“It is that hole in a wall place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2014

Just to start, a few highly rated restaurants on TripAdvisor are no longer open. I ran into that issue, so based on a quick map recon and reviews scrub on TripAdvisor, la Portena was nearby. It is essentially a food shack with only bar seating for 5 or so people. My bar table was nicely situated right in front of the kitchen sink. The restaurant cooks it's meat on a charcoal fire place. I had the short rib, my wife had the chicken, all plated. They also give you the torta option, aka as a sandwich. The short ribs were some of the best I have had. Tender, flavorful, and fresh. My wife's chicken was equally impressive. Juicy on the inside, lightly crisp on the outside, while being an explosion of flavors. They serve it with baked potatoes and my lord, I didn't know potatoes can be that good. We'll roasted, try go excellent with the hot sauce and chimichurri they give you. The whole meal ran me about 250 pesos. This is a can not miss!

“Great place for take out or eat there with stool at bar ”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2014

Note: as of this date the address is correct but the directions are not. Also the owners operate two restaurants from the same location. In the mornings you will find tacos with two cooks and from 5 pm to 1 am you will find La Porteña! If you want argentinean asado then go after 5 pm. We ate 3 times and loved talking with the cook, the fresh salad, delicious lemon chicken and potato with chimichurri. Choripan was Aldo excellent. We noticed many people placing an order, leaving then picking up the food 20 minutes later for take out. Enjoy!

“One of my favorite spots in the city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

Ironically one of the earlier reviews which typo'd "open until 1pm" sums up the hours of La Portena, they can be quite erratic. However it's well worth it when you can find them open. Everything they sell is excellent, I've never had a bad meal there (and I've had quite a few!). I highly recommend eating here if you get a chance, or at least picking up takeaway.

“Don't miss ”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2014

Although there is not real seating, don't miss this place. Kind of resembles a shack on a side street, but the meat was delicious and cheap. Service was friendly and made for one of the best stops of the night. Open until 1 pm and makes for a great late light snack. Don't miss out.
