“Superb stay at a small ultra-service hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013

We booked with the sister hotel Xperience Aqualuna, but when we arrived they told us they overbooked us, due to me booking online and them booking directly within a short period of time the night before. We were assured that they were upgrading us to the Hacienda Paradise just a few blocks away. We were not disappointed- far from it. Total dedication to our comfort began immediately. Anallely efficiently and cheerfully checked us in with big smiles, Diana walked us up to the 2nd floor and showed us a very clean, beautifully tiled, good-sized room with a very comfortable king bed, good AC, small fridge, in-room safe, flat screen (we barely used) and a shaded balcony overlooking the pool (each room has a balcony). Beautiful bath room with modern shower and vanity. Ultra green: low flow, recycling throughout, no AC in the lobby (but wasn't a problem). We were a little worried the room would be noisy at night, since the hotel was on a fairly busy street only a block away from the very busy pedestrian only, tourist shop-filled 5th Avenue (with some awesome fine dining restaurants). But they've ingeniously designed the rooms so the bathroom is close to the busy street and a door and wall separate it from the part of the room where the bed is.
They don't have their own parking lot, which we thought may be a problem, and would cost us time and expense. However, close-by free street parking was readily available the entire time we were there. The concierge manager Marcos informed us that we were missing our front license plate on our rental- we had gotten a ticket but thought it was a warning since it didn't have any fine amount on it. We would have missed our flight if we had arrived at the airport to return our car as we were catching our flight because it was necessary to go to the police station to retrieve it and pay the fine. Marcos was amazing as he insisted on going to the police station, explaining our case, and getting our plate back with no fine assessed. And he staunchly refused to accept any gratuity for his effort. He went above and beyond to assure our complete comfort during our stay.
An on-site restaurant and bar would be nice- they offer only breakfast, which was decent. But it was easy to walk across the street to pick up cocktails to accompany us back to the small, sweet on-site pool. And there were so many 4- or 5-star restaurants close-by. Not a problem.
I really cannot praise the staff enough! Diana cheerfully booked us beautiful scuba dives on the reef at Xpu-ha (be careful to ask how much of the the day the dive excursion will take up). Nancy was wonderful on the day we checked out, paid the small tab, her printing out our flight boarding passes, everything with a big smile.
The stay at this hotel was truly first rate. We have only good memories of a great time. The staff truly made us feel that they were there only to assure our total comfort. Marcos, the concierge manager constantly amazed us by always being there to assist us with anything and everything we might need. He, along with the rest of his staff we encountered, are such a valuable asset to this hotel's management.
(Please make sure you generously tip those that serve you when you travel. We received such great service on our entire trip. The small amount of tip we give can make a big difference in their families' lives. They don't earn near the salary levels we do, and the gratuities we can give mean much more in their pockets than ours. It really burned me seeing other foreign travelers treat their servers with such disdain as they were afforded such great service, and then leaving little or no tip. Don't be the ugly American or European (they seemed the worst at leaving no tip.)

I heartily recommend this to anyone who wants a great experience in a small boutique hotel, close (but not too close as to be noisy) to the tourist area and white-sand, turquoise water beach, very reasonably priced (some might say inexpensive, especially for the value you get) with ultimate comfort and service. Were we to stay in Playa del Carmen again in the future, we would hope to be able to stay there again.

Room Tip: They all seemed equally wonderful.

I'm now reading some of the previous good reviews and trying to find out something different to tell about this place. Everything I read is absolutely true. If you're not into the whole big resort/all inclusive kind of thing that the riviera maya is full of, this is definitely the place for you. The rooms are super nice, perfect location outside the noise and close to the beach, the atmosphere is really cozy, and I'm gonna miss the breads they served for breakfast for the rest of my life. But there's a thing that makes this place outstanding, the staff. I'm not afraid to say this was the best service I had in a hotel. Period. Everyone who works in this place is there to make you feel home. And for me, that was the feeling I had. From the girls of the front desk (Andrea, Martha and Anallely), to the servers at the restaurant (Hector and Francisco). This people are the best. And if you wanna go in any tour, visit any restaurant, beach club or whatever it may be, just go to the concierge table, find Fernanda and have the best chat about what playa del carmen and vicinity has to offer. I advise you to reserve at least half an hour for this, she's really charming and you will not want to get out of that chair!!
Bottom line is, I'll recommend this place to anyone, and I would go back for sure.

This review is long overdue. My wife and I stayed at this hotel for our honeymoon in June 2012 and had a wonderful time at the hotel and in Playa del Carmen. If you prefer large resorts with 4 on-site restaurants, 5 pools, many guests etc, then this is not the place for you. If on the other hand, you prefer a small intimate hotel, where you are not just a number, and where staff knows you by name and tries to make your experience as memorable as possible, then Hacienda Paradise is your spot! On arrival, we were greeted with a complimentary bottle of wine and our room was decorated with rose petals, balloons and towel art, in celebration of our honeymoon. This was the start of a wonderful stay. Front desk staff was always friendly. The concierge provided great assistance with our tour arrangements. She was very helpful. Breakfast was delicious and served up by a friendly staff, especially Hector. The hotel is clean, well maintained and provides a great base from which to explore 'Playa' and the very close 5th Avenue (Bustling tourist strip) - about 30s walk away. My wife and I will definitely return to Playa del Carmen on another trip and will look no further than Hacienda Paradise for accommodation. Thank you from your Barbados guests!

We had such a lovely stay here. The room was really nice (and the air con great), the staff were lovely and helpful and the breakfasts were great. It was in a good spot too - a bit removed from the main strip, which is very touristy, but still close to the beach. It was also very reasonably priced and the towel art in our room was hilarious. I've spent more and gotten less in other places in Mexico. Would definitely recommend!

My husband and I spent our vacation at the Hacienda Paradise on a timeshare exchange. The room itself Master Suite was big enough with one balcony, a huge bathroom with a whirlpool tub, a mini bar and a nice living room and 42" plasma.

All of the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful and made our trip perfect. the Food and beverage Christian, Chef Jorge, waitress Hector, Pancho, Aureliano and Martha from Front Desk.

They even gave us a plate of fruit for our welcoming!

We enjoyed the pool and restaurants on-site, the food was good specially the smoothie kiwi and strawberry and the service was excellent. We're already thinking about going back!

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Hacienda Paradise in April 2013 as our first stop on a 2 week journey down the Yucatan peninsula, into Belize and across to Guatemala. We were generally looking for well-located, comfortable accommodation at a good price, and Hacienda Paradise was absolutely perfect for our requirements.
Having researched many of the highly-ranked hotels in Playa Del Carmen, we felt Hacienda Paradise was the right balance of cost, quality and location and thankfully as soon as we arrived we knew we had picked a winner.
We got the ADO bus direct from Cancun to Playa Del Carmen (about 50 mins, comfortable, regular and a fraction of the price of the private shuttles available in the arrivals hall). The ADO bus terminal from the airport drops you at one end of the “strip”, which is lined with shops, restaurants etc. and although we had checked the map we underestimated the walk to Hacienda Paradise which is towards the far end of the strip, set back one block. The walk is only actually around 10 minutes but in the afternoon heat with two large bags we found it a bit of a struggle- so if you are feeling lazy or have very heavy luggage consider a very short taxi ride.
The hotel is located two blocks back from the beach and one block from the main strip, so really convenient just without the beach views and associated big price tags. The facilities were great for the price – a lovely large, clean room with a big bed, good AC, complimentary coffee and water in the reception area and a small pool area, although with a beautiful beach so close we did not make use of it.
We also found the staff to be fantastic – friendly and welcoming at all times and tolerant of my terrible Spanish. We got a couple of great recommendations from the concierge and receptionist – firstly we asked for a nearby taqueria where we could get authentic tacos in an attempt to avoid the tourist traps along the strip, and we got pointed to a wonderful place called “El Fagon” just a couple of blocks from the hotel which was as rough and ready as they come, but packed with locals, cheap and served great alambres. The following day we asked where the best spot on the beach was, and we got pointed to a great bar/restaurant on the beach front where we had use of comfy sunbeds all day as long as we ate the delicious and reasonably priced beach BBQ for lunch.
Our next stop after Playa Del Carmen was Merida, and having walked back to the terminal we were dropped off at from the airport to buy the tickets, we were pleased to discover our next bus departed from the other ADO terminal even closed to our hotel, so we found the location even more ideal.
In summary, for the price and location Hacienda Paradise is a great choice. Do not expect opulent luxury or to be directly on the beach, but it is perfect if you are happy to be a couple of blocks from the sea and need a good quality, clean and friendly place to stay.

Stayed here recently and was blown away by this hotel. The reception greeting was perfect! Entire staff was friendly, helpful and resourceful. Rooms were beautifully decorated and well kept by the maintenance department. The location is perfect!!! Located 1 block from 5th Ave (similar to Miami beach's Lincoln Road) and also located on the beautiful beach. FREE continental breakfast and delicious. ( Fresh food)
