“A room with a view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

Excellent setting, beautiful private beach owned by the hotel and nice swimming pool also suitable for young children (smaller pool). Each room on the groundfloor has is own patio with direct access to the beach and beautiful view. Comfortable big rooms with fridge, good airconditioning, and a safe. Wifi in the room. Really nice to be there if you want to avoid crowded beaches and the madness of mass tourism in playa del carmen. The restaurant is ok for breakfast, lunch or dinner but the choices are limited. Big supermarket a few km away in Puerto Aventuras. 15 km from Akumal Bay (playa, turtles, bars and restaurants). We enjoyed staying in Paamul very much. Recommended.

We stayed here feb 2014 rented master suite had a great time. wanting to rent for feb 2015 was informed by hotel. master suite no longer gets rented out ( thats what I got out of the e-mail from the hotel yesterday). Also you cant rent a regular room without having the breakfast plan included which raised the price quite a bit 175.00 a night. We are not breakfast people not a good deal for us. My family was really looking forward to making this a yearly vacation looks like I will have to find a different hotel.

Paamul Hotel was an experience on its own. Uncrowded beaches for miles. Oceanfront room just a step from our room. The deck is wonderful with comfortable seating and lounge chairs. Our room had a small fridg and micro, small counter and sink. Nice closet and safe. Also ample drawers for your belongings. Beds were very comfy with wonderful linens. Nice bathroom which always had hot water and fresh towels daily. Air conditioning works well. Sliding doors with screens. Our room was cleaned immaculately every day. It is situated perfectly in a cove with a reef at swimming distance, including tidepools. We chose Paamul because it has an excellent dive shop steps away. No hassles. Security at the hotel is A-1. It is 15 minutes from Playa del Carmen if you need anything. The owners really care about your stay and go out of their way to welcome you. Paamul Hotel is situated by a trailer park which the owners take great pride to decorate palapa style with gardens. No pavement, all sand. Totally amazing what can be done with a little ingenuity. We did not rent a car, but there is no hassle getting a cab--ever. Check in? We went straight to our rooms. Check out--just left. The restaurant could see a lot of improvements. Breakfast was included daily. A couple evenings, we had outstanding fish dinners which had just been brought in. Steak dinners were very good. Meals did not were not good overall. There should be supervision at the restaurant. Daily specials might be a good idea for a change. The restaurant is oceanfront and relaxing. It would help to have small bbq/stove with your room. There is a very small convenience store at the main road leading to the hotel. Best get supplies at Playa del Carmen. This is a very laid-back hotel with no blaring music and lively crowds. Just enjoy the iguanas, butterflies, birds and the sea. I only give four stars due to the restaurant.

Room Tip: Stay in the hotel rooms instead of cabanas for comfort. Rooms at lower levels lead straight to beac...

We have been to Cancun where we booked an all-inclusive hotel. This time, we wanted to try something different. I got to know Paamul from other reviewers here in Tripadvisor. If you really want to get close to the water without paying the price of an all-inclusive hotel, this is the place to go! It's nice to sleep with the sound of the water and wake up with the view. The only downside for us is finding places where to eat since the food in their restaurant is pricey.

Where to begin. My girlfriend and I wanted a much needed getaway to paradise during Minnesota's worst winter ever. We sure found it! We have been to Playa Del Carmen before and love it, but we wanted to try something different this time. We wanted the fun busy city of Playa for shopping, etc. during the day, but then we wanted to retreat to a quiet, romantic, more private spot at night. Paamul was the perfect combination.

Our room was great. Spacious and had everything we needed. We LOVED the big balcony that looked out over the gorgeous private resort beach. Every night when we returned to our room, a few towels were folded up origami style like a swan. So thoughtful.

They provided big bottles of bottled water, I was able to request an iron and ironing board from the Office, there was a fridge, microwave, etc.

Some days we headed into Playa Del Carmen for shopping, lunch, the beach ("Mamitas" Beach), a night out, etc. But other days, the sandy beach right at Paamul was so beautiful and quiet, we felt no need to go anywhere else. The food at the resort's restaurant is top notch! We ate a lot of meals there and the staff was great. In fact all of the staff was very nice and helpful. The Office, the room cleaners, the waiters.

We enjoyed many a romantic night there. We strolled down the long road to where it meets the highway to buy some snacks and wine and then enjoyed candlelit nights out on our balcony sipping the wine and listening to the waves.

We enjoyed it so much, that we are actually going back soon for another short getaway, and we are going to stay in one of their cool, rustic and charming cabanas. I think they are called "Eco Cabanas". cool little one-room (+bathroom) beach shacks that are just mere feet from the shore.

So if you want the close proximity to the shops, crowds and nightlife, but then have the huge bonus of a cozy retreat on a beautiful private beach with a gorgeous view, then definitely try the area's best kept secret. It was the perfect combination. We absolutely loved it.

Room Tip: Each hotel room has its own patio/balcony with comfy cushioned built-in couches and some chairs. If...

We spent there one night on our way to playa del carmen. We had our tent and went there to camp. This establishment doesn't really have a camping area; this is a trailer park. After asking several times if they'd have a bit of grass to sleep on, they kindly showed us some kind of parking next to a sewer were we could camp; no grass and it smelled bad. We finally camped between trailers on hard ground and had to move our tent because the security man didn't allow us to switch of a light! CAMPERS, DON'T GO THERE.

If you are looking for a real mexican place, then this is definitely not the place to go (it's full of americans)

Room Tip: don't camp there!

This was our second stay at Paamul Hotel & Cabanas and it was awesome - we were not disappointed. We stayed in an upstairs master suite that was charming with it’s gauzy, white draperies over the bed . . . add the sound of the ocean and it was very romantic. The bathroom was attractive and modern and the coffee maker and small refrigerator were nice additions (we stopped off at the little market just off the highway at the entrance to Paamul for soda, beer & munchies.) My favorite spot was the comfy padded bench on the balcony – relaxing with a good book, a cold beer and an awesome ocean view . . . doesn’t get much better. The room was very clean. Check in was fast and easy, the staff very friendly and accommodating.
There was no reason for us to leave Paamul once we arrived. We loved the restaurant at Paamul. Wherever you sit you have an ocean view. The food is good and the waiters, Enrique and Martin, were friends by the time we left. My favorite breakfast was the Caribbean scramble with a bloody mary. There are palapas on the beach as well as lounge chairs around the fresh water pool. The pool area and beach were very clean and attractive. My husband went diving with Scuba Mex several times and had a great time. Very friendly, fun people.
Paamul is a quaint, lovely place to experience a different side of the Mexican Riviera. There aren’t any big all-inclusive hotels with lots of people here. Instead it is a quiet, laid back place to relax and enjoy the beauty around you. I would have liked to stayed longer and will definitely return to Paamul Hotel & Cabanas.
