What a beautiful little boutique hotel facing out to the beach! The location was fun, just a quick walk across the sand to the front door, the staff were consistently warm and helpful, and the food service was the best in Playa del Carmen. We spent 10 nights in the Deluxe Balcony room on the 3rd floor, waking up each morning to a magnificent view of the ocean. Our room was comfortable and very clean. The breakfasts couldn't have been any better, delicious food served by Carlos, Juan and Luciano, and a table on the beach with an unparalleled view. We were in Playa del Carmen long enough to try a variety of restaurants but no one served food as delicious and high quality as the Playa Maya. The front desk staff were very accommodating and admirably improving their English every day in order to provide excellent service. Thank you, Marie, Pablo and Oscar. You do the management credit! Our room service lady did more than keep our room clean and create incredible towel art: she even brought me some medicinal cream for some nasty insect bites on my legs. Thank you, thank you for that! I can't end this review without commenting on the excellent massage staff employed by Playa Maya. They are excellent, standards are high, and nothing beats lying on the beach and having your stresses massaged away. Truly an exotic and thoroughly satisfying experience. See you again sometime soon.

I arrived on Nov. 28th and stayed for 3 nights. Stayed in a deluxe balcony room because I wanted to splurge for a great view. Don't think I would splurge again as I feel it was not worth it, yes you can see the ocean and it is beautiful but the balcony is so small that you really did not want to spend any time out there (room 304) The room was clean and basic, bathroom was clean and never had a problem with hot water. Fridge was a nice addition. Staff was very kind and I even enjoyed a massage there. I will probably stay elsewhere next time though

My wife and I recently stayed with some friends at the Playa Maya from December 28 - January 4. This was our fourth time to Playa del Carmen, but our first time venturing away from an all inclusive resort. So after one week at a resort we took a taxi to Playa Maya. Right from the beginning the hotel staff made us feel welcome. As soon as they saw us with our luggage, two employees ran over and carried our suitcases across the beach and into the hotel. Upon check in, it was immediately evident they all made an effort to remember our names.

The next day, there was no need to get up early for beach loungers - the hotel staff had two set up for us already. After breakfast on the beach (included each day) we settled into endless days of relaxation on the beach. The service on the beach for food or beverages was always very good...with a waive of your hand to catch their eye, one of the staff would promptly come over to help us. The food was always excellent, although we really only tried a handful of items from the sizeable menu.

Our room was clean and cool (thanks to the A/C), with a wonderful view from the third floor. The deluxe balcony had a very comfortable king sized bed, flat screen TV, closet, safe and a small bathroom. We did find the hot water was limited each day, so if you need a long hot shower every day, you will be disappointed. Free wi-fi is available throughout the hotel and on the beach.

One of the many bonuses for us was the proximity to 5th Avenue in Playa del Carmen. A short one block stroll from the hotel, and the endless bars, restaurants and stores for shopping offer something to do any day or night. (for the night owls, you should check out Cocco Bongo - a late night club)

Overall we really enjoyed our trip and would absolutely return. If you are looking for large, all inclusive, luxurious and 5 star accommodations, the Hotel Playa Maya may not be for you. If you are looking for a small, comfortable, clean boutique hotel where the staff make you feel at home, I would highly recommend it. Never before have I stayed at a hotel where I left knowing the names of so may of the staff. My thank you to Stepen Ryberg for answering all of our questions during the booking process and greeting us when we arrived. And my thanks to Marie, Oscar, Juan, Louis, Carlos, Jesus, Sergio, Luciano, Alberto and of course, Angelina, who provided a few extras without having to ask - like a powerbar when she saw all of our devices.

We spent 5 nights in the Deluxe Balcony room on the 3rd floor. This hotel was exactly what we were looking for. It's right on the beach, so you have to enter from the sand. It's a block off the main strip so you won't hear any of the noise from the street at night. All we heard each night was the gentle pounding of the surf. Our room had a TV with enough English language channels to keep us entertained before bed, and a DVD player. We had a fridge with complimentary beer, soda and water. Each day we returned to an impressive towel decoration on our bed. The free breakfast was great--pancakes, waffles or eggs(and not the rubbery, assembly line type you get in the US chains, but made to order). We loved eating right on the beach with our toes in the powdery sand. The staff was extremely friendly--always greeting us with "Hola, como estas?" The hotel is in a perfect location. It's within walking distance to the Cozumel ferry, a block off the main strip and right on the beach. We would definitely stay here again.
