This hotel was amazing, we stayed during BPM festival and were expecting lots of noise. Our room was perfectly quiet and a great escape from the hustle and bustle of playa. The location was amazing right in the heart of everything. The service was great from front desk staff in particular Francisco who helped us to book tours and find our way around. The housekeeping staff were also amazing the room was always immaculate. Would certainly recommend and would stay again.

Since 2006 we've stayed previously at the Playacar Palace, The Royal Playa del Carmen, the Hotel La Tortuga and now The Hotel El Punto. All are fine hotels in very different ways. What made El Punto so perfect and really special for us when we stayed there Christmas week 2014 was (1) its LOCATION which is second to none right on Fifth Avenue in the heart of Playa and (2) the warm, friendly attentive PERSONAL SERVICE by its staff. As a small boutique hotel with just 16 rooms, Lula, Francisco and the other staff made us feel like we were family visiting for the holidays, jumping through hoops to make our visit a truly memorable one!

Our room (#29, a master suite on the 3rd floor with a balcony directly overlooking Fifth Avenue) was everything we had hoped for -- large, well-equipped and kept meticulously clean each day by our housekeeper. We really loved the firm bed.

Some earlier reviews mention the noise factor here. We chose the El Punto for its superb location first and foremost, so we knew that having a balcony overlooking Quinta Avenida would normally be noisy during the week of Christmas, no matter where we stayed in Playa. We actually found noise to be a non-issue and had absolutely no problem sleeping very well each night, having even brought along our own "white noise generator" which plays the soothing sound of breaking beach waves all night long and it pretty much neutralized any unwanted noise. This was completely effective, even on New Year's Eve when revelers partied well past dawn out on the streets. Our room also featured heavy-duty light and sound blocking drapes which we noticed made a BIG difference when they were drawn. Also, we never heard any sounds between rooms.

Our included delicious continental breakfast just across the street at Mi Pueblo was a wonderful way to start our day and we upgraded to a full breakfast several mornings for just a few dollars. Service there was also superb.

We were just about a 3-4 minute walk to the beach and took advantage of the hospitality of several beach clubs nearby for our beach days.

If you are looking to stay at a fun location in "the heart of Playa" with unbeatable people watching from the comfort of your own suite, don't miss the chance to book one of the El Punto's 4 balconied Master Suites. There is nothing else quite like it in Playa that we know of!

One last thing: On New Year's Day, we awoke to a sight we had never seen before in all our trips to Playa -- a cruise ship sitting just off shore as we stepped out onto our balcony with our holiday mimosas -- Happy New Year! (see the photo we snapped)

Noisy, very poor breakfast and smelly.
Stayed 2 nights at this hotel. Location is fabulous, but due to be in the middle of 5th av. the fuss of the night makes you stay wake up all night long. They should invest in some more efficient noise isolation windows. The other negative point is the breakfast. As they do not have a restaurant, they send you to the Tropical restaurant in front of the hotel. Your breakfast is resumed in two toasts, a cup of coffe and a glass of orange juice... and that´s all. I think is to few for the daily rate they charge you.
And at last, there were a terrible smell coming from the bathroon (sewer). I´ve got a Lysoform spray at the reception which helped to reduce this disconfort.
There are several other hotels in the area that might be considered as alternative.

Room Tip: Take the rooms that do not have windows to the 5th av.

If you want to sleep on your holiday DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT stay here. 1) it’s on 5th Avenue (noise from bars/clubs till the early hours of the morning) and 2) there was construction work going on next door from 8am everyone morning to 8pm every night (November 2014). The owners should have forewarned all guests regarding the construction work and/or given them the option of a full refund (which we enquired about after the first night and was told it was not possible without forfeiting what we had already paid) as it was quite simply the least relaxing beach holiday I have ever experienced. I cannot see how/why this hotel was so highly rated in previous years on this website (even without the noise issues the rooms smelt of damp/mould).

Room Tip: As far off 5th Avenue as possible (although even that didn't help with construction noise).

Don't stay here if you want to get any sleep!!!

Hotel El Punto did not meet our expectations. Yes - the hotel was centrally located (between busy restaurants and nightclubs - not advertised) and yes - the hotel had trendy, funky decor (with a bed as hard as concrete and strange damp, musty smell) but we did not get a wink of sleep while staying here. When we arrived, we were given a room at the front of the hotel on the second floor. The noise of revellers and music base from the night clubs kept us up all night. When we complained, we were moved to a "quiet room" giving us the impression that this wasn't the first time they'd had noise issues. Although our new room was quieter during the evening (but still not completely devoid of music-base), construction work on the restaurant located directly below our room meant that we were woken at 8am following morning with the room vibrating, the sound of jackhammers and construction workers on the landing outside our room window. When we complained about the construction work, reception said it would be complete in 24 hours but it wasn't.

My advice, if your looking for a romantic getaway like we were, look elsewhere. The same goes for the party animal, because if you need to catch up on your sleep during the daylight hours, it probably won't happen at Hotel El Punto. Also, if they advertise "breakfast included" in your hotel package, you should note that you'll receive a single slice of toast and watery coffee - don't let it be a draw card.

Room Tip: Make sure you request a room off the main street if you make the mistake of booking at this hotel.

Very clean, right in the heart of town. Would recommend to all.
Wish we could have stayed there for another week. If you go, please do your self a favor and don't act like a gringo by eating at Burguer King, (a block away) they are great restaurants all around....

This hotel has a great service and a really comfortable room. Check in experience was nice and helpful. However the key thing about it was it`s location who is on the main street but not on the nightclubs street. You`re close to everything without the noise...
The hotel doesn't worth the $USD300 night I paid but it is a really crowded season around so if you`re not on holidays the prices should be a lot better.
The room is small but stylish with a nice bed a nespresso machine and a flat tv. They also offer free wifi.
The thing I didn't like is that my room have a window that doesn't open and painted... so what I got was just a room with some clarity.
Breakfast is in a restaurant close by and since they do not have pool they offer coupons and vouchers to the beach club close by.
The city offers many options of restaurants shopping and night clubs that are open until late and if you like that this hotel is a good option. However keep in mind it seems everybody come here to celebrate new year... so the streets get packed, restaurants and tours full... it can be expensive and a hustle.
