“Beautiful hotel/grounds with great/inexpensive food and close to 5th Avenue shoppng.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2010

My spouse, sister and her husband stayed 5 nights in early February. We found the Hotel to be exactly what we had researched on the Internet. The grounds were beautiful and the food was excellent, as well as reasonably priced. The rooms were very spacious and the towels were large and thick. The staff was courteous and accommodating. One of the rooms required brighter lighting next to the bed (for reading), and the staff immediately resolved our problem. Our only complaint was that many of the sundeck lounges were broken to the point where you could lie down but could not sit up on them because the notches were broken. We brought this to their attention and they immediately removed them; however, we were never provided with replacements. WI-FI is available throughout the grounds if you bring your own laptop. One computer is povided but was in use most of the time. The Hotel has 3 levels with outside access and no elevators. If you have any problems with steps, you'll want to request a room on the ground floor. We were within minutes of walking distance to 5th Avenue shopping, restaurants and nightlife. We did not utilize the gym or the beach, but we walked the short distance to the beach just to check it out. We were extremely happy with our stay here and would highly recommend the Aventura Mexicana. We will definitely stay there again!

My husband and I enjoyed our stay here- second time in Playa del Carmen, first time in Aventura Mexicana. We did not see any point in paying high-end hotels, considering you spend most of the time outside, in tours or on the beach. The staff very is helpful. Even Jorje from the travel agency was very kind and helpful, even though we didn't book any tours with him. The hotel is very clean and beautiful, there are gardens and pools all around. Our room (superior king on the first floor next to the pool) was fine, clean but a bit damp. Noise from the street was very slight, so hardly an issue at all. The A/C was good in cooling the room quickly, but didn't keep it dry (hence the dampness. our clothes and swimsuits could only dry outside).
The continental breakfast was ok (too bad the orange juice isn't freshly squeezed). Only complaint here is that it took a long time to get everything, sometimes even over 20 minutes (and that's just for the coffee, juice, toasts and jams). We ordered from the menu twice, and it was tasty. Also ate at the Mayan Bistro one night, good food. We suggest trying the local food (near the Mega there are some good restaurants), which is also cheaper.
The hotel is very close to the beach and avenida 5, the perfect location in Playa.

This is the third time my partner and I have stayed at Aventura Mexicana and we love it! We have never ever stayed at the same hotel more than once when travelling on vacation so that is something! Everyone who works at the hotel is very helpful and friendly, the grounds are great and the rooms are terrific for the most part. We have seen marked improvement in the hotel since our first stay here four years ago. Special acknowledgement to Antonio and Jose at the front desk who went out of their way to answer our questions and accomodate us. I cannot believe how clean the rooms are and I wish we had a housekeeping staff at home that was so thorough! The past two times we have stayed there we have chosen a Deluxe room..the best feature of which was the bottled water cooler which we used extensively. The mix of people this hotel attracts is fantastic. Gay couples should note that this is not a gay/lesbian hotel although there most likely will be at least one or two other gay/lesbian couples staying there at any given time. We felt very welcome on every trip here so that was not a big concern. Unlike, all-inclusive resorts, you can expect to find couples and families from all over the globe staying here making for a nice diverse mix. Although there were more children staying here on this trip than the last trip, they were for the most part very well-behaved. In addition, families stay in a completely different section of the hotel with a separate pool, etc. The only drawbacks I would say were that we did see a number of folks (although not us) who seemed to be waiting an inordinate amount of time for their breakfast to be served and some actually left to have breakfast elsewhere in frustration. In addition, the floorplan of the rooms we have stayed in are a bit strange with the bathroom situated behind a curved wall with no door. Also, they had one internet station for guests' use and there was always a wait. We would recommend adding another workstation. Other than, it is fabulous!!!

Myself and daughter spent 7 days in Playa Del Carmen at the Adventura Mexicana hotel and were extremely impressed with its great staff, cleanliness, security and food! We decided that we didn't want to go to an "all inclusive resort" because we wanted to go on alot of tours and felt the added expense of going "all inclusive" was not cost effective. We spent the extra money it would have cost going to a high end resort....on tours! With the added bonus every night we ate at many extremely taste restaraunts on 5th Ave.
On our first day we took the ferry over to Cozemel and hired a taxi driver to take us on a complete tour of the island. Stopping at a small restaraunt and ate an amazing seafood platter! The food was very fresh and tasty, along with the beautiful view of the ocean, the
sound of the waves and friendly service!
The second day we went to Xel Ha....not a tour guided one. Which for us was perfect, as we spent lots of time snorkling and swimming. Xel Ha is a wonderful natural water park with lots of things to do and see. Cliff jumping, rafting through the mangroves and down the river, hiking, lounging and a great buffet to eat at! Don't miss this place if you want lots of water fun, the snorkling is great, you'll love it.
Day three we went to Xcaret, we orginally planned on not going here. Because we thought it would be alot like Xel Ha...It's not at all the same. It is beautiful lots of walking, parrots, flamigos, rivers to snorkle or raft, caves, tunnels, ruins, humourous Mexican cemetary, scenery and the most amazing evening show. Don't miss going here...make sure to wear comfortable shoes!
Day four we went on "Tulum and Beyond tour" with Yucatrek tours! They are a fanastic tour group. First we went to Tulum and toured the ruins for 1 1/2 hours, then to "Grand Cenote" for a refreshing swim, then to a ocean beach to play in the waves while our tour guides made us a shore lunch, then we went swimming in another cenote before returning to our hotel. Great relaxing day!!! A fantastic tour with Yucatrek tours, would for sure do this tour again!!
Day five we went on the "Coba Mayan Encounter tour" first we stopped at the Coba ruins for a couple hours, here we had the chance to climb to the top of the Yuctan Pennisulia's highest pyrimid! Wow, what a sight from the top. Then we went to a Mayan village and treked into the jungle a mile or more on very uneven rock terrain. Then rappelled 50 ft down into a cenote, the zip lined, had an autentic Mayan dinner. This was a Very exciting tour and I don't think I would have wanted to be much older to have done it! Not for the faint of heart or physically challenged, as far as I'm concerned!
Day five was a horse back riding at Rancho Baaxal, we rode through the jungle and on the ocean beach. It was a good tour and the horse seemed to have been looked after quite well!
After the horse back riding we went to Dolphin Discovery to swim with the Dolphins. We were quite disappointed that we actually only spend 30 or so minutes in the water with the Dolphins! And that when we went to buy the pictures, especailly of the "Foot Push" that they didn't sell that picture like all the rest. If we wanted the "Foot Push" picture we had to buy the c.d for another $50.00. I would advise anyone interested in swimming with the Dolphins to look else where.
Each day we were picked up either at the hotel or very close by between 7 -8 in the morning and dropped off between 6 -7 at night. I can't say enough good about the Hotel, cleanliness and Wonderful staff! I would go back to the Hotel Aventura Mexicana ina "Heart Beat" , great location, fanastic Mayan Bistro cafe and wonderful massage staff also!!! Plus the added pleasure of english speaking staff, that arrange our tours, needs and transportation to and from the airport!! This was an absolute perfect hotel for us, thank you staff of the Mexicana for the wonderful time and memories of Playa Del Carman!!

Traveling with my sister to Playa del Carmen and what attracted us to the Aventura Mexican were all the good reviews we read. For a budget hotel we weren't dissapointed at all...friendly staff, a few blocks from the beach and just off 5th Avenue. The room was spottless as were all other areas of this small hotel. Pools were rather small but just right for cooling off while sunbathing at the hotel, but who needs pools with a beautiful beach so near. The breakfast included in the room price was served in the Mayan Bistro each morning and consisted of toast, juice, coffee and an array of delicious pastries.
Were we to visit Playa del Carmen again, I think we would chose the Aventura Mexicana.

This hotel was even better than the photos on the internet. The grounds were beautiful and well kept, the hotel very conveniently located but still quiet and the service was excellent. It would have been nice if at least one of the pools had been heated.

We are leaving Hotel Aventura Mexicana today after having been here for six days. We had a wonderful time and are so sorry to go! The staff, in particular, is helpful, kind and courteous. The hotel itself is spotless. We had a basic double. Our room was spacious, although a bit dark, clean and comfortable. We had a fridge in the room in which we kept bottled water and various leftovers. We had a balcony, but it overlooked the street, so we didn't use it.

The hotel has two small-ish pools. One is on the "family side" and the other is for adults only. My four and one-half year old son greatly enjoyed playing in the family pool and in the hot tub (that is hot in name only).

The grounds are beautiful, lush and green.

Included in the price of the room was a basic continental breakfast. Perfectly fine.

The hotel has a great location! Literally a five minute walk to either Mamitas or Kool beach clubs. The hotel has a 10 peso discount for the plastic beach chairs at Kool. The hotel is located on 24th street between 5th and 10th avenues, a perfect location for wandering.

Best of all, the hotel staff is super friendly and helpful. We felt well taken care of and can't wait to come again!
