THIS WAS THE WORST VACATION EVER!! In all fairness we did know there was some damage from the hurricane, but nothing prepared us to what was really going on. We were told the beach club, beach bar, lobby, lobby bar and nightly activites areas were closed two weeks prior to leaving, but that they were shutteling people to other properties, they were not.
Two days prior to leaving we were informed that everything was up and running, they were not. although they did set up little make shift areas to get drinks, but they had the main and only swim up bar closed to retile. The cheezey white tents were not quite the same, and not at all what we were expecting.
By the way the information aquired about the damage was from the travel agent, I e-mailed the hotel directly on three occations and was never given the courtesy of a response.
The whole time we were there, there was constant banging ,hammering, leaf blowing, drilling, and chain sawing. NOT VERY RELAXING.
We got locked out of rooms on several occations because the card key did not work, and they said they would send someone only to wait 1/2 hour give up and walk the long walk back to the lobby.
When we checked into the room there was what could only be human excrement on the wall by the bowl. YUCK!!! They did switch our rooms but it wasn't a good start to the vacation.
The ice makers don't work in any of the buildings, unless of course your in the royal club, which brings me to another piont, they annoy guest with the royal club, peddeling it like it is a time- share. Promisng free gifts. Very annoying.
The blarring techno music at the pools all day, very relaxing(NOT)
The man made stream running thru the resort is rancid and saw a few dead fish. the whole trip was disapointing. Also they do not freely mention that there is a limit to the specialty restaraunts.
We did however enjoy the food.

This was my fifth time in Cancun and my first stay at the Caribbean Village Cancun. To be honest i wasn't impressed in the first instance, but only because i had compared the reception to the hotel i had usually stayed in, which is much newer. However, by the first night the hotel was brilliant.

There was a good range of food available, I am a really fussy eater but every night and throughout the day there was always something i could eat. The entertainment during the day at the pool was excellent the entertainers - Julian, Manuel, Marcela, Eloy and Charlie always try and get everyone involved and the shows at night what can i say i would pay to go and see these dancers they are awesome - much better than the dearer hotel i had usually gone to in previous years.

The only bad point was the rooms, they are basic but kept clean enough and sheets and towels are changed everday. But to be honest who wants to stay in their room especially when they are in Cancun.

Don't listen to the reviews that say don't stay at this hotel to be honest these people are far too fussy they are in Mexico - an undeveloped country. The place is awesome. Go and have a good time and a tip if you want to go out at night go with the entertainers they know all the best places and a tip if you are going to G-spot don't wear good clothes you will get really wet but you will have a fantastic time.

Have a brillant holiday.

Debbie x

I felt the need to put my two cents in. Its been 9 months since we have been home, just enough time for the vacation urge to start up again. I have researched, and been to many hotels in Mexico and all over the world for that matter. The GFX is top notch the service is flawless the food is great and the weather, lets just say I still have tan lines. We staid for 8 days and 7 nights in a Jr. suit in building 21. The room was big and the mini bar was always stocked. If you wanted more of some type of beverage and less of another all you have to do is ask. If you like pools this is the place to be!! The swim up bar is great, and the adults only pool in the back is a great place to catch up on some reading. Our personal favorite was the pool by our building. Thats where we spent most of our time. If you go make sure you say hi to Ana. She made our time spent at the pool great. Another tip tequila volleyball is a great time, actually tequila anything is fun. The great thing about this hotel is that there is something for everyone weather you want to relax and recuperate or let the little spring breaker in all of us out. The only problem is that the beach is small well its not really a beach its a bay like thing I guess. But as always the staff at the GFX saved the day. They recommended the beach in Playa Del carmen which is a 15 min cab ride away about for about 5 dollers. In closing this hotel is a great place for couples or family's. If your on the fence about staying here go for it you will not be let down. Remember the people that really complain about this hotel probably complain about everything else in life as well. If you have any questions at all feel free to shoot me an email and I will be happy to help you out.

we were the first to arrive at the 5th of august at the re-opening after
Emily paid the hotel a visit.
it was very, very nice, we stayed at the Royal Club, excellent food and very professional and very friendly staff.
especially the Italian restaurant was very, very nice, am mouthwatering if I think about it, but also the other restaurants were very good.
our kids stayed a couple of days in the kids club, they loved it, lots of activities like feeding the fish, swimming, going to see the monkeys in the park, building sandcastles, mini-disco etc etc
the private beach is very nice and a secure area , beach restaurant and a place to have drinks.

another advantage is that the hotel is next to the xcaret park, a very nice place to go !!

we were there for 14 days and we did't want to leave, next time we go for 3 weeks !!

hotel occidental grand flamenco xcaret, THANK YOU FOR THE NICE VACATION!!

We stayed in the Caribbean Village Cancun for 4 nights August 13 - 18. I have to admit that after reading some negative reviews I was very worried that this resort was a poor choice so I was pleasantly surprised when we got our rooms. My husband and I had a room with a king bed and our children ages 22 and 20 shared a room with two double beds. The air conditioning in both rooms was working fine and needed to be turned down. The bathrooms are fully functional and clean but the ceiling and the interior of the wooden door have moisture damage but there is no mold. The bath towels were not luxurious but there were plenty of them. The rooms have no balconies but they all have a nice view of the Caribbean Sea and the pools. The rooms were very clean and decorated in lively colors. Our beds were very comfortable.

There are 3 elevators and all worked most of the time. Since we were on the 3rd floor near the stairway the children and I usually just took the stairs while my husband used the elevators and he had no complaints.

The beach is one of the nicest along the one mile stretch I walked. There are 2 pools connected by the swim-up bar area. One pool has the activities and you may be encouraged to join in the activitiy. The other pool is great if you just want to read and relax and the staff does not bother you to join in the fun.

The staff was wonderful. I was advised by a travel agent to leave small tips daily, just one or two dollars. I don't know if this made a difference but our room was neater and had even more towels in it the second day. The bartenders and waiters appreciate tips too. For just $10 per day we were treated like royalty. The staff was always very nice and willing to make sure you had everything you desired.

We did not sample the disco, fun club or kids club activities. We did attend the free nightly shows and found them amusing. We also went to Aqua World to use their kayaks and paddle boats free of change as part of an arrangement they have with the resort.

The buffet was nice and had good variety reflexing nightly themes. Don't miss the opportunity to eat in the reservation only restaurants. The food here is far better than the buffet. You can make one reservation per room per day. If you are traveling as a group and have more than one room I would suggest going to the reservation desk and making group reservations under different room numbers for different nights. The reservations fill up quickly and are only taken between 9 a.m. - 11 a..m. Since many excursions have departure times before 9 this causes a problem. So pick a morning early in your visit and make as many reservations as you can. They will absolutely not work with you after 11 a.m. I was later told that I might have been able to place a dinner reservation through the front desk the day we needed to be out by 7:20 a.m. The dress for the Mexican and Brazilian restaurants is casual but the Italian requests elegant dress.

We stayed at the Caribbean Village because it was a bargin. We traveled with Apple and paid only $599 each for two rooms and that included air fare. We have stayed in much fancier and more costly places in St. Thomas and Maya Riveria. We all felt that we got more than we expected for our money. I would stay there again but not if I had to pay something like $800 each. We got more than our money's worth at Caribbean Village Cancun.
