You will not find a better bartender or more fun at the lobby bar than my man Oli. Wish he would always bartend there.

The event coordinators Fernie & Mario were absolutely excellent and full of energy.

Yovannetti's service and personal touch was outstanding. Great people.

No reservations needed for the nice restaurants.....

This would be a 5-star review other than the pool bar needs to be expanded for the in-water service & the lobby areas and lobby restaurants need to be air-conditioned.

My husband and I have just arrived home from our honeymoon at Ocean Maya Royale. We travelled on the Thomson Dreamliner which made the journey very comfortable.

On arrival at Ocean Maya (after a lengthy transfer) we were checked in at the privilege desk with a welcome cocktail. From this moment we knew we were going to have a fantastic honeymoon. We were taken to our suite which was spotless and beautifully decorated.

There was a bottle of sparkling wine and chocolate dipped strawberries as a welcome gift. Our room had a jacuzzi bath, robes, slippers and toiletries. Our mini bar was fully stocked and refilled daily. The air conditioning was very effective and made such a difference! There was a safe in the room but we did not have a problem with safety or security in the hotel and I often left my mobile phone charging and my husband's iPad.

The staff in the hotel cannot do enough for you and EVERY member of staff - from cleaners to maintenance men to bar staff and waiters - all say hello to as you pass them.

As part of the privilege upgrade there is a separate area on the beach with comfy loungers and wooden framed beds. The beach itself is very clean but the water has a lot of seaweed at certain times next to the privilege beach. This is completely natural and there is nothing the hotel can do. All you have to do is walk along to the other end of the hotel and the water is clearer - you can even see beautiful tropical fish! Our waitress at the beach most days was azucena -this woman is one of the hardest working women I have ever met and she does not stop smiling!

If you fancy a walk there is a beautiful lagoon to the left of the hotel maybe a 10-15 minute walk, great for pictures.

There is a privilege lounge which my husband used every day. It is an air conditioned room which has a tv and a self service bar. There are usually hot nibbles, crisps and nuts too, as well as a computer with internet access.

Other privileges are that you can have breakfast in bed and the use of a DVD player and DVDs if you wish. We used it one night when we had too much sun.

The hotel has wifi which can be accessed all over the hotel - including down on the beach!

There are 4 a la carte and one buffet restaurant which are all included in your package. We tried all of them but our favourite was la dolce vita the Italian restaurant down by the beach. It is often busy but as a privilege guests you can book a table which saves having to wait in queues. The steak in this restaurant is to die for! Our favourite waiters here were Genri, Oscar, Adrian but everyone we encountered was friendly. One of the restaurants requires men to wear full length trousers and fully covered shoes - blue moon.

There is entertainment in the hotel every night which runs on a weekly rota. I would say most things are worth seeing at least once. We had a rock show, Mexican night, Brazilian night, grease and a magic show. During the day there is entertainment in the large pool but my husband and I didn't use this pool as we were always on the beach.

There is a relaxing pool which we sometimes went into for a dip in the afternoon. It is not usually busy and there is a very shallow bit for people who want to just sit and cool down.

The lobby bar is the main place to get a drink in the evening. After the entertainment is over the place lacks atmosphere as there is no music playing and it is very bright. It can become very busy but it doesn't take long to get a drink - especially if Oli is working as this guy never stops and often liked to serve 2/3 customers at the same time. Most of the bar men and waitresses are very friendly and will chat and joke with you. Tila was our waitress in the evening, a beautiful girl who always smiles and has fun.

We done 2 excursions during our stay -chichen itza was absolutely amazing but it is quite far away and there is very little shade. It was a long tiring day but it was so interesting. I would highly recommend it. We also went to xcaret which is a huge park which has activities for everyone ranging from scuba diving and swimming with dolphins to animals, jungle trails and underground caves.

We also visited playa del Carmen one night. The hotel called us a taxi and it arrived straight away. It's 200 pesos there and 200 back - this works out about 10 quid each way. There are many shops restaurants and bars as well as market stalls and mariachi bands. We'll worth a visit!

We visited coco bongo nightclub and show. We booked this through Thomson and paid extra for the VIP band. Well worth it as you get a seat and a waiter who brings you unlimited drinks as you watch the show. We loved it!

Negatives - Mosquitos! Although we used bug spray we were both still bitten A LOT,! So make sure you buy some kind of deterrent, either a spray or band.

All in all we had a fantastic honeymoon and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a relaxing break.

We just came back from our 3rd stay this year which brings us to a dozen visits now. You might think we love this place and yes, we do. But not only that, we consider this hotel our second home.
Every employee, no matter if gardener, maintenance, housekeeping, waiters, bartenders or management, every single one tries its best to make your stay a wonderful time.
To all these complainers out there, please stay away. Nothing is like at home, its your job to adjust. Its mangrove area so yes, there are mosquitoes, and yes, you booked a beach vacation, there are sand fleas. Bring lots of Off spray and you will be fine. The pillows are lumpy? You read that here a lot, just bring your own. You don't like the food? Rent a condo and cook your own meal. With all the variety there its not possible to go hungry. And for what it is worth, we never experienced cold or raw food. May be we got lucky.
Loud, noisy and drunk Americans? These guests are from everywhere, not only the US, and yes, it can get loud at times. Still better than screaming, non supervised children.
So again, if you can't relax and think complaining will help to get some money back, stay away.
If you are looking for a relaxing place without parties all night long, great staff and wonderful surroundings, don't hesitate to go. We definitely won't.

It was the first time n Mexico and the first time in this resort. We had a great experience and really good time in the resort. The staff was excellent, always friendly and competent. Cocktails were absolutely amazing especially mojitos! The international buffet was really good, nice food and great choice. Also the Japanese restaurant was excellent with great entertainment from the chef. The room was very clean and comfortable.
The SPA was good, had a deep tissue massage and enjoyed it a lot.
The last day I didn't want to leave!

We just returned from our fourth visit -- a wonderful relaxing ten day stay at the Ocean Maya Royale. How can you improve on perfection? It is difficult, but somehow things just keep getting better and better. From the time of arrival until departure, the Ocean Maya Royale rewarded us with an outstanding and memorable stay once again. Maria Lopez, the subdirector at the resort, is amazing. Her kindness and attention to detail is remarkable. It was a surprising delight to be welcomed at the Privilege check in by Denise who we had the joy of getting to know during our stay last July.

Since Ocean Maya is a mid size resort, all of the rooms are within a short walk to the main lobby, restaurants, bars, pools and ocean. Again we found our room to be spacious and spotless, the mini bar well stocked while wine and chocolate covered strawberries awaited our arrival. We could not have scripted a better way to begin our stay.

Food: For us the fine dining choices are already superb, but again keep getting better. Of course we ate at the Italian Restaurant our first evening since it has always been our favorite. The location and ability to look out over the ocean and catch a breeze truly enhance the atmosphere. We quickly were reminded why the spinach salad and soup are some of our favorite starters to the numerous pasta, seafood, veal, and chicken entrees. And of course, don’t forget to try a chocolate martini or enjoy your dessert with a cup of cappuccino with Bailey’s on the side. The Blue Moon is the newest restaurant. It is a nice romantic addition with delicious menu items to choose from. (Men are required to wear long pants, so be sure to pack a pair.) At Yookoso, Japanese cuisine, you can enjoy ala cart dining or choose to sit at the hibachi grill. The sushi and variety of appetizers is only the tasty beginning to the recently updated menu items. El Charo offers ala cart Mexican cuisine in the evening but is the pool side lunch buffet by day. A typical lunch may include a grilled burger, hot dog, fish, vegetables, chips, guacamole, salsa and ice cream. La Hacienda offers a buffet for breakfast and lunch and various themed dinner buffets. From omelets to carved ham and everything in-between, one can always find something to satisfy their taste buds.

The staff and customer service is superb. Everyone greets you with a smile and many remember you by name. So many in particular come to mind for their outstanding efforts and personalities. Again, Maria Lopez, the subdirector is wonderful and is so very prompt in replying to requests and emails. Denise at Privilege check in is super efficient and has a charm of her own. Ali in the Privilege Lounge couldn't be sweeter. It was a delight getting to know her. We definitely looked forward to chatting with her each and every day. Her kindness went way above and beyond. Our waiter for privilege breakfast each morning was Alberto. For the past four years his charm and gracious attitude only enhanced his great service. Alfredo (Alberto's brother -in-law) is also fantastic and jolly. Anna at the relaxing pool brings plentiful drinks and they are always served up with a distinctive big smile. Karolina in the Japanese restaurant was another one of our favorites. We made her promise she would still be at Ocean Maya for our next stay. All the waiters at the Italian restaurant were great. They clearly make you feel special and are ready to make any type of celebration memorable. The romantic dinner by the pool is something everyone should try to enjoy. Besides the beautiful setting and ocean breeze, the meal was great. It's truly difficult to put into writing the memorable hospitality that abounds on the resort.

The entertainment has been expanded to include delightful and enjoyable outdoor shows. The Friday night Gala events were especially nice. The wait staff is always attentive and ready to serve you your drink of choice.

The only downfall of our vacation was having to say good bye. The shining lining to that cloud is that we will return again next year. If you are looking for a relaxing stay in the Riviera Maya, we truly recommend Ocean Maya, by H10. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: We prefer a room in the eight room villas near the pools and ocean.
