don't bother, unless you're looking to re-create your college dorm experience. we stayed (okay, were GOING to stay) here for a vacation in january and ended up bolting from the property as quickly as we could. the staff was rude, the room wasn't ready when it was supposed to be, the pool was so cloudy it looked like a group of frat boys just finished with it, and to top it off the room was utterly disgusting. door hardware falling off and loose, rusted fixtures in the bathroom, mold and mildew everywhere, peeling paint, and the most god awful bathroom sink area you've ever seen. I didn't even want to sit on the bed as I called booking.com to beg for forgiveness for making such a terrible hotel decision.

and if you booked with booking.com: be aware the person who can process those bookings (yes, there's apparently only one), is frequently out on break and the remaining front desk staff are neither qualified nor interested in helping you.

I like to think I have good judgment in hotels, but mine was severely clouded with this choice. don't believe the management photos, and don't let the price fool you. IT'S NOT WORTH IT. you just spent too much vacation time and money to get to playa del carmen to let this hotel happen to you.

The word "deceived" does not begin to describe this property. We looked at the photos of the property on the Maya Bric Hotel website and immediately booked four nights for our trip to Playa del Carmen in January 2013. Do yourself a favor and look at our photos, then compare them to the ones they have on their website.

We arrived to the hotel and were greeted by a front desk agent (gentleman) who did not once bother to raise his head and acknowledge our presence. Rather, with his head down, he told us the rooms were not ready and to come back. When we returned from lunch our room was still not ready, even though we were an hour beyond the posted check-in time. They told us the person who was in charge of the booking.com account had gone out on a walk, so they couldn’t help us. After waiting in a dirty lobby with trash and cigarette butts strewn about on the floor, we were finally given a room. Along the way to the room we observed exposed wires protruding from the walls and ceiling of the hotel, fire extinguishers clearly out of service, a murky, cloudy pool that I wouldn’t even dream of stepping in, dirty public restrooms with towels that had streaks of brown on them, peeling paint everywhere, damaged fixtures, hairballs rolling across the floor in public areas, and inoperative WiFi in public spaces, contrary to advertised (the front desk staff told us the WiFi hardly ever works).

When we got to the room it was worse. The door handle was falling off and far from safe or secure. We took a video, but we can’t upload it here. There were remnants of liquids that had dripped down and dried on the walls that had clearly not been washed or cleaned for weeks, if not months. The outlets and switches were caked with dirt and grime. The entire bathroom was covered in mold—the shower and by the toilet. Rust everywhere. We didn’t bother to look at the sheets and behind the beds as we knew there was no way we were staying the night.

This property is dirty, unsafe, and full of health hazards and code violations. Do yourself a favor and start your vacation out right: steer very, very clear of the Maya Bric Hotel in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

Room Tip: In order to get a good room, look look in a different hotel.

First off. Make sure you have your shots or penicillin on hand for this place.
Upon first entrance in the room we could see mold all around the windows and floor. The pillows had hair on them and the bedding was stained. The bed was the hardest I've ever slept on. Shower was either scalding hot or freezing cold. And then when ur done u get the privilege of drying off with an oversized hand towel that looks like its been around since the 60s
The location is great and the staff are friendly and nice, but unfortunately that doesn't make up for this very old rundown hotel. I would not stay here ever again. The rooms are worth 40$ tops.

My husband and I stayed at the hotel in December 2013 for a week. Rooms are clean, staff is very welcoming and accommodating. The Restaurant in the hotel is amazing, Chef and Waitress were very sweet, attentive and friendly. Location of the hotel is prime. Near hundreds of Restaurants in the middle of Quinta Avenida ( 5th Avenue) ADO bus station walking distance, plenty of ATM's and Banks around. Starbucks just a few steps away.. Like I said the staff is super super nice, can't say that enough. Plenty to do around walking distance from everything. It's like a little tropical forest in the middle of Playa del Carmen. The gardens are beautiful and well kept. I had to wake up early one day and the front desk guy was sweet enough to come all the way to our door knock and make sure we didn't miss our bus to Tulum. Every single staff member took their time to make us feel at home, and it felt real, not a fake customer service, it was heart warming treatment. Will come back again to this hotel, no question !!! We left very happy and well treated. Thanks to all the lovely staff. Cyril at the front desk and Maria Soledad at the restaurant.

My friend and I stayed at Maya Bric at the beginning of November 2013. Lovely, small, hotel located right on Fifth Avenue (La Quinta) between 8 y 10th. What sets this hotel apart from other smaller hotels in the area is the lovely courtyard, lots and lots of plants, trees, flowers, very pretty setting. when entering the archway off 5th (with a unique little wooden door in the later evening) it was an enchanting/Alice in Wonderland experience. We stayed in room 12 and had a wonderful view from above looking down over the courtyard area. There isn't a balcony connected to rooms, but a long walkway that runs parallel to the entire pool/courtyard to view all of the surroundings. Our room was more than adequate/beds comfortable, large shower/hot water/flat screen tv and sink area outside of the bathroom was helpful. We did request a fridge for our room with a minimal extra cost per day. We also enjoyed the breakfast every morning in the onsite restaurant/excellent scrambled eggs, bacon/ham/cheese with plenty of breads (very tasty bread) and juice/milk/coffee/rolls/cereal. Very nice service in the restaurant (which also serves lunch and dinner as well). Finally, we found the staff to be cordial and very prompt to attend to a few small requests that we had during our stay. Thanks so much to Ileana at the front desk also for your kindness, information, hospitality and smiles! This also for all the staff at HMB., everyone met our needs (from obtaining batteries for tv remote to help with our luggage off the street to our rooms). We had a wonderful stay and will plan to stay again on a future trip to Playa. Todo Excelente!

Room Tip: Recommend lower level floor if stairs are an issue. We stayed on second level and had no trouble wit...

The staff is very friendly and happy to help on any enquiry you have. The hotel have the basic things which is why is quite cheap, but everything is clean and tidy. The breakfast included is basic but very good. They can make you omelette with fried beans or quesadillas with Jam. The best Location and not noise at all (which it was one of my concerns at the begging because it is very close to the bars (2-3 blocks away). The pool is clean, you can drink by the pool. No dramas at all. Plus I have an special inquiry with my insurance company and the hotel staff was happy to help me writing down a letter for me in less than 24 hrs. I'm glad we stayed there.

Room Tip: I got one by the pool and it was nice, clean, quiter and no problem at all. You need to put your stu...

in general this place could be better is well located (it's good & worse in same breath depends on your character), clean, good AC.
i was in low season but high so i booked it for 50$ a night, when i got there they charge me high rate when they changed the currency from $ to pesos so for this price i expected more...
first to update guest you are re-decorating / buliding in the hotel so it means noises all day or if you didn't let them know make a discount for example...
second during my stay four times the hot water stopped working so inform your guest maybe? it's really annoying to get into shower & realize the water is cold again & again, twice i was waiting 3-4 hours for a shower after aday at the beach how "lovely" that was...
wifi is not working most of the time connect - disconnect - the worser i had during this trip.
the girl at the reception should learn a few things about costumer service & to smile from time to time maybe will help abit, the older guy was nicer.
more to improve is the lights in the room & the "included breakfast" is not a bonus to all guests
not recommend place for solo travelers no athmospere at all & for anyone else if they will improve the service & the place, it could be better.
