“Wonderful Times”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

Though this was not the first time at Playacar Palace, it was just as wonderful as the last. The Staff, food and room were excellent. Sometimes one expects the best and is rewarded with more than they expect.
There was perfect weather, excellent food, great drinks and best of all wonderful people. So our stay at Playacar Palace was perfect. There were so many staff people who went out of their way to be helpful and pleasant. They are the heart and soul of this resort and it's biggest asset. I would return in a heartbeat because of their wonderful treatment.
If you cannot find a place that is just right for you try Playacar Palace.

Had a great time at Playacar Palace, it was recommended to us by some family friends that always stay at Palace Resorts. Food and service was awesome. Even my husband who is a picky eater enjoyed most of the food he especially loved the flank steak at the lunch buffet. The sushi at MoMoNoHana was great. We enjoyed a couples massage at the Spa which was very nice! The Luna Lounge is a great place to hang out at night which we did almost every night mainly because of Angel German the bartender. He was the best! Great service, always smiling, and friendly. We enjoyed many conversations with him while we were trying to learn about the hotel and the playacar area as well as Spanish culture. It was my first trip to Mexico and Playacar Palace made it awesome!

For a split second, I thought of not writing a review about my stay at Playacar Palace. Only because I wanted to keep this fabulous gem to myself. This is truly the best kept secret of the Palace Resorts brand. We have been members of Palace for several years, but had never ventured to try this resort until now, which I regret immensely.

We were welcomed warmly by the luggage attendant with cold scented towels and immediately directed to check in. Our room was not available immediately, but no problem: We received our bracelets and were invited to go for lunch while we waited. Within 20 minutes, staff came to find us to advise that our room was ready, whenever we were. Well the wait was sure worth it, as our room was oceanfront on the fourth floor. (Note that sometimes they want you to wait, because they know that a better room is about to free up- complaining that your room is not ready on arrival can play against you) Beautiful views, nice breeze and the sound of the waves. The room balcony was oversized and had two loungers, two chairs and table and we still had room. Within minutes of being in our room, we received a phone call from the GM Snr. David Rubio, to ensure we were satisfied with the room placement. Now that is attention at its best. We were impressed.

Food: All food at the restaurant was exceptional and plentiful in selection and amount. Of the 3 restaurants, La Terraza was our favorite, with an assortment of Italian dishes (not only pasta). One night they made fresh pasta right to order and another night we were entertained by a wonderful violinist. The Japanese restaurant was fantastic too, with a choice of Teppanayaki tables or a la carte serving. Even the Buffet restaurant, Café Del Mar had succulent food to please everyone. We also enjoyed the Chef’s dinner with a very nice menu, and they also went out of their way to accommodate any allergies. The service at all restaurants was IMPECCABLE. We would like to personally thank the following: Donocio our waiter at Café Del Mar, who every morning welcomed me with a café latte and a specially made juice. He was a pleasure to visit with and treated us like royalty. Gilbert at LaTerraza provided great attention to our special menu and Jazz entertained us with succulent Mayan coffees. The extra attention to details that those two put into their work is wonderful. Also at La Terraza, we had the pleasure to meet Cesar Alonzo. What a gem he is, funny, courteous and so knowledgeable of his work. We also had the pleasure of attending a private moonlit dinner with fellow travellers and it was beyond our expectation. When it comes to food service, this place knows what it takes and delivers. This is not a resort that serves generic All inclusive Buffet food… it is a gastronomic heaven.

Bar/ Entertainment: Beach service was prompt, frequent and accurate 100% of the time. We had no issue getting drinks served by Viviana. 
In the evenings, we had lots of great times in the newly renovated Luna Lounge ( The new décor is fabulous and warm). They had various entertainment each night to cater to various tastes (karaoke, reggae, singers, dance, DJ, etc). The service at the Luna Lounge was impeccable and quick. Norma does a great job at keeping your drinks full. For a more quiet atmosphere, the Cielo lounge was perfect to enjoy a drink and chat with friends. Each night had a special show either by the pool side or other various locations around the resort. All were well advertised on an electronic board in the lobby and with posters in elevators.

Rooms: The rooms are well appointed and spacious. The décor is white and calming, a very tropical luxurious feel to them. The Jacuzzi in our room was located in the bathroom with a window to the ocean, which we preferred to the ones in room, this was great. Housekeeping was outstanding in keeping the room clean and well supplied. We never had to ask for anything and often were asked by the staff if we needed anything else.

SPA: Well, the newly added spa is second to none. If you have stayed at Playacar before the spa was on site, you need to go back. The atmosphere is very calming and warm with a great combination of warm woods, rock and dimmed lighting (not a sterile cold environment like some spa). The massage tables are adjustable to your body, so no need for rolled towels under the legs, etc.
The Hydrotherapy is an experience on its own and you should arrive at least an hour and a half before your treatment to enjoy everything. Guadelupe and Maurimar were fabulous hydrotherapy attendants and took the time to explain everything without being asked. This is great if it is your first time in a spa and if you are intimidated with not knowing what to do. I had 4 fabulous massages while there, with 4 difference therapists.. All were outstanding (Diana, Virginia and 2 others I can’t recall their names, sorry).
I also had a mani/pedi at the salon, which is also very intimate. Thank you Nayarit for the care you provided and the wonderful conversation, allowing me to practice my somewhat broken Spanish

All in all this is a great resort, close to everything (shopping and fabulous fares on 5th Avenue, ferry to Cozumel for a day visit, Soft sand Beach and clear blue ocean, snorkelling, etc). It is also a very good location, if you are tempted to step out a bit and visit some great local restaurants and cafes... off the main road. We had a great Lunch at a little Vegan restaurant/café called La Senda.

I have read some travellers complain on here that the resort is in serious need of upgrades. Of course all hotels need maintenance due to high volume of travellers. Well they are working at it on a regular basis as we saw many rooms being worked on, but the work itself was not obtrusive as they kept things quiet and worked on a few rooms at the time.. I know that there are more plan of new addition/remodels in the works for the near future, which I think will be grandiose.. and I can’t wait to go back to see it all..
Thank you Mr. Rubio for being such a leader to your team. They love to be there and it shows in their actions and smiles…. See you very soon.

I just wanted to write a brief review about the Playacar Palace Resort in Playa Del Carmen.
We have been to many resort chains over the years however this chain of resorts, Palace Resorts and in particular this hotel, Playacar Palace, has absolutely the best by far with a personnel staff that is simply amazing.
From the people who greet, the people who cater, and to the people in the spa, they are just incredible. And how they remember you when you return again months or a year later, just in itself is truly something.
I would to make mention a few of their names; Juana Murga Velazquez, Damaris Ibarra Hernandez, César Herrera, Aline Alvarez, Alexander Oliva, Nora, Jesus Gonzales, Miriam, Christina, David Rubio, Chef Oscar Dominguez, and the list goes on and on, I just cannot say enough about these wonderful people. Thank you for making our vacation such a joy.
Kudos to Playacar Palace!

We thought we would add a night or two to our 10-day visit to Mexico. We stopped at the Playacar Palace for lunch and a ocean swim. No air conditioning in the restaurant. Flies covered most of the food. Service was almost nonexistent. We got our drinks after we ate our main dish. The rest rooms smelled (no toilet paper) and most of the lights were burned out. Go to the Moon Palace or the Cozumel Palace they are an 11 on the scale of 10! The Playacar needs new management and a good house cleaning. Memo: they need a new name...hotel 6... they are not the Palace quality.

This was our first visit to Playacar Palace and we were pleasantly pleased. We have been members of the Palace resorts for more than 10 years and expected friendly, competent service; no disappointment there. Our concierge, Ivet Patiño, made everything about our stay smooth. There are three restaurants and our favorite was the Italian (La Terraza) where the food was great. Each evening there was a chef making fresh pasta right there in the dinning room. The complete menu is changed mid-week so there were more choices to try than we could do in our one week stay. The restaurant manger, Sr. Jazz. kept a close eye that everything was timely and we were pleased with our selections, Waiters Pedro and Cesar Alonaso were excellent and attentive.
One of the reasons for choosing Playacar Palace was we had heard they had a new SPA and do they ever. It was beautiful and relaxing and if I can do it I will attach some pictures. The receptionist, Adriana, was pleasant and remembered our names after the first visit. The spa butlers, Rosa & Darin, moved us along and got us to the right places at the right time, explaining the hydro therapy and keeping us in clean dry towels.
The pools were great as was the clean, sandy beach. There was a gentle slope of the beach into the water. The resort is next to Playa Del Carmen's modern shopping area as well as the ferry to Cozumel.

Room Tip: I recommend paying for an upgrade to a concierge room. You may use resort credit for this.

Being both my first visit to Playa Del Carmen and my first stay at an All-Inclusive resort, everything was a new experience for me. We stayed at the Playacar Palace for some good friends' wedding. I had heard great things and expected everything to be nice and easy. Who knew that it was possible to be so blown away at arrival!?

We arrived on a Thursday evening by a private driver and from the moment we stepped out of the car, the service was all around. 5-star. Our bags were taken to our room and check-in was painless. We were initially concerned that we would have trouble finding our other friends around the resort but the layout of this place makes it easy. All the bars, dining, and services are centrally located between the front lobby and the pool areas. We found several of our friends immediately.

After our initial hellos, we went to check out our incredible room. The room was absolutely immaculate with travertine floors, fresh linens, a huge jacuzzi tub, a spacious bathroom, and a giant king bed. To top it all off, it came with a spacious balcony, just hovering over the white sandy beach. I'd go as far as to say this was my favorite hotel room I've ever stayed in. The room was stocked with premium drinks, water bottles, snacks, and CHI toiletries. And to boot, they were generous with the large, fluffy towels and we did every have to ask for fresh towels as they were refreshed daily.

The food options here are definitely not one to disappoint. The Cafe Del Mar buffet was the most popular option as it was open from 6 am to 11pm. It was the cleanest, gourmet buffet I've seen. There is also the hibachi and Italian restaurant which were excellent as well. I'd say I enjoyed the Italian (La Terrazza) restaurant the most. Room service was available 24 hours as well but we only ordered it once for a quick snack and coffee. On the adult beverage front, everything excellent as well. Rooms were well stocked but the hotel bars were open until 1 AM. Room service would bring anything your like by request 24/7. I especially enjoyed the pool bar during the day. Premium liquors are served at no additional cost.

If one thing sets Playacar Palace above the rest, it is the service. Everyone here was so warm and we got to know the staff well. They remembered our names, our conversations, and were so personable. When we left, it felt like we were saying Adios to old friends. Fabiola was incredible at the concierge/booking desk and Perla and Francisco were our pals at the lobby bar.

I rarely like to go to the same place twice because I'm always looking for new experiences. But the Playacar Palace was a place so incredible, I can't wait to return again and again!

Room Tip: Splurge on the ocean view room. It's not a huge price difference and it is WELL worth it!
