The location can't be beat its right off of "5th Avenue" with tons of shopping and eating as far as the eye can see. The hotel is very small, more like a boutique hotel with basic amenities rather than a resort. If you are looking for a resort don't stay here. The pool area is small but relaxing. We went in July of last year so it was hot as Hades but we got a great deal. Upon arriving at the hotel after my long walk from the bus depot (I took the local bus from the airport rather than a taxi because it was cheaper but upon arriving at the bus depot I should have taken a taxi to the hotel, it was a long walk with luggage in the heat) I was accosted by a nice but unrelenting sales woman to do the all inclusive, based on reviews and cost I passed. Which I'm glad I did, it wasn't needed with all the great dining in the area. When I arrived in my room I was pleasantly surprised it was clean, cool, and fairly comfortable. I didn't have any of the issues as others with plumbing or cooling issues. It was older but will meet basic needs. The air conditioning unit though loud did the job of cooling the room and I liked that there was a lot of storage space in the room, with 3 girls that's needed. The staff could have been friendlier they were below average, often taking a long time to provide towels and other necessities. They also gave us a hard time and wanted us to pay for an additional guest in the room one evening. I know security was just doing their job, but it seemed a racket to have our guest pay for a bracelet when they were only staying a few hours. That was the one staff negative. The area is wonderful, we found cheap awesome Mexican fare not far from the hotel. And lots of restaurants have great lunch deals, with nachos and buckets of Corona, a must. Across the way from the hotel is a gelato place which is a must have on a hot day. There are more expensive restaurants as well if you want finer fare. And the beach isn't far, whoever said that is lazy. Just walk onto the avenue and hit a corner to your left and you will be there in a short block or two. The partying was amazing, admission to a lot of night clubs were free and sometimes with free drinks before a certain hour and we saw amazing shows, fire, dance, etc. at a number of venues and even a free show off the avenue with free drinks and food! The staff at these places were all amazing as well. Partying lasted in the wee hours of the morning, awesome!! DJ Marvin at Coco Maya is a must!! We always felt safe because we never wandered very far from the strip, you don't have too, everything is just a few steps away. I would try a different hotel but would love to return to 5th Avenida again. And when leaving to go back to the airport, don't reserve a taxi at the hotel walk a few blocks and get one off the street. I didn't feel like taking the bus back to the airport so I had to eat the cost because I didn't have time to shop around, easily a $50 cab ride or more. The cabbie knows you can't haggle either at that point and the hotel will lie about the cost.
