“Great little cocteleria off 5th Avenue”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

If you are looking for a low-key, unpretentious spot visited by locals & visitors alike, stop by El Navegante, a Veracruz-style seafood spot. The menu is limited but what they offer is very fresh, reasonably priced, and delicious!

The place is run by a young man from Veracruz and he seems to be a very hands-on owner, chatting with customers, preparing food, etc. The ceviche tostadas were light and refreshing, perfect for a hot day. We also tried the ceviche - different style than usually found in Playa del Carmen, but absolutely delicious. Everything is made to order, so it'll take a little time to get your order, but it's definitely worth the extra time.

“fabuloso”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

We just ate there based on TripAdvisor reviews. No exaggeration - the food was excellent, the prices below reasonable and the owner (?) very polite and friendly. A place that feeds your body and your soul. If you want fancy, this is not the place for you. It has a few tables, extremely clean, and opens on to the street.

“First rate ceviche, gotta try it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

Just ran across this place today looking for some of the other places listed in Tripadvisor. Lucky me. Great little place on a side street. 3, maybe 4, tables. Verracruz style seafood, ceviche, cocktails, empanadas, etc. Superb fish ceviche, prepared 3 ways, i had two. One with carrots, the other with cucmbers and pico de gallo. I ordered the medium and not the large. A whole 70 pesos, and filled me up. I ordered an empanada and had to take it back to the Grand Luxxe. Great young owner, chef. Simple, but super clean and tasteful timy eatery. Lots of shrimp, calamari, and other items in the cocktails and other items. Got to go back and try them all. Oh, and a nice refreshing horchata made on premise. Go check this guy out.
