issue, but was being worked on. 10 minutes later, we had running water again. Those were the only two problems we ran into and both were addressed quickly.

The room was equipped with speakers in the bedroom as well as in the bathroom, each having independent volume controls. It was nice to have the ability to turn on the bathroom speakers and leave the back door open so we could listen to music while relaxing in the pool. The hotel supplied an iPod with a variety of relaxing music, but you can easily plug in your own iPod.
Mosquitoes weren’t a problem until it rained. The hotel supplies each room with plenty of mosquito repellant spray and candles, but there was no keeping them away. I was pretty chewed up, but the mosquitos weren’t anything compared to the Southern US mosquitos we were accustomed to dealing with.

We went with Esencia’s “Splurge on the House” deal which was TOTALLY worth it for us. We had a couples massage, deep tissue massage, detoxing body wrap, and couples facial. The staff in the spa was super polite, very professional, and did an amazing job. While rather expensive, the visiting the spa at least ONCE on your trip should be mandatory.

The beach was a clean and beautiful as the Corona commercials. As other reviews have mentioned, the water is a bit rocky. You can’t wade more than 20-30’ before you hit rock, but this wasn’t an issue for us. We were there to relax. Not surf!

Sincere kudos go out to the hotel for proactively and laying out rose petals on our bed on the last night of our stay. They paid attention to us throughout the trip and took note that this was indeed a romantic getaway for us. It was such a nice surprise for us both!

I cannot say enough good things about Hotel Esencia. We will absolutely be going back!

One word I can describe my stay at Esencia: excellent. It has an excellent location, all quiet and very clean. Excellent view of the beach. The only thing I did not like so much is that the main pool is not in the same building and you have to walk .

Overall, I found all excellent and would go again without a second thought.

Wouldn't know where to start in describing this place. I felt ridiculously pampered, between the daily spa treatments, helpful staff, and incredible dining. It was one of those trips that sounded expensive when we were paying, and felt completely worth it while we were there. Would recommend it highly to couples or groups of friends who want something a little more sophisticated than your average Mexican beach getaway. (I don't think they have cheap tequila at this place.)

We got one of the specials that basically gave us the nightly room cost as a daily allowance, which really let us enjoy the meals and the spa treatments, definitely take advantage of one of the special offers if you can as you get so much more for your money.

Ten years ago, we spent our honeymoon in Tulum, Mexico. To celebrate our ten year anniversary, we decided to return. We upgraded our accomodations to Esencia - which turned out to be a perfect decision. For four days, we enjoyed the beautiful beach, spa, food, accomodations, and all the special little touches that make this hotel such a unique place to stay.

We have stayred at various resorts in Medico before, but Esencia is unique. The service is exceptional. The staff anticipates your every need. Each night, you realize the little things they've done to make your comfort a priority, e.g, the complimentary wine and beer, water and fruit juices, the fresh fruit served to your room, the daily pre-breakfast coffee and fresh pastries delivered to the room each morning and stored outside your door, waiting for you. At night, while you are out, not only do they have standard turn down service, they prepare outdoor smoke candles to keep away the mosquitos and light interior esential oils to fragrance the room. Though there was no wi-fi service to the room, our concierge had a router brought to the room so that we could use the internet there. I forgot my charger, and they happily let me borrow the one in the concierge office each morning.

We didn't venture far in the four days we stayed, but during that time we did enjoy the spa, where i had a lovely aromatherapy massage. We had a fantastic cooking lesson with Chef Bernardo and his sous chef Fermin. I enjoyed that a great deal, particularly as all the dishes we prepared were served to us later in the restaurant, pool side. He has wonderful recipes for ceviche, guacamole, and fresh fish wrapped in banana leaves with achiote. The food in the restaurant (both poolside and at Sal y Fuego) is exceptional. Don't miss the prailine hazelnut souffle.

The service on site at the pool and beach is really lovely. My husband and I have the priviledge of living in Bermuda, which is also a highly travelled beach destination. So, we're very familiar with the hospitality mentality. But Esencia staff show us how its done. Truely friendly, very helpful, always willing to accomodate.

I can't sy enough good things about this hotel, and I'm looking forward to our next trip back. Muchas gracias para todos.

Room Tip: We stayed in the garden room, without the plunge pool. With the rate special, we found it to be a g...

It´s not very easy to find the hotel entrance, specially compared to the other hotels in the region with signs by the road and huge front gates. There is just on sign by the road pointing towards a narrow path in the forest. Then you arrive at a log house double as reception. First surprise is that there is no parking lot or any sign of, but a courteous driver picks your car with all the luggage in. Taken by a golf cart you go through another narrow path until you reach the main house were they receive you calling by the name and with iced drinks. Rooms are spread through the forest as small villas. When we arrive to the room, many other surprises. Luggage was tucked into the closed and there was a private pool just outside the bathroom in a small area. At the entrance of the room was a small veranda for breakfast or afternoon tea.
Service was absolutely impeccable. We were called by the name all the time, never had to sign anything and the final bill was absolutely correct. It´s really a first class, small luxury hotel, that makes you feel at home.

Room Tip: Ask for a superior room at one of the small villas.

Although I tried hard, I really couldn't think of anything negative for this review. :) I'm just going to describe it.

I stayed for five nights in the La Torre room on top of the main house. It has 360 views: a stunning view of the sea and the two pools in front, and the jungle around. On the right there is a nice large terrace, and on the porch below the room a little outdoor sofa and table that are part of the Torre. Quiet and very private, indeed.

The best thing about the place is - like they tell you in the marketing material - you feel like you are a house guest of a wealthy friend. I speak Spanish so that may or may not have had an effect.

The room had an iPod filled with non-offensive chilled out, good music. I loved the rain shower with dual heads (one in front and one above). Plenty of bottled water all around the property, in the bathroom and minibar. The minibar is replenished daily and is complimentary (leave the containers in the room).

I didn't eat dinner at the restaurant, but the ceviches (their specialty) for lunch at the beach bar were very good. Every morning a fresh pot of coffee and bread was waiting for me at the outdoor table. Although the place is quite clean (on one day the floor wasn't wiped), as it is in the middle of what is nearly jungle, be careful not to leave any food lying around - it will be crawling with ants very quickly ;-)

Apparently the spa is awarded as *the* best spa in the Riviera Maya and my two massages there were amazing. Truly. There is no gym at the hotel, but they do daily yoga which I didn't attend.

I had a rental car, and would really recommend having one since the hotel is rather removed from anything, which is kind of the point. Still, it makes for a good base for exploration. The place is excellent for relaxation and disconnection, however the internet connection is also very good and the Wi-Fi hotspot is in the room on request.

The beach is pristine, and the service prompt and friendly. There are private huts along the beach, with 2 sun beds in each. Beaches don't get much better.

There's nothing fake or pretentious about the place, which really adds to it being extremely comfortable. Definitely among the best hotels I've stayed in. I will come back here.

Very highly recommended!

Room Tip: The best room in the hotel is the Torre.
