“Great Honest Place with Helpful Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2014

Stayed at the Aventura for one week at the end of Feb, 2014. Friends getting married at one of the large - mega resorts, but we were not interested in staying there. The Aventura Mexicana is just off of 5th Ave, which is the main retail/shopping strip that extends for blocks and blocks. Everything that you need is close to the location, or a short taxi ride away.

The staff were friendly and helpful - Luis at the front will assist you with anything that you need, and Candy at the small hotel restaurant was friendly and nice to be around!

Overall it was exactly what we were looking for - not one of the huge all inclusive resorts, and has some of the traditional Mexican feel to it. The grounds were lush and the pools are small but refreshing. It is about a 5 minute walk to the beach if that.

Room Tip: The 100 level rooms are on the main floor with nice little patios you can enjoy, however even the up...

We loved this hotel. Exactly what we wanted: clean rooms, friendly service, close to beach club, close to restaurants , not close to any rowdy place, beautiful courtyard. Restaurant on site. Continental Breakfast included.
I did not partake but they had yoga classes in the morning and they do have a spa on site. Would recommend.

Room Tip: Request a room with Courtyard view.

I hate to give this place a good review because I want to be able to go back and don't want it to get crowded or for the prices to go up....BUT I MUST....because it was a wonderful experience.

I'm not sure where to start...
....housekeeping (Christina) amazing- I don't know how she learned to do towel art, but it was amazing!!!
....maintenance...constantly working....cleaning pool, paths, painting...
....front desk...friendly, helpful, responsive...
....restaurant....outstanding food, service & atmosphere...when I asked why they don't expand, I was told because they want to be able to keep their outstanding "everything". Sounds good to me...but as word gets around...reservations will become necessary!
Try the Cilantro or Chipolte Shrimp...both were delicious...breakfasts were delicious especially breakfast burrito...light or dark beer on tap was cold and refreshing...
This is the place to stay. 2 1/2 blocks to beach...1/2 block to 5th avenue.
Oh, my husband wants me to tell you our room was great. He especially liked the clock radio that played ocean sounds as we went to sleep!

Room Tip: Honeymoon room was great...on ground level...near everything!

We just spent 4 nights at Hotel Aventura on our first trip to Playa del Carmen and we loved the hotel. The staff was great and the hotel was wonderful. Very clean and smily friendly but never noisy. Two great pools. Luis helped us with several excursions and told us about several places we did not know about. Would have wasted a lot of money without his advice. We missed our airport transfer (our fault) and the hotel was kind enough to refund our money which was not expected at all. Would recommend this hotel to anyone.

We have just stayed at this hotel for 5 nights in one of the Junior Suites situated around the pool on the ground floor. Let me start with the pluses. Fantastic gardens, full of colour and really sets off the hotel. Pools kept clean and some good rooftop terraces to lounge about on. Clean beach towels are provided whenever you want them. The staff were very courteous and helpful and my wife looked forward to returning to our room to see what animal had been created out of the towels by the cleaning staff. The hotel itself is centrally located within Playa del Carmen but enough away from 5th Avenue to not be too noisy. The Mayan restaurant provides a varied menu and is a good place to eat and is good value for money if you do not take up the VIP package. The hotel has an agreement with 2 hotels to use their beach area, Kool and Indigo. With Kool you have to pay a subsidised amount whilst at Indigo it is free and when you visit the Indigo you will see why it is free. It is shabby to say the least and looks out onto moored fishing boats with their mooring ropes coming right up the beach. Stick with Kool. Now to the minuses. I do not know if the hotel is undergoing any sort of refurbishment but our room could do with some. The main bedroom / living area was adequate. The bed was comfortable and there was a microwave, fridge, coffee machine (instructions on its use would have been nice, we had to ask the maid how it worked) 2 televisions. The bathroom was sorely in need of an upgrade. When you use 15mm copper tubing (used for gas and water) as your shower rail and plastic overflow pipe as your towel rail holder then something needs to be done (see pictures). The shower area was also tile grubby. At about 6pm every night we could hear the thumping of music in our room from the restaurant next to the front of the hotel. This would go on till 11pm most nights. There was also a droning sound of either a generator / aircon which would kick in ever 5 mins then go off only to return 5 mins later. This was every night and we could not find where it came from. The lite continental breakfast is what it says, bread, yoghurt, tea, coffee, boiled eggs, fruit and weak fruit juices. We ate in the Mayan on 2 occasions and although the food was good and good value both times the food was only just warm so much so that on the 2nd occasion I had to send it back to be re-heated. All in all we enjoyed our stay at the Mexicana and if the room was of better quality we would have awarded it excellent. Would we go back? For the hotel itself, yes but the rooms / bathrooms would have to be upgraded

Room Tip: All the rooms seem to be around the pool area so if you have the wrong type of clientele who think t...

We stayed here for 1 week in January 2014 - our 1st trip to Playa. We are so fortunate we ended up choosing Aventura. The hotel was boutique in nature, beautiful, clean, well maintained. The pool, surrounding which was lush tropical trees, plants and the bar, is spectacular. There's a sun deck one floor above. We loved sitting outside in chairs outside of our room and relaxing. The location for Playa seemed great. We fell in love with Aventura and Playa and will definitely return to both. Thank you Aventura Mexicana !!

Room Tip: We were happy we were on the second floor facing the pool/courtyard. I would not want to be on the 1...

My sister and I and our husbands just enjoyed our fourth stay (in as many years) at the fabulous Aventura Mexicana. This trip seemed better than ever, only because this is the best place to stay in Playa del Carmen and we enjoy it more every time we’re there. We’re treated like royalty, starting with the minute we make our reservation (Andrew Mortensen is the best). Unlike the very large resorts, it’s a smaller boutique hotel where you don’t get lost in the crowds. You get to know practically all the staff, especially in the Mayan Bistro Restaurant, and you’re always treated special.
When you check in, you’ll most likely be assisted by the Guest Services Manager, Luis Ortiz. Luis is so fun and personable, and he’ll do whatever he can to ensure you’re taken care of and happy with your accommodations. We had an unfortunate problem before arriving at the hotel, and Luis was able to quickly get us the assistance we needed to resolve the problem.
We stayed in delux king rooms with garden/pool view, which are located on the main floor in the adult section of the hotel. There’s also a family section, with a separate family pool. In the past, we’ve also stayed on the 2nd and 3rd floors and have never had problems with any of our rooms. There are no elevators between floors, so be sure to request a ground floor room if steps are difficult for you. I actually prefer upper floors so that I get some exercise since I tend to eat too much of the great food from the Mayan Bistro. Our rooms were spacious; and the beds and pillows were comfortable, and you’ll be provided with sufficient organic toiletries, which are replenished each day after use. The rooms were always cleaned very well each day.
The Aventura Mexicana is not located directly on the beach, however, it’s about a 2 block walk to the beach, and you have beach access from the hotel. It seems that most guests prefer going to the beach every day, so we had the adult pool practically to ourselves every day. There are 8 lounges and several tables located around the adult pool. Both the 2nd and 3rd levels also have lounges, and we used lounges on every level at different times. The pool is also located right next to the Mayan Bistro, where there are tables both outside and inside the restaurant. This made it convenient for us to walk from our lounges to the restaurant when we were ready for lunch or snacks.
We purchased the VIP All-Inclusive Plan, which we’ve done for our last 3 stays here (it wasn’t available the first time). With this plan, you can have unlimited food and drinks from the Mayan Bistro Restaurant, and this restaurant is fabulous. The VIP plan can only be purchased through the Aventura Mexicana website and its well worth it. The restaurant is relatively small, and we have gotten to know each and every person on staff whom we always look forward to seeing when we return each year. (Staff turnover is rare.) You also don’t have to be a guest of the hotel in order to eat at this restaurant. Since there are so many great things to say about the Mayan Bistro, I don’t know where to start. The Shrimp or Fish a La Plancha is extraordinary. We all agreed that the extra large shrimp tastes just like lobster! My hubby raved about the Tortilla Soup and the Cream of Celery and Gorgonzola Soup. The Mayan Salad was my favorite starter, while my sis and her hubby ate the Cesar Salad almost every day with their meals. (For more great information about this restaurant, you should visit the Trip Advisor Restaurant reviews.) A big thanks to all the Mayan Bistro staff, who have always made us feel special: Chris (manager), Dora, Candy and Sarah (breakfast and lunch servers), Gaby and Nicholas (dinner servers), and a special thanks to our favorite bartender Jorge!
A final big thanks to Rob Smearing for being our Aventura Mexicana friend and operating a fabulous hotel! We WILL see all of you again next year!!!!

Room Tip: Since there are no elevators, you might want to request a room on the main floor if you have difficu...
