Hello Travellers,
We just finished a 1 month stay at Casa De Gopala for our 9th year and the beauty of this place is as much as Playa changes year afer year the Casa always stays the same.
Feels like Old Mexico , super clean, amazing staff, always make you fell like family coming home.
What more can I say..We love this hotel and evryone who works there.
Well Done Larry!!

Very basic hotel with a nice small pool on the roof and large but basic rooms. Be advised the only toiletries you get are small bars of soap; no shampoo, lotion etc. The staff are friendly and helpful with suggestions for restaurants etc. We took the ADO bus from the Cancun airport for $12 pp and then walked to the hotel...very short easy walk. It's a short walk to the beach & restaurants and the chaos of 5th ave.
During our visit the sewer smell was pervasive all over PDC...some of the shop were impossible to stay in due to the oder. Our hotel was fine but you could smell it from the property behind. We closed the windows at night and used the AC

Room Tip: As others have advised...there is no elevator and has a narrow winding stairway. We stayed in room...

After spending a week in a cheaper hotel to keep the budget down, we stumbled upon this gem one night after spying it across from one of our favourite places to eat. It was a little more expensive than our previous accommodation but it was quickly apparent that the extra expensive was directly linked to better value for money.
The hotel is tucked away in a lovely green sanctuary that is lit magically by night and adds a very peaceful element to the day. You could spend hours sitting on the verandah letting the day slip by or head up to the roof terrace and enjoy sun baking all day or cool off in the pool.
The rooms are spacious and clean with extra blankets for the rare chilly night. It was a pleasure to see the new towel art creations that the great housekeeping staff leave on your bed. So far we have had a rabbit, a turkey and a fish. It is the small touches such as this that make this place great. Large bottles of fresh water are located on every floor for your convenience.
This hotel is located so close to the main strip of Playa Del Carmen that you can see the street from the pool.
The only drawback we found was at times it can be a little noisy during the day with furniture being moved and the local dogs barking but this happens rarely and is over and done with fairly quickly.
We would stay here again in a heart beat!

Room Tip: The higher rooms are quieter however if you have a lot of bags be aware that there is no elevator.

Casa de Gopala is the best home away from home, this makes year 19. Same hotel same room. Love love love Larry and the staff, central to everything. 3 blocks from the bus, 2 blocks from the best beach of the area and any restaurant is so worth it. Especially off of e 5th.

Room Tip: Rooms on the second floor under Larry's residence are great but the third floor of the original...

We stayed here and dived with Yukatek divers adjacent to the hotel. So easy and fun! The hotel is hidden and quiet right in the middle of town. I loved the pool on the roof top and a view to die for. We could see Cozumel, the beach and the town of Playa del Carmen. The staff is terrific. Very helpful. Erasmo you were super! And Carlos very nice. I fell in love with the decor and the jungle like plants. Can't wait to return, I miss this place already!

Room Tip: I got to see all the rooms while I was there and they all seem great. My friend and I like to eat i...

I stayed at the Casa De Gopala as it was nearby to the dive shop I was diving with. This is very average accommodation. The fittings in the room were aged and the bed and shower were also aged and average. Not bad as backpacker accommodation but considering the other accommodation in the area I think better can be had.
