“The Grand Bliss is truly "blissful"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2014

We just returned from a wonderful three week stay at The Grand Bliss in the Riviera Maya. We are owners and this is our favourite location of all of them. Once again we have to give a big "thank you" to Aurea and her concierge team of Miguel, Gina, Rey, Noé and Alejandra. From the moment we arrived we felt like we were home. We also want to thank our shuttle drivers Pedro, Renaldo, Carlos and Alex for always smiling and taking us around the resort. Never had to wait for more than 2 minutes for the shuttle. Since our visit in July 2013 they have begun working on the Beach Club pool which Grand Bliss owners will be able to take advantage of. Also, four more Grand Bliss buildings are in the works. Lots of construction going on but it never bothered us. Lots of activities are planned by the Activity Staff for people of all ages. The Zumba class on the beach was my favourite. Can't say enough great things about The Grand Bliss. Can't wait to go back in July.

Two weeks at the Grand Bliss was everything we hoped it would be. A wonderfully spacious and comfortable two bedroom unit, superb staff, beautiful gardens and pools, wonderful food. We actually own at the GB in Nuevo Vallarta (and just upgraded to Grand Luxxe) which we adore, and we were just as happy on the Riviera Maya. Indeed, our five person group (including a 7 month old infant) could not have had a better vacation.

The grounds are very large and the GB is set away from the pools, which I understand can be a problem for people who want to walk out to the bools/ ocean. We knew this, however, and it was not a problem for us. There is a very prompt on call Grand Bliss exclusive shuttle, with kind attentive personal service. I cannot say enough good things about the shuttle drivers, the Grand Bliss concierges, the room service staff, the wait staff, the housekeeping staff-- indeed everyone was wonderful, and the level of service exemplary. We were a little nervous with the baby on his first trip away, but "baby Simon" was so lavished with smiles and attention wherever we went that we were all just relaxed and had a fabulous time.

The dipping pool on the balcony was a great feature with the baby, and I could see that it would be a wonderful thing with children. My husband and I on our own never use it, but the baby enjoyed it, and I would think with toddlers and younger children it could be incorporated into a great early morning and bedtime routine.

We did avail ourselves of the baby sitting service one evening so we could all enjoy a wonderful meal out, and recommend it highly.

I do have to say though that I like the Gong in NV better, though this one was very nice and we had a lovely dinner there.

We love the Grand Bliss even though we own the Grand Luxxe Spa Tower which is 3 levels above this. Why? It's smaller and the concierges get to know you and the shuttle drivers do, too. They all go out of their way for you and are super friendly and kind. Pedro is by far my favorite shuttle driver. I consider him a friend. We enjoy the Grand Bliss so much I wish that the higher end and more expensive properties we owned gave the same high end services. Very intimate and super satisfied.

I almost feel like I want to write 2 different reviews, though they would both be excellent. The Grand Bliss is one of 5 resorts at this property; From highest end hotel the properties are Grand Luxxe, Grand Bliss, Grand Mayan, The Bliss, and The Mayan Palace. The reason i bring this up is when you look at the reviews for any of those hotels they are , for the most part, talking about the same resort and only the accomodations are different.

First the hotel.

The Grand Bliss is a boutique hotel that is as clean as any I have ever been in. Unlike other timeshare trype hotels there is maid service twice a day, including turndown service.. The 2 bedroom suite we stayed in was beautiful and unlike other 2 beroom suites it didn't matter if you were in the master bedroom or the other bedroom as both had 2 person jacuzzi tubs and both were very spacious. It did take a while to get used to not having an ocean view but waking up to the birds in the trees around us was really nice and we enjoyed it. It would have been nice to have a larger refrigerator but realistically it stopped us from buying too much like we normally do which we then have to throw away when we leave. It would have been nice to have your own waher and dryer, but they are on every floor and the 2 times we used it there was no one else there. Even the front doors were beautiful.

As everyone has said it is a distance from other parts of the resort but even though there were probably thousands of people at the resort when we were there I always felt like it was our own botique resort which was really nice. The drivers of the shuttles were the nicest guys you could meet. The people at the desk of the Grand Bliss were so helpful.

The resort:

I can't say enough nice things about the resort. We were nervous that it was away from Cancun and Playa del Carmen and there would be nothing to do. The reality is there are 18 pools, 9 restaurants and 3 pool bars. During the day there are areas where you can be at an infiniti pool that overlooks the lagoon or ata secluded part of the walkway that has small pools by them. You can be where people are getting wild and crazy by the swim up bars or you can be by one of the small children pools, if that is what you need or you can be on the beach of the ocean where there is also a bar, a trampoloine and a rock climbing wall. They are currently addng salt water pools, and a "lazy river" . My wife and i talk about the fact you could stay in a different place each day and feel like you were in a different resort. it was amazing. Happy hour from 11-1 every day didn't hurt either :-). You can visit the crocodile or Flamingo sanctuaries or you can play golf on the Executive course. So many things to do.

During the evening you could go to Tramotto or Gong for a higher end dinner (Friday night Lobster was unbelievable). You could go to the wine bay from 6-8 for Happy hour (do you sense a theme here) and then eat at Havanna Moon down by the ocean or just get a pizza delivered to the room and hang by the plunge pool on your own balcony. Though we barely left the resort we were never bored and think we could have stayed to weeks and just had a great time.

I am not normally this positive about a resort and usually find things that could be better. In this case I would and have recommended this to my family and friends. This is a great place that truly caters to their guests.

Room Tip: Get an even numbered room on a higher floor if possible

We stayed in the studio unit. It is very spacious and quite comfortable. Not quite as nice as the Luxxe but better than most properties. There is a small dorm size refrigerator but nothing else. The grounds are fabulous and the walking paths are great for morning walks. The shuttle service is always ready to take you anywhere. The food at both Balche and Fridas was excellent... some of the best mole I've ever had! The van into town is very convenient. It drops you off at Mega and is a short walk to 5th Avenue.

During our stay in January we took the owners' update during which we upgrade to the Grand Bliss.
They are creating a beach club in front of the Del Lago restaurant. But the big news is that Cirque du Soleil will be opening in November at the new theatre which is being built across the highway from the entrance. When we were there the steel work was being completed. They are also going to build a central guest center in that location where all guests will be registered and then transported to their rooms. A similar system is up and running at Nuevo Vallarta. Future plans for the guest center include the addition of shops, restaurants and a nature park, all connected via canals.
