“Amazing best holiday in years”

What can I say beautiful hotel lovely decor staff who cannot do enough for you . I was there for my birthday and came back the night before it to champagne and chocolate covered strawberries the following night the same but white wine this time. Food was lovely particularly where ever you ate but especially yashima and krystals. The animation staff were superb a fourteen hour day meant nothing to them Ricky is a legend and angle so warm friendly and helpful good luck with your future It's worth saying that two of the crew were fifteen and sixteen but you would never know so professional. The only thing that could be better was the slightly uncomfortable beach sunbeds but with tummy full of excellent food and drinks supplied by the incomparable Santos we are definitely coming back ASAP Thank you for an. Unforgettable holiday

Hotel was brilliant. We had a very quick 5 minute check in and our luggage arrived in the room 2 mins after us.

The room was very spacious and clean and we were sent a fruit basket. The mini bar was full and contained Dos Equis lager, small and large bottles of water, Pepsi, Pepsi light and other mixers. We had 4 bottles of premium branded spirits.

The bed was huge and very comfortable. The air conditioning was brilliant and could be left on all of the time as long as the balcony doors remained shut.

The buffet was themed 7 nights a week and the food in there was fit for a king. The choice for starters main and dessert was extensive. The waiters were brilliant and kept your drinks topped up and gave you a hot water lemon bowl if they saw you having something messy like king prawns or crab claws.

I could talk forever on the buffet food but I won't do. It was just outstanding and I have never seen a breakfast like it.

We booked into all of the restaurants and I liked them all. My favourite was the Japanese that I was reluctant to try. The steak house was very good and the lobster served with the steak was perfect. We had no problems booking into them and we never queued up to book.

The evening entertainment from what I saw was very good but I only sat and watched on 4 occasions out of 14 nights as I had to retire to the bedroom in a food coma.

The lobby bar was open from 10am to 7am and was great for pre dinner drinks. They had a wide variety of premium branded drinks such as Bacardi anejo, bacardi superior, Smirnoff red label, finladia vodka, absolut vanilla vodka plus other flavours. They had Jose Cuervo and mezcal tequilla and were more than happy to make up shots to people's specifications I.e B52's, lemon drops. They had Kahlua, beefeater gin, Jim Bean, Southern Comfort, Pernod blah blah blah.

The cocktails were very good, I particularly liked the mojito buy found the piña colada to be a bit too sweet. Only disappointment was the Caipironhias were made with rum instead of Cachaca.

They served peanuts to us in the lobby bar while sipping our drinks and listening to the piano man playing beauty and the beeeeeeeast! Amazing. Once your bum touches that seat the waiter is there in a flash, two thirds down your glass and they ask what you would like next. Service was brilliant in the lobby bar.

At 10am the pool bar opens and the water volleyball starts. The waiters work their butts off taking orders around the pool and they bring your drink over to you. We meet had a problem getting a sun longer there was always good availability both at the pool and on the beach.

Beach BBQ at lunch time was to die for!! This happened on many occasions. There is a beach bar/hut and they serve drinks to guests on the beach.

Discovered the jacuzzi on the second day- there was never anybody in it wheneer we went over and it was so strong it pushed you around. It was fun!

The whole holiday was brilliant. There is so much more to say but so little time. You will not be disappointed. Stay here if you have chance!

What a great Stay!!! Amazing Hotel, Staff and city.

Travelled for one week on the end of March with first choice. Had such a good experience with first choice representatives.

Hotel was great, very calm and clean nice rooms, amazing food and activities. Beach was lovely, plenty of space for everybody.

Buffet amazing, lots of variety, staff really nice always ready to replace you glass when empty.

Playa del Carmen is amazing. You have a lot to do. Me and my husband did excursions to Chichen Itza, swam in a cenote Yokdzonot in Yucatan, lunched with a mexican family and visit the city of Izamal in Yucantan.

Our lifetime experience: swam with dolphins at Dolphin Discovery at Riviera Maya and did the trainer for life program with first choice. I advise everybody to do it, because you dont just swim with dolphins but you learn how they live and how they are trained, etc.

If you want to buy souvenirs don´t buy in the Hotel because is much more expensive. Go to 5th Avenue in Playa del Carmen and you have a huge variety of shops where you can buy gifts with really nice deals.

The rooms were cleaned everyday. The pool and the pool bar were great. The drinks are really good.

We would go back to Riu Palace Mexico and to Playa del Carmen, because our stay was great and there is so much to do, one or two weeks are not enough to do all the amazing excursions...

I am not one for writing reviews but I felt it only right to do so for this hotel as we love it so much we have stayed here 12 times! Everything about it is great, the accommodation, the public areas, the food, the location but the best thing about the hotel is the staff. They are all superb, friendly and cannot do enough to ensure you enjoy your trip. Many of the staff have been there several years and as regular guest we are greeted like family members. There was a new sub director this year, Fermin Gual, and like his predecessor, Katy Black, he made sure that our stay was one to remember. One small complaint, not directed at the hotel but Riu, is Riu need to update the menus in the speciality restaurants more often - repeat guests don't want repeat meals year on year. Can't wait to go back in June next year for our usual 2 week break.

Room Tip: Ask for an inward facing room if you like to watch the we'd go by.

We went to the Riu Palace Mexico for 3 weeks for my wife's 50 birthday; from the last week of July, until the middle of August.
As most people have said our experience of this hotel was excellent.
We have been to a few Riu hotels around europe, so had a idea of how the hotel would operate. At the hotel Thomson/First Choice have a very low profile. The rep Hector ( very nice and helpful ) only comes in for 1 hour in the morning for the welcome meetings and 1 hour in the afternoon for trips , problems etc, You only have a small mini bus to take you from the airport as not many people from the UK go to the Palace , on average 50 people a week.

We had a great time and thought the hotel was very nice. Most people have said the staff are good, and we found this was the case> We found everyone was very happy to see you, especially Jesus who worked around the pool, always happy and hard working.
The meals was typical Riu so was very good,

The grounds were in fantasic condition making you feel you are in a special place.
We did check out all the surrounding hotels and liked ours the best; the other Palace was newer but felt much busier, especialy around the pool.

Loved the sea - although we spent much of our time around the pool.
One tip - if you want to go snorkelling, walk out of the hotel down to the beach and turn right , keep walking past all the hotels so you only have jungle next to the beach, takes about 20 mins.Water is crystal clear here and only a few people around, you will see plenty of fish, plus a few pelicans diving in the water.

Weather wise we hardly saw a cloud in the first week, second week sun cloud and rain, third week had a storm for a few days so had a bit of everything, always hot though.

The hotel is being renovated through until December. All the rooms are being updated. We went and had a look at a sample room.looked modern. Open plan; the bath is right next to the bed!! The staff told us the hotel wants to attract a younger clientle.
Anyway we had a great time, found the hotel great quality , the staff fantasic and would love to come back

My husband & I stayed at the Riu Palace Mexico from 4th - 18th August and this hotel was amazing. 9 years prior we had stayed in the Riu tequila (just across the road) and were very impressed with the Riu hotel experience and to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary we decided to book the Riu Palace Mexico.
: check in was quick & easy, very laid back but also welcoming & luggage taken to room by bell boy
: room - I expected it to be dated but was very pleasantly surprised. It was spacious and spotless, lots of room for clothing & fabulous mini bar
: food - we walked into the buffet restaurant on our first night, tired after a 10 hr flight, and greeted by superbly welcoming staff and amazing smells! The food was simply fantastic, so fresh, so tasty & such a great choice! Breakfast was my favourite! The service was simply amazing. We visited the 4 a'l carte restaurant several times the japanese being my husbands favourite but we were impressed with all and had no problem booking
: pool/beach - stunning and spotless. The waiter service was an added bonus!
: overall - we did have high expectations for this hotel and it truly lived up to those expectations. The service / staff were so polite, so friendly, so professional they made it a pleasure to stay in this hotel. The free 90 min wifi in reception was an added bonus & handy for communication at home. Dispute the cost we want to go back to this hotel next year - we have travelled to many countries in the Caribbean & other parts of the world & we have stayed in some excellent hotels but this truly was amazing and I hope the refurb of this hotel doesn't take away it's charm because to Riu Palace Mexico is a fabulous hotel, with excellent service, fabulous food & drinks, spotless throughout and we cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.
