“Good Value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2013

The BRIC hotel proved to be a decent value for our one night in Playa del Carmen. The rooms were very basic, but clean. We booked a king sized bed, but were given a room with 2 full sized beds. It was annoying not to get what we reserved, but we kind of made a game out of it. ;)

Breakfast was nice, and I thought included. However, the girl at the front advised us as we were leaving that it was for an extra fee. The lady making breakfast was sweet and was working hard to provide a nice meal.

The guy at the front desk started out being kind of rude about our reservations. We booked through Priceline and he didn't seem thrilled about us being there. He fist said that Priceline hadn't sent him a confirmation email, so he couldn't give us a room. Then he said it had just come in, but that we couldn't have the king room we booked because it was reserved for another guest. Wasn't it also reserved for us? We were tired and had a fiasco with my husband's phone being lost/stolen and didn't feel like arguing. That's where the guy at the desk turned helpful. His attitude changed when he realized we had a problem and was helpful advice and letting use the desk phone as long as we needed to to get things straightened out. So, although e didn't get what we booked, the service ended on a positive note.

The stay was fine, but I probably wouldn't re-book here. The location was good, but there are are tons of tons of options in Playa del Carmen. Now that we've been there once, I would choose something swanky and romantic in the older portion of town of of 5th.

So much more than I hoped for. Super Clean, friendly and helpful staff and lovely garden and pool. Just steps from the best area of 5th st. shops, restaurants and cafe. The hotel said Continental Breakfast included but it was more than that, it was a full breakfast (ok food). Great value for the price.
The entire hotel was quiet but I loved my corner room. No one walking buy. Loved my terrace.

Our one week stay was great! Amazing service from the staff, a lovely oasis courtyard & pool. The breakfast bar allowed for talking & meeting the other guests, fun & interesting. Close to 5th Street & the incredible beaches! Ferry/Buses all nearby. The Bric's shuttle service got us from & returned to the airport in Cancun easily. Loved it and will return as soon as we can! M&M

Room Tip: Our 2nd floor room had a nice view over the pool, while shaded by the banana palm & coconut palm...

Given that on their website you can book a specific room, as each room is listed individually under their booking system, it came as rather a surprise that on arrival room 25 had been allocated when we booked room 24. It was supposed to be a comparable room, but was two small queen beds instead of a king double, no private balcony and one window looking over the bland street outside. Not acceptable, Room 25 is not great. But arriving at 9.00pm we had no other choice but voiced our dissatisfaction. The following morning after some discussion we were allocated room 21 which proved OK. But beware, in discussions we were told that despite specifically booking a room via their own reservations system this does not necessarily mean you will get that room and they allocate whatever is available. A very strange arrangement.
That apart the rooms were very nice and well furnished. Nice pool, although lacking in that there are sunbeds for 8 people with potentially 28 guests and these were always occupied when we returned from the beach. Not an issue for us, but perhaps for people who prefer the pool to the beach. Breakfast consisted of two cereals, porridge requiring warm water or muesli with nuts, not a great choice, a reasonable fruit selection, scrambled eggs and toast with tea and coffee. Any sausage or bacon was irregular and of a tiny portion so I wouldn’t count on that. Overall a comfortable stay but not highly rated.

Room Tip: not room 25

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for our hotel.

I did want to point out several issues.

One being that we can not guarantee specific room selections and is so pointed out in the reservation documents you completed. Of course we will always do everything in our power to accommodate any guest request including specific rooms allocations. However, there are circumstances beyond our control that sometimes require us to move guests to another room; these could include maintenance, guest extensions, etc.

Two, the breakfast is gratis, meaning it is free. The food we serve is all grown and purchased from local suppliers. The eggs and bacon are brought in from a farm in Tulum to us weekly based upon the supply that is available. As well, all fruits and vegetables are locally grown and organic. I'm not sure what porridge or muesli is, but we do serve fresh granola (usually eaten with fresh yoghurt). The granola is also made with locally grown nuts and grains and baked by the owner. I apologize if you felt the (free) food to be inadequate, but it is usually very appreciated by our guests. There are about 20 other restaurants within a 2 minute walk that serve all kinds of breakfasts (but probably not for free).

My husband and I had an eight night stay at the Bric Hotel recently. We had previously had to cancel which the Bric staff made incredibly easy for us. Better still was when we wanted to rebook a stay at the last minute the staff bent over backwards to accomodate us! We were very impressed with the service the Bric staff, (including Gustavo, Abril, Nikki, and Stephanie) provided. Thank you Gustavo for the discount coupons to XPlor and for all the helpful hints with taxis, restaurants, etc.The breakfast was okay. Got tired of scrambled eggs real fast but hard to complain too much considering the price we paid. The maintenance rooms are right beside our patio doors so we had many staff going in and out all day. No, it is not a five star hotel. The rooms are quite small. It is very basic but very clean and well maintained with a nice pool and courtyard. What is five star is the service, the value, and the location.
We will definitely be returning to The Bric Hotel.

For a one night stop in Playa this is a good choice for basic but decent accommodation. Clean and well maintained but nothing fancy, certainly not 5 stars as other reviewers would have it. First floor rooms are on the small side. Good breakfast was included in the price, good service and a nice pool in the courtyard. We wouldn't recommend this for more than a night or two, but for a short stay it's fine. Excellent location just off fifth ave.

Room Tip: Second and third floor rooms a little larger. Try not to stay on the calle 28 side, can be noisy.

My wife and I stayed for 4 nights in room 24 which only has a small window overlooking a road. The Bric Hotel is a small reasonably priced boutique hotel in a very good location close to the beach and the main pedestrian avenue. The rooms are adequate with double beds but no chairs although most have a patio or large balcony which serve as comfortable outside seating areas. The hotel is built around a courtyard set out as an oasis with palm trees and having a medium sized swimming pool in the centre. Buffet breakfast is included and was OK. Staff were friendly and helpful and overall we enjoyed the peaceful ambience together with the birds singing in the trees. The hotel does not provide a restaurent service. Avoid rooms 18 and 25

Room Tip: Rooms 27 and 28 seem to be favourite. AVOID rooms 18 and 25
