We stayed at Playa Maya May 11 – 15. This is our 3rd stay in PDC in as many years. This was our first stay at Playa Maya.
We booked just about 2 months out, so we were only able to get the Deluxe Jacuzzi Garden Room. Our room had one king bed, a futon sofa, a flat-screen TV, a DVD-Player, a mini-refrigerator and a private patio with a Jacuzzi. The room was a very nice size, everything in perfect working order. A large walk-in shower (no tub) with good water pressure. As all beds tend to be in Mexico, ours was quite hard. Our housekeeper cleaned our room every day and did a very fine job! Our room was just fine, but I would much prefer an Ocean View on future trips.
The location of Playa Maya is awesome. Right on the beach, right in the middle of town, just a short walk to anywhere. The beach-only access is just that…you must walk on the beach to get to the entrance. It is one of several things that make this hotel unique.
The staff is what really makes this hotel shine. They WILL assist you with your luggage across the sand when you arrive (if you notify them that you’ve arrived, as they wouldn’t know otherwise). I asked Pablo (the afternoon Front Desk) for two extra pillows on my second day. He didn’t have them, but promised to try to get me them the following day…and he did! Joaquin always provided excellent service during breakfast and also drink service on the beach during the day. And finally, our housekeeper did a great job every day. Although I never saw him/her, or know their name, they did a wonderful job of cleaning our room everyday. He got every piece of sand swept up off the floor every day!
The hotel has a computer with Internet available for guest use, free of charge. I used it the morning of my departure to check on my flight status. Wireless Internet is also available, for $5.00 per day charge.
The beach at Playa Maya is very nice. They will get your beach chairs set up for you each morning, along with an umbrella and a little side table. The beach itself is very nice. The water this time of year was a little chilly for me, but it was still very comfortable to swim in, once I got used to the temperature.
The only thing I would mention about Playa Maya is that it is certainly a quiet hotel in the evening. By 8PM or 9PM, the bar and restaurant are closed and there is no one around. You have to walk up into town to get something to eat or drink later in the evening.
Overall, I really enjoyed our stay at Playa Maya and would recommend this place.
