Our stay at the Playa Maya (for our 20th anniversary) was our first in Playa Del Carmen and, before we left, we were already planning a return. The hotel was classy but definitely unpretentious. I appreciated that our room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. Playa Maya is located right on the beach and it's in easy walking distance of restaurants, shops, spas, and outfitters. All of the staff were friendly and personable. Many spoke English, but we all enjoyed conversing in our less-than-perfect Spanish. All at Playa Maya truly made efforts to make our stay pleasant and memorable. We both highly recommend this hotel.

We chose Playa Maya for the beachfront location, and because of the positive reviews here on trip advisor. The hotel was really nice and we would stay here again, and recommend others to stay as well.
We had room 201 - deluxe oceanview, which was very nice. Small balcony, but plenty big enough for 2 to sit out and enjoy the ocean. You do have to look over the roof of the hotel next door (Pelicano, I think) and the roof of the Playa Maya, but you still have a nice ocean view, and a great view of Cozumel lights at night.
Kingsize bed was comfortable, no noise issues. We had a nice TV, safe, cold refrigerator and cold air conditioner.
Ther service in the hotel was very good. Rooms were clean, front desk was very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was awesome, eggs your way, bacon was very good, sausage or chorizzo, fresh squeezed orange juice.
We had the coconut shrimp twice, and I wish I had some right now. Best ever. Nachos are also very good. The only thing I did not like at the resturant were the fish tacos. Someone on an earlier post said they were good, but I must have gotten them on a bad day. I would not order those again.
The beach was pretty nice... smallish, with a 1-2 foot drop off, lots of rocks in front of the hotel, but you can walk either direction just a few feet and have a very swimable beach.
The pool was nice and cool. Great for cooling off after being at the beach, but not really a place to hang out.

Playa Maya is an excellent choice for anyone who wants to wake up every morning and BE on the beach. The rooms are clean and functional--nothing fancy. We had a small balcony that overlooked the entrance with a view directly out to the beautiful blue sea.
The tasty continental breakfast actually included more than we thought--you could get either bacon , eggs , ham, or fruit as part of the complimentary meal under a shady palapa with your feet in the sand! The staff was attentive and friendly.
The pool is shallow & smallish, but is really only needed to wash off any stray sand from the beach.
That part of the beach seems to be less congested (at least when we were there) and is close to Fusion (a great beach restaurant /bar) and a quick walk to the Cozumel ferry landing (about 5 minutes away). And, Quinta is just a couple blocks away.
We'd book back at Playa Maya in a heartbeat!

We have been going to Playa for the last 6 years and have tried the A.I. hotels, high end hotels and less than desirable hotels. Playa Maya is the one we will keep going back to every year! Great price, great location, great service, very nice rooms and bathrooms. Our favorite part of Playa Maya was the food and service we got on the beach. We have not had good experiences in the past with food at hotels and this was by far the best. We live in Austin, Texas and are lucky to have great restaurants to choose from and would choose to go to Playa Maya if it were here! The owner, Stephen, provided top notch service even before we arrived.
