“Great resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2013

My wife and I stayed at rpm 10/28 thru 11/5 ,and w
e are seasoned travelers to MX , having stayed at the following resorts previously ( excellence rc, iberostar maya twice ,Valentine imperial , occidental grand excaret , royal solaris ). I think rpm is as good as any that I have stayed at.. The food ,staff are very good . The following people made our stay special ,Ernesta ,Andrea ,Daniel ,Jesus ,and the crew at the steakhouse, were we ate 5 of the seven nights we were there ,Manuel at the entrance , the senorita that tended bar in the main bar who has been there for a long time but I can't remember her name, the only gripe that we had was bathrooms are to far from the beach ,and do something about those black tiles by the stairs to the beach ,hot ,hot .. Overall a very good resort...

My husband and I, along with another couple, returned two weeks ago from the Riu Palace. As always, it did not disappoint. This was our 5th time at this resort, but we have not been in about 5 years. We were happy to see that some of the staff is still there and remembered us. To Manuel at the front door, Santoyo at breakfast and dinner, and Marielle at the bar, it was so great to see them and get a "welcome home". They are amazing.

Unlike some of the previous reviews, we really liked the renovations, especially by the pool. There are so many loungers, no one had to play the "towel" game. There was always availability. They have also done a wonderful job with the beach. It is absolutely beautiful. Another nice touch was the barbeque on the beach every day at lunch; if you didn't want to go inside to eat, you could grab some food and eat at the beach or at the pool. The entertainment staff was also great trying to get people to participate in activities. When we were there they even did water aerobics in the ocean. That was awesome and I believe more people participated in the ocean than they did in the pool.

Many have stated that they did not like the room set up. I agree, it's not for everyone, but we thought it was just fine. Yes, there is a musty smell, but we have not been to any resort in Mexico or the Dominican that did not have this problem. The food was very good in the buffet - I can't believe people could not find something to eat, given all of the options. We only tried one speciality restaurant, the steakhouse. We thought it was okay.

To sum it up, try this resort. It is clean, well kept, beautiful, and the staff could not be more friendly. They work so hard to try to please everyone. It is also remarkable that the servers can remember what you like and what you drink. By the second day, we never even had to tell them what we wanted to drink; they just brought it!

Would we go back - absolutely. If we didn't have our next trip planned already, we would definitely return. Probably next year!!

Just spent 10 days at the Hotel and you cannot fault the rooms, staff, and food but the hotel leaves so much to be desired.
There is only one lift and that is at the entrance to the hotel,if you are in a room anywhere in the hotel you are lucky if you do not have a very long walk to either the beach or the other way to the restaurants. There are very and i mean very long walks to the toilets where ever you are situated.
If you have any type of disability the hotel is not for you.A long walk to everywhere is guaranteed and I also saw at least three people go flat on there back on the black tiles by the pool but they did say they were going to replace them it's a shame because with a bit of a change it could be so much improved.

Room Tip: Get a room above ground floor on the left side as you walk in if poss better views

We have been staying at the RPM for over 10 years and were a little apprehensive about the renovations. After a short time there we realized it is the same fabulous palace even with the changed looks. The staff make your vacation so special and really make you feel like royalty. Special thanks to manager Francesca Vasquez for granting our special room request. Also thanks to our #1 waiter, Abraham and door man extraordinaire Manuel!! Food, beach, lobby, bars and suites all awesome. Can't wait till our next visit!!

I just spent a week at the Riu Palace Mexico and I miss it already!

The service is outstanding, always friendly, regardless of whether you give tips at every chance or more occasionnally. One of the front desk employee was very helpful when a medical device broke down and we had to buy an emergency replacement.

The food was so good, fresh, well seasoned and varied. We tried all the a la carte except for the Italian, and they were all great options, except maybe for the Japanese. The atmosphere and the food were both lacking there compared to our other options. Skip it and get one more dinner at the buffet, it was probably my favorite one after all. Chocolate fondue fountains!!! I also loved the little café corner that served little bites and sweets as well as delicious capuccinos.

I tried to sample all the frozen drinks on the cocktail menu, there are a lot of options to choose from. I loved that they were having someone bring a selection directly at the beach loungers area!

I was pleasantly surprised by how nice the beach and the water were. We had rough seas during most of our trip, but it was nonetheless a lot of fun, very clean. Loungers chairs were plentiful, we only had trouble finding one on Sat morning.

I did not participate in any activities. The shows at night were a mixed bags, but I don't usually watch them. The decor of the hotel is borderline kitsch, but everything was spotless.

I would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a luxurious, relaxing, perfect vacation!

Just got back from Rui Palace Mexico and cannot say enough good things. We went with friends and family and we were all very impressed.

Resort - grounds are beautiful and the rooms are roomy, clean and the beds and pillows are exceptional. Bathrooms are a different layout but unless you are travelling with a stranger it is no problem. Shower was large and no shortage of hot water.

Staff - impressive is the word that comes to mind. Friendly, efficient, and helpful at all times. We did not find one person that did not go out of their way to make us happy.

Food - we tried all of the Restaurants and like them all except the Fusion but that is my personal taste not because it was bad. The Mexican was the best. Also went to the buffet 2 nights and we were overwhelmed by the amount and quality of food. I would be astounded if you could not find something delicious and a good variety even if you went there every night. Presentation was professional and creative with ice sculptures highlighted and food art decorating the buffet area. The flower arrangements made from vegetables were amazing!

Beach - beautiful, clean beach with lots of loungers. Bar service on the beach and also a BBQ at lunch if you did not want to leave the beach.

There is also so much to do in the area, the location is centrally located so you are very close to shopping, attractions and sightseeing.

I know some guests complain about the humidity (look at the map - you are in a tropical country), and also about the Internet. Internet worked just fine - I just needed to check email. If you need more than that rethink you priorities - you are on vacation.

Would definitely return to this resort - one week was not enough

Room Tip: Try to get a view of the courtyard.

My husband, son and practically daughter stayed here Nov 10th, thru the 14th, 2013 not nearly long enough! We have stayed at the Cancun Riu Peninsula last year after it opened for the first time,This Riu hotel was newly remodeled, we like new and remodeled!, and love Playa Del Carmen so we tried this Riu,
Although I do like the over all size and layout of the Cancun Palace Peninsula, the grounds here were beyond beautiful and the beach was the best we have ever seen, clean, the water was crystal blue and waves for our son! We even swam at 11.00 pm in the moonlit ocean and it was pure heaven! (Bucket list thing) Food was really good no matter if it was the buffet or the specialty restaurants, The staff there work their rears off! You get to know them and really enjoy seeing them every day, expect to be pulled onto the stage at the nightly show or pulled from your lounger for salsa dancing lessons at the beach or water aerobics! All were really fun and glad we did the activities! All I can say service at the night shows, a tip to your server goes a LONG way, you'll never be without multiple drinks on your table with never ending refills! They would even bring our 13 year old non alcoholic shots so he could participate! Lol! They remember your names and are a blast to be around.
5th street is a 5 minute cab ride and is always fun to go explore and shop. As far as the Riu Palace Hotels, They are worth the extra money you pay, just walk to the other ones down the beach and it is clear. We would defiantly come back here, We have stayed two times at the Grand Velas, which is luxury all the way, but just not a lot to do. Riu Palaces are the best! The people that write negative reviews seriously need to get a life or just stay home and not travel, those reviews are nonsense! We had the BEST time ever!

Room Tip: We paid extra for a courtyard view, highly recommend this. The fountains are beautiful and they shut...
