“Pretentious, pricey and pushy - wouldn't recommend”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012 via mobile

We had a two week holiday in playa staying at a hotel close to wickys. We thought we would hang out here for the day on a sun lounger. After ordering a drink, we were horrified when the waiter came over and asked us to order something else as the manager was watching us and we werent spending enough money to warrant the use of the loungers. With only another couple of people using them and lots of free beds we were a bit surprised. We had an ultimatum - spend some more money or pay 10usd for each sunlounger. We picked up our things and walked down the beach to our playa favourite la Tarrraya where we had delicious authentic food for great value! Whats more we were left with a bitter taste and the sense of money grabbing management at wickys. Would not recommend, although a sweet waiter who merely delivered management's ridiculous orders.

“Disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2012

We have been regulars to Playa Del Carmen for many years and for the last few years regulars at Wickys. We tend to stay in Playa for up to 3 months at a time and would go to Wickys at least 2 if not 3 times a week. Having recently arrived for another 3 month stint off we went to Wickys who now have a bar actually on the beach and really is the most perfect setting. We decided to sit at the bar for a drink before eating. The female behind the bar was not busy however decided to ignore us until her boss came over and prompted her. With a sullen face she then came over, we asked for several beers before there was one which they actually had - no corona, sol, dos xx, Pacifico, modello it's not like we were asking for imported beers. She then told us she had 2 dos xx amber left so we had them whom she waited for a waiter to come up from the beach and walk round the bar with them rather than putting them on the bar for us herself. It's such a lovely setting we decided to have another drink after our beer and I ordered a mudslide. A bar waiter went to the inside bar for this so I did not see it being made - unfortunate, as soon as I tasted it I knew it was wrong, it had piña colada mix in it. Rather than wait another 10/15 mins to get it sorted I went to the inside bar myself to chat with the bartender as I thought there had been some kind of mix up. I explained to him that I had ordered a mudslide but received a rather peculiar piña colada. He said that it was a mudslide with piña colada because he didn't have the correct ingredients to make a mudslide!!! I would rather have been told this and chosen something else rather than both our times being wasted. As it happens I did change the drink for a Golden Cadillac Margarita which when it arrived was awful and like drinking a bad glass of orange juice!!! We paid and left. We won't be returning to this bar which means the restaurant is off the menu too. I enjoy a cocktail before lunch or dinner. There are plenty of good beach bars/clubs to choose from so it's not all bad news and they are not as expensive.

“Disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

We reserved the deck for a party before our wedding. Space was great, but overall we were disappointed:
- They ran out of most of the beers
- Bartenders were constantly trying to rip off our guests (trying to charge $8/shot of tequila. After you complained, they dropped the price)
- While we agreed to pay for chips and salsa, the price they tried to charge us was outrageous for what was provided. Some negotiations were required to reduce this charge (by 90%)
- We brought 60 people to the bar and we were the ONLY ones there. Management should have been much more intent on keeping us happy

“Fantastic Burgers and staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

Ate here last night, read reviews and wanted burgers, although they only serve them during the day we went just after 5 and the waiter asked the chef who kindly cooked us the best burgers we've had in a long time. Don't know why people were whining on here about prices excellent value for money 110 pesos for a homemade perfectly cooked burger with all the trimmings. Evening menu also looked fantastic.
