We enjoyed our day at Xcaret for a few reasons; it offers a nice balance of things to do and things to see. Part zoo, part water park, the kids were well-entertained. The park is reasonably clean.
A couple of notes; the park is not inexpensive. It's expensive to get in, and then there are additional charges for dolphins, sharks, etc. By the way, it seems like these additional charges are negotiable since the longer we stood there contemplating, the greater the discount they offered us. We chose this park because we thought we'd wrap a dolphin experience, zoo and cenotes visit into one trip but the ceynotes are man-made (or seem man-made) and do not at all compare to the ones we visited later in the week and, for the price, the dolphin experience was jut OK. Also, we visited on the early side and, thus, our children were too exhausted to stay for the show at 7PM. If we were to visit again, we'd arrive around 3PM and stay for the show, avoiding the dolphins, etc.
Also, we were told by park employees that we should go directly to the lazy river/cenotes thing to start our day but we'd wished we'd saved that for later to avoid the crowd and avoid ending up on the opposite side of the park in wet clothes. I'd advise saving the wet stuff until after lunch. Speaking of lunch; if you happen to be traveling with a child with food allergies, forget finding someone who understands this concept. If you're really nervous, bring your own food or buy something packaged. We ended up with plain pasta from a buffet because it was literally the only thing we trusted not to have nuts.
Finally, this park was a good choice for our children (5 & 9) but older children will likely be more entertained by one of the area parks with more adventuresome activities (like Xplor)
