“Royal service, Fantastic vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2012

My wife and I are celebrating our 21st anniversary and chose the royal service la perla after spending months researching on the web. We have tried other resorts in the area the last 6 years and this is by far the best. We are still here, but needed to tell the world how amazing chef Felipe Q's food was in the restaurant Fuego. Presentation, freshness and variety were amazing! Manager Gabriel Ortega and our server, Oscar, treated us to a sampling of every dish on the menu! Don't miss Fuego! Our butler, Luisa, is also amazing. Many thanks....and we still have 5 more days in paradise.

Room Tip: Pay for the royal service and get a swim up room.

After spending a few days at the MUCH smaller, intimate Blue Diamond, it was a shock to go to such a HUGE resort but there is an economy of scale that allowed for much more extensive eating opportunities and they were all very good! We had Royal Service so we got to eat breakfast at the Palapa (is that how you spell it?) which was far superior to the fare at the other places where everyone else ate. Our personal concierge was fantastic and made sure we had everything we needed!!! I have never stayed at a place with a pillow menu and had to look it up to see what it was (kind of pillow, feather, fiber, lavender smell or something else). We had our first dinner at Fuego. The food was truely delicious! No bill, eat anything, fine wine. Welcome to the world of all inclusive.
The highlight of the trip was an 8 course sample meal with 8 wines at Passion. For this there was an extra change, but how often do you get to eat at a place with a 7 Star Michelin Chef? (Martin Berasategui) It was unlike anything I have ever eaten!
Each day with took a dance class with a wonderful teacher. We did a flower arranging class too. But we had limited interactions with the other patrons. When you have thousands of people staying in a big resort, you are not going to have the same opportunity to interact as in smaller more intimate places. I can't say enough good things about the staff and food. Our room was really lovely and overlooked the sea. Unfortunately it also overlooked a busy pool with noisy guests but again, a large resort is going to have all kinds of people and not necessarily the most sophisticated, quiet types. But for foodies who prefer to stay inside a resort as opposed to going out into town, this place is a very good value.

Dear guest,

We appreciate the time you took to write your experience at Paradisus La Perla – Royal Service just to share with us and with future Paradisus visitors the amazing time you spent at the Mexican Caribbean.

By your review, we can see you are a person with special interest in fine gastronomy accompanied with great international wines, where quality is considered better than quantity. That is why your culinary experience with us was superb at “Passion by Martin Berasategui”. As you stated, sometimes it is difficult to have the opportunity to dine at a restaurant with a 7 Michelin star chef. We are glad you were delighted by the service in it and of course in the rest of our specialty restaurants.

It is true Paradisus is a big resort, but the public areas are big enough so it does not feel crowded even when we have high occupancy.

If you want to have another magical culinary experience while you are on vacations, remember to select for a second time Paradisus La Perla.

My husband and I stayed at the hotel in the Royal Service Area. The staff is amazing! Arturo hosted the bar and pool area and catered to your every need. He was amazing. Another staff member that was great was Elenit, she made sure we had everything we needed. The rooms were amazing and always clean and organized. However, the doors slam, and I mean SLAM! This was a problem late at night and early in the morning.
The restaurants were great, Carlos in Hada always had a smile on his face even at 6:30 am! The best meals were at the La Palapa and Bana.
The beach was quite and very comfortable however the water was rocky, but just 20 yards and you were in a nice area for relaxing. We were hoping to snorkel off the beach but due to limited safe areas this was not possible. That was a bummer! The resort does have an aqua center but the snorkel trips were extra without a lot of extras.
If you plan to book any tours away from the at the resort ask a lot of questions. The information was not always correct.

Room Tip: The rooms could be ocean view without being close to the beach. Ask for Ocean Front for an upgrade i...

Of all the resorts that i enjoyed in the Cancun area, this was the best.

From the atmosphere to the delicious food - all around this is a wonderful resort. I always get a car in Mexico and get anxious to go out from the resort and "do something". This was the first time my car sat in the parking lot. It was so nice and relaxful to stay at the resort and spend the day. Day after Day - it was great.

The resort is very close to Playa Del Carmen - you can walk to town or take a cab. $10 is well worth it on a hot day. Rental car is not needed. There is plenty of parking at the resort should you wish to get a car.

The room was fabulous! 2 Jacuzzi, 2 shows, 3 bathroom sinks, large balcony over looking the pool and ocean. It was very comfortable. 2 flat panel TVs in the room - but i did not use them; whats a vacation with the TV on???

All the restaurants have delicious food. Their selection of beef, fish is with an eye for selecting the best for their guests. some all inclusive resorts cut corners and dont have much of the "expensive" foods; however caviar is available at the breakfast buffet. There is a wide variety of selection meeting everyone's needs. Vegetarian or Carnivore alike there is food for everyone and a vast variety of styles, Italian, French, Brazilian, Japanese, Mexican ( it is Mexico after all! )

Drinks flow freely all day and all night - there are bars available all around the resort to provide you with a cold beverage. And if your feeling too relaxed to get up - someone will happily wait on your needs with a smile.

Yes, the staff is very friendly. Absolutely everyone working here has a background in hospitality ( no rookies ) and it shows. They will attend to your each and every need.

The spa is also delightful, yes - in Playa its less expensive... But the point is to be relaxed and feel great. The resorts spa is just that. Clean, relaxful and well worth it. Be sure to come well before your appointment as there is much to enjoy prior to and after your treatment(s).

Many of the resorts along the Rivia Maya coast have beaches that are not usable due to rocks and unsafe waters. Some resorts have tried to make them usable and well it does not work. At Paradisus the beach is natural sand. The waters are swim-able. They are quit pleasant! I enjoyed swims many a days. The wathers are clam enough to snorkel however I would recommend a tour that will take you to a reef or somewhere with more to see.

This is a great place to stay, if it is your first time in Mexico or you have been to Mexico many times. You will not be disappointed!

Enjoy your Trip!

Room Tip: Be very kind at check in! The person behind the counter has the ability to upgrade you!

It is said that you only turn 50 once! Started months ago planning my 50th Birthday trip and like many of you, I read thousands of reviews posted on this website. Overlooked La Perla many times as did not have many reviews. Was going to book what I thought would be my best choice but was full so gave La Perla some serious attention. Booked La Perla based on the reviews here and that it was new. AWESOME DECISION!

My 50th Birthday vacation to La Perla was the most awesome vacation I have had since childhood! Visited 4/13 thru 4/17. All of the great things you read about La Perla are true and here's my spin on everything:

Serivce: The Service provided by the entire staff was excellent. Chose Royal Service and our butler Eleni and entire butler staff were great. Every employee we interacted with was friendly, helpful, and spoke good english.

Food: Food? Simply Awesome! Best food have ever had at ANY resort! A big thing to note here: Over the past two years I had slimmed down over 80 lbs and was concerened about getting healthy food options. No worries at La Perla! Every resturant had healthy options and in many cases, cooked our food in a more healthy way, ie, the Japanese resturant left the butter out of our food. The best? Laplapa in the Royal Service area! They custom cooked a very nice chicken/veggie soup for us and was awesome. The other resturants we tried were The Market, Bana, Fuego, Naos, and Vento and all were marvelous!

Facility: The ENTIRE place is beautiful! So neat, clean, and always smells good! The spa was best ever been to at any resort! Try the "Water Ritual" at the spa! Another awesome place is the Fitness Center! Best I have ever seen in ANY resort! Have classes and Spinning! Hot tip for Spinners: The bikes do have SPD equipped pedals!

The Bottom Line: The best resort vacation I have ever had! I totally suggest doing the Royal Service!

A Note: A more recent review said that the Jetskis were left running in the center of the beach area. Not so now! For sure all the way at end and only running when rented!

Room Tip: Any room in the Royal Service section would be a great choice!

My husband and I went to Paradisus with my parents to celebrate their 60th anniversary. We stayed in the Royal section with swim-up rooms. As another reviewer stated the pictures on the site do not depict the Royal section swim-ups they do not have the built in lounges, we were disappointed at first but once we sat in one in the main pool we no longer cared as they were uncomfortable. Beware they have a lot of marble flooring in this resort and they are very slippery we saw more than one person fall.

The staff was the best of any resort we have been to, each and every employee went out of their way to ensure you had everything you could want or need. There are a few notables, namely Aruturo at the Royal Service pool he was fantastic, he was so proud and felt responsible for the entire section he felt like it was his to care for and it showed. He never stopped moving always with a smile and a kind word. Karen our butler was a pleasure, she stopped by each day and would have a recommendation for dinner and our beverages of our choice in our room. Diego in La Palapa remembered your name and preferences also always with a smile. Nadia the chef in La Palapa was so sweet she went out of her and treated us to both a special dinner and lunch, she is such a nice person and great chef.

The food was good to very good the best of any AI we have been to. The mixed drinks were just not that good and it's the mixers not the quality of alcohol, the mixers tasted artificial and overly sweet even the margaritas were yucky. The bartenders tried but without quality mixers it' hard to make good drinks. Victor is a great bartender but he needs proper and quality mixers even Oasis mixers are better.

Oh, the music often it was just bad thumping elevator remix music. It is so loud at the Sunset grill you can't carry on a conversation. There is a lack of warmth at the resort,it's not the people (guests or employees)and it's difficult to put your finger on maybe it's just so much modern concrete architecture, young gardens and the enormous size of the resort.

We were blown away with this hotel from the moment we got out of the cab! So beautiful! The staff was welcoming and helpful. The rooms were spacious and well appointed. The pool entertainment was so fun. Truly a fantastic trip! I will come back with my significant other next time though. The resort was mostly couples.

Room Tip: The elevator didn't work when we arrived and it stunk so get a room on the ground. The pool sui...
