My husband & I just arrived from Playa Del Carmen. I was very concerned after reading all of the bad reviews, just like everyone else. Any thing bad that could happen, did happen to us. With the language barrier, it made it very difficult communicating(or they chose to not understand)We, too, were put accross the street in to the "New" hotel (we booked in the Gran Porto Real resort). After traveling all day, we were looking forward to turning in early (9:30 pm)..only to hearing the sounds of hammers right outside our door. Not only the hammering, but our room faced the parking lot, which you could hear the buses and taxis constantly drving by. In the a.m we were woke up at 6:15 am..more hammering, jackhammers, tour buses (diesel)..a few nights my husband and I could not even carry on a conversation because it was so loud. When we tried to switch, we really got the run around..whoever barks the loudest, gets what they want..we chose not to spend our vacation in office complaining. We took our vacation to get away from stress not to add to it, which is what happenend at this resort! My brother stayed at the Gala Resort down the road. Very nice and quiet. Our next visit would be to this resort. No bracelets, lots of entertainment and very good food..Also, you did not have to wake up at 6:00 am to get a chair to sit on the beach..Iwould not recommend the Gran Porto Real resort to my worst enemy...

I was just at the Grand Porto Real on the 28Jan to the 04Fe05. It was great I loved the area and the hotel was excellent. We did get a suite and our fridge was always refilled with beer, water and pop. Very clean room. Location, food and service was the best. The Italian Restaurant is a must try. We had a birthday during or time there and they even decorated a whole cake and put her name on it for our group of 12. I do believe you have to go all-Inclusive it a great value. The Mexican's do make sure you a have a good stay, they are very pleasant. Being in Playa del Carmen was very good we could go to 5th Avenue anytime. I was pleasantly surprised on how many shops there was. I am a Travel Agent and I would recommend this property to anyone.

We stayed 7 days at the Gran Porto Real Resort, and it was wonderful. There was a total of 7 of us, and we booked 3 rooms. It took us about 45 minutes from the airport to arrive, and it took about 20 minutes to get checked into the resort and our bags brought to our room. We got a jr. suite room, and it was great, I would recommend the upgrade to the jr. suite room. The room was so roomy and the bathroom was the biggest I have ever seen. They placed us on the first floor, I requested a third floor room when we arrived, but none available. They told me to come back the next day at 9:00 am to see what was available, but we liked what we had, so we stayed on first floor facing the street. The beach was wonderful, exactly what we wanted. Lots of beach, beach chairs and the swimming was awesome. We did not go all-inclusive, which worked out well for us because we like to hop around for dinner in the evening. We hung around the resort all day on our lounge chairs, had drinks brought to us, the service was perfect. We did need to wear the wrist bands, but there was no other way to have it done, everything was charged to our room so it was very convenient. We noticed no different service from all-inclusive to not all-inclusive. There was construction going on with the sister hotel across the street, but did not bother us whatsoever.......they have along way to go to finish... I would definitely stay here again, and I would recommend this resort to anybody, it was perfect!!!

Awesome! We were also skeptical after reading the reviews but decided to go with an open mind and take things as they came. Well, I was pleasantly surprised everything went smoothly we didnt have a problem with the check in and our rooms were right across from the construction and that wasnt a problem either. The bar service was outstanding thanks Jorge and Pablo! The food was really good, espically the Italian restaurant - great presentation guys! Finding a chair wasnt as hard as everyone makes it sound you may have to walk and look a bit, but you can always find one, and then just move to where you would like. The best thing was the entertainment crew - they kept the kids and adults busy all day and then went out of their way to take guests out at night. A big thanks to Rueben, Luis and the gang you were awesome and you made the trip extra special!

I would not hestitate to go to this hotel again. I loved it, the rooms were beautiful and very clean. The service was superb and we had a great holiday.....
