“Great resort and such friendly staff....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW via mobile

My wife and I stayed at the Royal Hideaway from the 3rd Jan - 17th Jan.
It was our first visit to Playacar and we absolutely loved the whole experience.

The hotel is located on a great stretch of beach next to many other hotels and within walking distance (15-20mins) of 5th Avenue if you wish to go shopping or eat outside of the resort.

We were welcomed on our arrival with a refreshing towel and glass of champagne before being shown to our room.
The room itself was a nice size and had everything you need for a comfortable stay.
We were upgraded from our block 26 in the second week of our stay due to our blocks Concierge going on holiday, we were moved into block 30 which was located nearer to the beach and pool and it was lovely, it had views of the sea and the gardens from the balcony which really ended our second week on a high.
Our only criticism of this resort and we had read this before we booked was the noise of the doors when they close. Because of the construction of the accommodation blocks the sound really echoes throughout. This could be so easily rectified with soft close doors.

The restaurants at the resort Palazzo, The Grill and Azia were our favourites. The breakfast choice at spices where you have your buffet breakfast had a great selection of food for everyone but we found Spices for dinner not quite as good.
The Deck restaurant by the pool for lunch was really good and the addition of the daily BBQ / Buffet which is set up adjacent to the pool is also a well thought option as well.
We went to the Club Royale at the hotel and watched the local show preformed by the hotel staff and this was entertaining, the food choice was limited but of very good quality.

The hotel grounds and gardens are well maintained and everything was being regularly cleaned on the many paths and bridges throughout the resort.

We had read some reports that the hotels next to the Royal Hideaway are loud and noisy, yes you can hear the other hotels entertainment but it is not offensive and does not continue all through the night.

We were so impressed with all of the staff at this resort, they really made us feel genuinely welcome and always met us with a friendly big smile.

This is a hotel we will definitely be returning to due to its great staff firstly and secondly due to its location in Playacar.

I have visited this same resort for 3 consecutive years for the week of July 4th. I sincerely do not have a favorite restaurant because they are all great. I do have a favorite bartender. His name is Armondo Yam and I look forward to seeing him again this year as we have become friends. This property is excellent for relaxing with a significant other with upscale dinning.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are close enough to the beach that it really doesn't matter.

This hotel offers everything a holiday should.... outstanding!

We couldn't recommend this place enough, we stayed in a superior garden view room which was lovely and spacious.. included a walk-in wardrobe and large bathroom/balcony. You have your our concierge in each block of rooms which is so handy. They can book anything from restaurants to trips when you leave your room for breakfast.

The breakfast buffet was incredible, so much selection and included a omelette station and fresh juice bar where you could create your own fresh fruit juice/smoothie. This was located in the Mexican restaurant which had beautiful views over-looking the ocean.

The large pool area offered a huge bar, well staffed and beautiful day beds scattered around in the shade ready for an afternoon nap!

There were plenty of restaurants - Sushi, Mexican, Grill, Italian, Fine Dining and a Theater which had weekly performances and a large buffet. We had excellent meals every time and didn't need to complain once about the food. Each restaurant has a different theme/decor so its likes eating out every night.

They also include champagne afternoon tea in the grand foyer, which is lovely & classic and makes a nice break from the busy pool area.

The beach is beautiful and located on the hotel grounds, white sand and clear sea.... it's also a lovely walk along the beach, we walked for 30 minutes and it was so much fun passing all the other hotels and activities in the sea!

There is so much to say about this hotel, I can't wait to go back and highly recommend it for anything type of break!

Room Tip: Superior Garden View - was lovely spacious room but seaview would be better!

Outstanding all-inclusive resort on Mexico’s Riviera Maya. Lovely ambiance, accommodating staff, and biggest surprise of all: excellent restaurants, on par with top choices in major cities. We chose this resort because of its Leading Hotels affiliation, but, having stayed at an “all inclusive” resort before, kind of prepared ourselves for food that would be acceptable rather than exceptional. Were we wrong…and we are serious foodies. All the restaurants offer impressive wine lists (premium choices at surcharge), but the ‘all inclusive ‘ house wines were most certainly fine selections. Only complaint -- hard to get a good martini!

Room Tip: patios in some of the rooms are small and a bit on the pokey side == plastic table and two chairs ar...

We love the Riviera Maya. This resort is as good as everyone says. It's not new, but very well maintained. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed. Water pressure is good in the shower. The sink and shower faucets work well, but are old and are due for upgrades. This place even features "Rituals" soap and shampoo. Rituals is a premium Dutch brand body wash and shampoo that I just love. I was pleasantly shocked to see a resort feature this brand. We were looking for quiet and relaxing...and that's what we got. BUT, from my observation, this place skews a little to the older crowd; 60+ (We're in our early 50's and I prefer a 40's scene). This means that although we saw many folks our age and younger, the after dinner bar music featured covers of "Lady In Red" and Kenny G instead of Genesis and Dave Mathews. Don't get me wrong, this is a beautiful, upscale resort. We loved it.

This resort was different from others we have been to in that instead of large typical "hotel" blocks of rooms, the resort is comprised of 2 and 3 story self contained "Villas" - - each with it's own Concierge. Our Concierge was Israel. He was friendly, and extremely helpful. Although I brought a "collard" shirt and dress shoes for dinner, I did not bring dress pants. This resort requires dress pants (no jeans) for dinner; uh oh...I thought I was screwed! Israel made arrangements for me to borrow a pair of dress pants (at no charge!); problem solved! He was a lifesaver and a real good guy; and was genuinely interested in making our time at the resort the best it could be! He is a definite asset to this place!

One of our frequent servers at lunch, at the Deck Restaurant, Javier. He was great. Fast, Friendly and Genuine! During the day, Armando, at the Deck Bar transformed my vague flavor ideas into delicious blender concoctions. A master bar tender who really looked like he loved his job. In fact everyone we encountered seemed to really be happy and like what they were doing. For me, the reflects well on the management.

The beach was great too. This was important for me. The spa was very nice too. Although I did not indulge in a massage, I was able to use the Sauna and Steam Room for free. This was also a pleasant surprise as most resorts typically charge to access these amenities. The one thing that is not completely accurate is the "10 minute" walk into town; it's more like 20-25 minutes. Take a taxi, it's only $10. The food was very good, but not exemplary. We found many of the presentations delicious, but overly "involved" and complicated. The food was good. I want it to look good too, but I'm hungry. I just want to eat. I don't need an art master piece on my plate.

Finally, my wife tells me that Gabriella at the salon was excellent! And my wife is psycho-picky about who does her hair!

Room Tip: Wifi is spotty but works.

Moved here from secrets Capri (as awful ) best move we made. The resort is so relaxing and the staff are great. Good choice of places to eat . Only grip was noise outside rooms early morning and large parties booked into for dining on two occasions which where loud and rather drunk. Also treatment rooms a little loud . But all in all a great place to go to unwind and no hard sell when there

Stayed here in 2012. Hotel was very quiet, no entertainment. Beach was nice but too quiet. Drinks were the best, service was amazing. Lounge chair, sun shelters and buckets of corona on the beach was unlimited. Beautiful hot tubs and small pools near the rooms. Did not find the food or restaurant to have any variety. Nice place but not for me
