“Amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

Just got back from an amazing trip from the Playacar Palace! Aline was a great entertainment host!! I wanted to bring her home! Also Gerardo in the lobby bar took such great care of us and always had our drinks ready when he saw us. The food at the Italian restaurant was the best! Everyone was friendly and the food was great! The best beach anywhere. So those of you that have negative things to say must be super picky or just don't know what great service is because I have been a member for 12 years and have never had a problem and have been treated excellent at every resort!! Thanks to all of the staff!!

We stayed 4/9-4/14. believe all you read about the service. Someone always there to assist. not once did we have to look for a waiter, or someone to answer a question. The beach, immaculate, pool, even though on the small side for our tastes, was always clean and had someone to serve us. There have been a few comments about obtaining chairs with umbrella's. Believe most of it, as I had to go down and reserve one with our gear about 7a each morning, then go to breakfast etc. With that, there was never a shortage of loungers. just the umbrellas'. So if you are a late sleeper, and expect to find one available at 10a forget it. For us, we did not spend much time in the room as there is too much going on outside. The food, was excellent. plenty of it and we really liked the fact that we could stay at our beach site, order off a menu and 10 minutes later, there it is. Cannot offer much insight on the rooms, ours was fine, clean and everything worked. Some people said the place was run down, well there are spots along the pool that tile needs replacing, but my drinks were always on time and very well done. Along with the fact that even if I forgot to order one, it magically showed up. There are a few spots on the floors that need some attention, but the waiters always remembered that I liked a certain salsa with my eggs. There was a light bulb out in the room, but the maid knew I liked extra coffee packets. So you see, pick your battles and go with what is important in my opinion.
We were asked to attend the time share meeting, we declined, and that was that. Even though we would see 6-8 in there every morning attending. So some are interested.
As most, we selected this place for its proximity to 5th ave and the ferry. That gave us the option to go downtown, and we did, every night. its like a different circus down there.
We did use some of the 1500 credits, and it is printed in plain English and there for all to see that there is a 11% tax added on that is not covered, We selected the couples massage. 50 minutes each, outstanding, The cost about 259.00 (give or take a few) our portion $28.00, I believe. So absolutely no complaints about two massages for that price.
Over all. this place will pass on a lasting impression as we will be back.
Some also want to compare to the Cozumel Palace. Take a trip there and you will see no comparison, as the Cozumel palace has NO and I mean NO beach. Just a small pool.

Lastly, the positive attitude off all the staff were excellent. They always ended with "My Pleasure"
Thanks again to all there.

Dear jteal

Thank you very much for review and all the members of the Playacar Family really appreciate it. We know how important a holiday is for a family and we always do our best to create magical and unforgettable experiences. We try to keep a very familiar and intimate concept where our guest can be known be their names and no by their room or rest band number and I feel happy that you felt that experience.

We hope to see you soon and do not hesitate to write me for any questions or request for your next visit.

This is the fourth resort I have stayed at in this area and absolutely the best. The beach is awesome, water a little cold and rough but no rocks and beautiful sandy beach where you can walk for miles. The pool was also great. This is a smaller resort. The food was great but not a lot a variety. The staff could not be better. Service was over the top. The best part is you are right at playa del Carmen for shopping and senior frogs or whatever. You are also right at the ferry to Cozumel. We did go to Cozumel Palace and Moon Palace which are sister resorts and enjoyed both. Transportation is provided to Moon Palace and if you like the party atmosphere this is the place. We also used the resort credits to swim with the dolphins at Moon Palace and visited Tulum Ruins and 50 min massages. You do have to pay tax on these excursions but it is well worth it. The room was nice with large Jacuzzi tub and beds are comfortable and we had ocean front room which we loved. I would definitely recommend this resort and would return again and again.

Room Tip: It looked like most the rooms were ocean view or front. We did ask for a good view and got it. I wou...

Location couldnt be better near 5th and 12th, beside cozumel ferry. Beautiful beach with waves, kite surfing, long walkable. Book a room with a balcony, some don't have balconies. We were vip, nice vip beach chairs with awesome food and bar service. Small enough, not a lot of walking. Saw a wedding on the beach looked beautiful. They do colin cowie weddings. Book with resort credit for spa, tours, upgraded wine, and golf. Great stay, will return!

We just finished spending a week at the Playacar Palace. The hotel was great! The staff greeted us promptly and with that oh so tasty first Pina Colada. The room was clean and spacious and had everything we needed. It was cleaned daily and well stocked. The pool was clean and great for cooling off. We never had a problem finding a chair for the day and always had a fresh drink whenever we needed it. The beach was clean and not too busy. The restaurants were all great! The food was delicious and the staff friendly. Our dinner on the beach was even better! The entertainment was a bit cheesy but we like cheesy so we enjoyed it very much. The karaoke on Saturday night was a ton of fun... although I wish it had lasted longer than an hour and a half.
The bars were all wonderful and had great staff!
The spa was AMAZING! My massage was one of the best I've had and my pedicure was very relaxing.
We didn't have a chance to use all of our resort credits which means there were more than enough for two people.
The location was perfect! Close to 5th Avenue and the Ferry, yet a very small and quiet resort!
We met many new friends and will definitely return!
Thanks so much to everyone at Playacar Palace!

It's difficult to convey in words the warmth of the welcome we received at Playacar Palace. Try to imagine that each of the staff is a family friend who has invited you to their home for the week. I will not mention any names because EVERY single member of staff has that same happy, welcoming smile, with a sincere wish to do everything they can to make your holiday as enjoyable as possible. I wish I could bottle-up that happy vibe and bring it back to England. As well as the excellent service, there's the little extras . Delicious home-made chocolates were brought to our room every day. Our flight delay meant we arrived 3 hours late, so we were given a free room upgrade to a 5th floor room with a beautiful view of the ocean. In the buffet restaurant, if you are feeling under the weather, they would cook you eg chicken and rice to order. Incidentally the picture in the Virgin brochure does not do justice to the poolside/ beach.

Unusually, there is no restriction on how many times you can use the a-la-carte restaurants. The Italian was very popular,so we often had a 30 minute wait for a table, but they give you a buzzer, so you can enjoy a drink in the bar while you wait. There is a huge choice , so you can easily find something different to enjoy every night. Tip: Don't order the steak if you like it well-done.

Personally we found the music in the hotel a little too loud for our tastes, but they seem to cater for the majority of American guests,

Bed chairs: We managed to get a bed-chair every day, but there were always lots of unoccupied bed-chairs with towels on. We even saw one couple who had two lots on the go! The hotel, in an effort to please everyone, do not restrict the use of pool towels or reservation of bed-chairs.

A few other tips:
The alarm clock in the room is also an iPod dock
Don't leave your food unattended on the restaurant terrace- the starlings will pinch it
There was no shower-gel provided, but the shampoo worked just as well.
The beach is safe for non-swimmers, except when a red flag is displayed.
Tipping : take plenty of dollar bills. You will still get star treatment if you don't tip, but it's nice to show appreciation, and the tips are well appreciated

In summary, I would thoroughly recommend this hotel. Full credit to the management for such well-trained and motivated staff

Room Tip: All rooms have are sea-view, but higher floor ones are better

I just got back from a week-long vacation at Playacar Palace (April 6 - 13) with two other friends and would like to share what a wonderful time we had. The staff at this resort is really what makes it so great - and the food is also awesome! Our vacation started by being greeted by our concierge, Ivet and the general manager of the resort, David. We are Palace resort members and are used to being greeted by our concierge, but David's greeting really made us feel that much more special. Ivet was great at giving us all the necessary resort information and in booking spa services and fulfilling other requests. She really does a great job!

Food
- The Italian restaurant was our favorite and our waiter Pedro was great! He made us Banana Foster every time and was a great waiter.
- Our second favorite was the Asian restaurant - Momo No Hana where the chef Darniel gave a really good show (and great food!) and our waiter Victor did an excellent job at waiting on us.
- Breakfast buffet had the usual selection of breakfast food with an omelette station. Again, food was excellent here and thanks to our waiters Jose Rigoberto, Gilbert and Sortero, they made sure our coffee cups were full, dirty dishes taken away and our juice glasses replenished as soon as they were empty.

Bars
- We often found ourselves at the Lobby bar where the two bartenders Gerardo and Gaspar made us wonderful drinks and shared stories with us. The waitress Sarah was also wonderful and did a really god job in serving us. For those who love dirty martinis, I found that Francisco at the Luna Lounge did the best ones!

Beach
- The service at the beach was excellent thanks to Perla, Marina and Juana. They made us laugh and kept the drinks coming. If you like walking, this beach is long and beautiful.

And finally the entertainment staff is great as well and the shows are worth attending - they are top quality. Cesar is truly excellent and a pleasurable person to talk to.

Overall with the great service, small resort atmosphere, excellent beach, excellent food, this resort is a gem. We will definitely return!
