“Mayan Treasures tour in Coba - Amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

Our family of 5 people toured toured today, Dec 30th, and we would like to give it the highest recommendation as Erin M did in her review above.
We also had Juan as our guide, and as a Mayan himself, he spoke with authority, knowledge and passion about his culture. The highlights were climbing the temple of the honeybee, tallest in the Yucatan apparently, swimming and jumping into the beautiful stalactite-decorated cenote and of course the Mayan village experience. The lunch buffet was adequate. The driver Benja was kind and provided good security for our belongings throughout the day. Overall, we are very happy with our tour and recommend it to everyone. Gracias!!

“Mayan Treasures Two Thumbs Up!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2012

We took the Mayan Treasures tour of Coba and a Mayan Village on December 21, 2012. We absolutely loved this tour! Juan was an amazing guide - he made the tour unforgettable. Juan was Mayan from Coba, so it felt like we were being given insider info of the region. It was clear that he cared deeply about the people and the history of the region and his passion made it a meaningful experience. Juan's friendliness and charisma made it feel like we were being given the tour by a good friend. It also helped that we were on the tour with a good group of people :)

Coba was beautiful and we actually enjoyed this tour more than Chichen Itza because it was much less commercial and more authentic (it had been restored and not rebuilt). Juan gave us so much interesting history about Coba and the region.

The second stop on our tour was lunch. The lunch was decent - nothing too special as it was just a buffet lunch. It was very crowded, which meant you had to fight the crowds for your food...

After lunch, we were off to a Cenote (a sink hole) for a swim. We went to another Cenote on our Chichen Itza tour (which was extremely commercial and located in a hotel) and we were expecting another overly developed Cenote. We were pleasantly surprised that this Cenote more remote and not in a hotel. We were very impressed by this little gem :) It was absolutely gorgeous.

The final stop was at a local Mayan village. This was by far the highlight of our experience. Because it was their new year, they welcomed us into their village for a ceremony. We were given a talisman to take part in the ceremony, which was blessed by a local shaman - it was so incredible to witness the ceremony. The site was full of adorable Mayan children who performed traditional dances and invited us into their celebration. Overall, this was an absolutely unforgettable experience!

We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone looking for some culture and history!
