I have an initial disclaimer about this place. If you stay here, just make sure to request to not be put on the ground floor, there is a HUGE difference. The initial room we got was on the ground floor and had a damp moldy smell, the safe was broken and the window so there were mosquitos flying all over the place. I'm no priss by all means but I wasn't about to be a mosquito buffet all night long. So I had complained enough that they moved us to the 3rd floor. MUCH, MUCH BETTER.
The fact that they accomodated my request I am giving them an above average rating. Mind you, I had to fight them a bit about it and they were hesitant but I let it be known when I am unsatisfied with my accomodations.
The place is centrally located on Calle 2 just half a block away from Avenida 5. In regards to Avenida 5, I actually prefer to stay on this closer half in comparison to the higher numbered Calles. My reason being that it's close to the bus depot, close to the Cozumel ferry, and close to the good taquerias and carts where Mexicans eat at, way cheaper and extremely tastier than the overpriced crap they feed tourists on Avenida 5.
The Area: good, safe, centrally located and there was no noise issue, slept like a baby.
The Room (Upstairs Only): The beds were kinda stiff but when you're tired, you'll sleep like a baby. The room was clean. The sheets were clean. The AC and fans worked. The TV works too but who watches TV when they're on vacation??? The Wi-fi is a bit shotty, it works best in the lobby or if you hang out by the courtyard balcony outside the room. Breakfast is not included. The bathrooms are outdated a bit for sure but they were clean and there was hot water. Toilet worked great. The safe was nice and secure.
The Service: I think they're service is a bit so-so. I'm glad that they switched my room but I'm not too happy that I had to fight the front desk girl a bit about it. She told me there were no other rooms available when I blantantly saw hoards of keys behind her. I mean c'mon, you don't own the hotel, you just work there, do I really have to b*tch and b*tch just so you can give me a room that doesn't smell like an old wet towel covered in mosquitos??? But I am happy at the fact that they reminded us of the time change the next day which would've caused us to miss our flight. So I guess it depends on which frontdesk girl you get. Would I stay there again? Probably.....but I would make sure that I wasn't on the ground floor.
