“Great service, friendly staff, and amazing location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2011

The Alhambra was one of the most relaxing hotels I have stayed in. The staff were very accommodating and the rooms were clean and bright. The food was great and there were many different items to choose from. I would recommend this hotel to any of my friends and family who wanted a relaxing and enjoyable vacation to beautiful Playa Del Carmen.

Beautiful Morrocon style hotel located on the beach in the center of town. Rooms are comfortable with balconies if requested. The view is slightly of the beach but there is no reason not to stay under a beach umbrella all day with the staff to serve you breakfast & lunch. Jose is a great waiter. The hotel and rooms are kept very clean. Substanital towels and small bars of soap were provided daily. Face cloths are provided if asked. Would recommend bringing shower scrunchie & soap. Food is good, especially the chilequiles & fresh squeeze OJ for the breakfast which is included and ceviche. The location is just a block away from the main shopping and eating district on 5th Ave. You can easily walk the whole length of 5th Ave. The staff is very friendly & helpful & can set up excursions. American Express is not accepted for the hotel. Book through the hotel website directly for discounts. Knowing a little Spanish is good. There is no TV, phone, etc. so relax and enjoy. Bring ear plugs if evening music bothers you. The ceiling fans are wonderful. Outside was cool so no need for airconditioner. I will come back in the Spring.

We stayed in the hotel for 4 nights. It is the perfect location. Close to everything. Tremendous beach. We would not go back there however. Yes, the rooms were clean. They were rather small, especially the bathroom. Our room had a balcony and bordered the street. It was extremely noisy. We found the staff to be not very accommodating. We asked for more towels ( you get two to a room) and they said no. We had two small bars of soap and they never replaced them. We finally complained again about the towels and they relented. The AC was noisy and if you did not have it on it was just too hot in the room. No TV, phone, radio, clock. Perfect for a newlywed. I would have enjoyed a tv just to get caught up on what was going on in the world. I guess you get what you pay for. Next time I will try a different hotel....maybe the the Illusion or the hotel right next to it.

We have stayed on many all inclusive resorts in Playa Del Carmen, and really they are all very nice. In fact I have also stayed at the Royal Hideaway and the Iberostar Quetzal this year. However, when we are not traveling to the area with a group of friends, we stay only at the Alhambra Hotel. For those who want to experience the town, the people, and the restaurants of Playa Del Carmen the Alhambra is for you. You are directly in the middle of the main Playa Del Carmen beach, just north of the ferry dock to Cozumel, and you are one block from the main street, 5th avenue. The rooms and hotel are spotless, and the staff, management, and beach staff are always excellent. I know this because this past week was about the 7th time we have stayed here.

The rooms are simple, no TV, Radio, or phones. Beds can get hard after several days, but most that I have slept on in Playa usually are set on a cement pedestal instead of a box spring and eventually get hard on the back.

The beach is perfect, the staff provides great service, and they have the best Margarita on the beach.

Great location in the middle of the restaurant and bar strip. This would have to be one of the cleanest hotels I have ever stayed in.

At the end of the day you get what you pay for however this place exceeded my expectations, mainly due to the cleanliness. This hotel was the cheapest in our travel book. The room we stayed in was small and didn't have a balcony, I think nearly every other room did though so we were unlucky. It was very hot when the airconditioning was off, Artic conditions when it was on.

Breakfast is included and it is standard fare. The only complaint I have about breakfast was the restaurant opened late so if you were going on a day trip or leaving on a morning flight you missed out and had to make your own arrangements.

Water fountains are located on each floor so you can top up your water bottle.

You'll get fit climbing the stairs as there isn't an elevator.

If you are on a tight budget I can certainly recommend this place. An internet cafe is also close by.

I hope this helps.

This hotel had the best location and best beach area in Playa. Great balconies and views. Great food served to you under the palapa or on your beach chair. Cleanest rooms, peaceful and relaxing atmoshere, yet just steps from all the action . The entire staff was awesome. Absolute Paradise.
