Great communication up front when booking a room here and the place is quaint and perfect for those who really are going to spend more time out than in. I am here right now writing this review on the complimentary WiFi which is a great feature for someone like me (I'm technically here for work on a photoshoot).

I got the cheapest small rooms which are quite small - just a single room - but it's just right for someone low maintenance like myself. There are other larger rooms which I haven't checked out but if you want to control your accomodations costs this place is just right. Close to everything and just a couple blocks from the beach and Mamita's/Kool so if you are looking for that kind of beach party during the day - you couldn't be much closer.

Just returned from a week at the Luna Blue. Loved Playa del Carmen which has a wonderful vibe. The hotel was fine and I stayed in the standard room which was a bit dark and then moved to a Superior Room on the last night as I was advised the Standard was booked. Staff were pleasant and the location is great for accessing the beach. It is basic, but after talking to a few people found out that there were cheaper accomodations to be had with views of the beach from their balconies. I would recommend you do some more research as you can probably pay the same price but get a few more amenities. Water cooler in room is a great idea and the room was clean. Tips: You can get coffee from corner store OXXO on 10th street which is open 24hrs. Get to Mamita's beach by aro9und 9:00am to get an umbrella, but don't wander off for too long. While I was there the guard also decided to remove towels/clothing left as placeholders by people who wanted to reserve their chairs but went off to breakfast and were gone too long.

We stayed at the Luna Blue Hotel and Garden for our most recent trip in January. We keep coming back because this hotel just keeps getting better and better. This is my first time to post a review on Tripadvisor, and I wish I had done so earlier. The staff has been with this hotel for some time, and are among the best we've ever encountered anywhere. We've always been treated with nothing but the utmost respect and our questions are always answered thoroughly and whatever our needs, they are met with promptness and a good natured response.

Each time we return we see improvements in the rooms with new A/C units, a fresh coat of paint, new furniture, fixtures, and this time with new "in room quotes" which, in our room at least, really captured our hearts. This was our 4th stay at the Luna Blue. We stayed in a Kitchen suite and enjoyed the fridge, the coffee maker, blender and stove daily. I think this category room is perhaps the best value in Playa Del Carmen.

Check-in was easy and Genaro and Jaime were incredibly courteous and helpful, as always. One of my favorite things on this trip, with our Kitchen room, was to make our morning pot(s) of coffee, decaf for me, and regular Chiapas for my husband, fix a bowl of yogurt/fruit/granola, pour a glass of fresh orange juice and complete a crossword puzzle or read a chapter or two. Either sitting at the lovely kitchen table in our room, or on the balcony listening to the sounds of the water fall and swaying palm fronds. Our balcony was always quiet, and the WiFi always welcome and working. At the end of our day, a nicely made margarita (or two) was a perfect cap to a great day (Which is ANY day at the Luna Blue in Playa!)

I must say I love the insulated feeling I get with the lushness of the garden and many trees. The hotel keeps them cut back and thick and never over-grown. The grounds are just perfect, colorful and I loved hearing the rustling of the tree limbs and leaves. My goodness, I miss it so much already.

Our bathroom had plenty of shelving, a large shower and good lighting, we had a nice sized dresser, 2 nightstands, and our in-room safe was digital so we could use our own code and not worry about losing a key!

I won't repeat all the lovely things others say about The Luna Blue except to say the location of the hotel in the north end is perfect for us, being north end people away from the hustle and bustle of the hotel properties nearer the action of the southern end of 5th Avenue. The beach passes work smoothly, the towels are always fresh and soft, our rooms are always superbly cleaned and ready for us on arrival/check-in, and after a day at the beach or out and about.

A couple of parting things of note. We appreciate the hotel's close relationship with Dr. Eduardo Rovirosa, who is the family physician of the owners as well. His office and clinic is actually located on 10th Avenue, directly behind the hotel. He is always available to the Luna Blue and it's guests and is a true gentleman and physician of note, and was of great service to us on one occasion. It's nice to know that if we should ever have need of him, he is always available to the hotel's guests. The second thing is the availability of water which is provided to guests in most room categories above a standard room, I believe. We buy a few of the larger water bottles and save them, filling them with water and placing them each evening in the refrigerator. The next day we have all the cold water we'll need for the day. Can't tell you how nice it is to just grab your water and go, or have water available for a pitcher of lemonade, or for the coffee maker!

I highly recommend the Luna Blue Hotel and Garden, its staff and owners for your consideration as a base for a wonderful Playa Del Carmen experience.

Luna Blue Hotel

What a gem. Luna Blue Hotel is in a great location in the “Italian” section of Playa, yet tucked away in its own little oasis of palm trees, rocks and a manmade waterfall. Really wonderful. I paid $78.40 USD per night. The owners live part time in San Francisco and part time in Playa and are great resources of what to do in and around Playa.

Don´t miss going to the Cacao Cafe on La Quinta (5th Ave. and Constituyentes). It´s fantastic. Do not leave Playa without trying their chocolate milk (fria) and the chocolate mouse.

Playa’s growing in leaps and bounds but it still has its charms, and is a great place to make daytrips from to see some ruins and do some snorkeling and diving, especially in the cenotes. (But to really see, taste and feel the Yucatan, head west to Merida.)

Stayed here for a couple of nights at the end of a wonderful tour of Mexico. Perfect way to end a hectic holiday. The room was spotless, with a hammock on the balcony and drinking water provided free of charge. Use of the beach club was very useful and the location was excellent. The only problem is that Playa del Carmen is rapidly being overtaken by tourists. Therefore, whilst the hotel was faultless, I wouldn't necessarily go back to the same resort again.
