This was my first trip to Mexico so I did not have any expectations. Upon arriving to the Azul Fives, I was taken back with how beautiful it was. Being a city boy I really appreciated the modern look and feel the resort had. I was welcomed instantly the moment I stepped out of the cab and was offered assistance with my luggage by friendly staff. The front lobby was beautiful; very open and bright with modern furniture and displays. The bathrooms were cool too. The interior decorating was polished to perfection and it was themed nicely. Luckily they offered currency exchange at the front desk as I only had Canadian dollars.
The food was absolutely fantastic. They had a variety of restaurants which varied from family to cuisine with food selections a whole family would enjoy. I’m a very picky eater so I’m always hesitant when I travel, but much to my surprise I ordered everything twice on the menu. I highly suggest the Lizard Lounge for lunch- their pizzas are AMAZING! There is a buffet restaurant located beside the spa which is absolutely stunning. I had a personal hotspot up near the top where the walls were all windows. You could either have the buffet or you could order meals. They had a wide range of breakfast assortments (bacon, eggs, soup, cereal, pancakes, waffles, customized omelettes, fruit, fresh bread from the local trade community, desserts). I ate it all- and then some. There are a few other restaurants that are also great with selections. The service was always fantastic- friendly and comforting. I was always greeted with a smile and a “Hola”.
The Spa is unbelievable. I’ve had my experiences at a few Spas and I must admit that this was the best designed, most relaxing one I have ever been to. The lobby starts off light with soft colours and simple decorating, but as soon as you enter to the doors you are escaping into the wonderful world of peace and relaxation with water fluttering underneath you as you follow the dark wood deck to the change rooms. The change rooms were awesome- modern and up to date with cool trends. There was a door that lead from the change room to a room that offers hot and cold tubs, showers, a steam room and lounge chairs. I obviously underestimated the Sun on my first day there and got a nice burn so the deep tissue massage was out of the question- so I went and did the most awkward thing a man could ever do- I got a plastic wrap smoothing skin fold thing?. It was amazing because I was smothered with vitamins and oils, folded with cold towels and then got a facial while I was glued together with towels. They end the session with a simple clang of the bell – once I was dressed back into my robe I was escorted to the resting lounge where I instantly fell asleep. I have never been so relaxed in my entire life. Thankfully near my last day I was healed up and was able to get a full body massage- my experience was just as wonderful as the first time. The staff was absolutely perfect- everyone was involved in making the experience that more real and enjoyable.
Now the rooms- don’t even get me started. I had the experience of being in two separate rooms. The first room was on the first floor and had 2 double beds, balcony, huge shower, mini fridge, safe, closet, bath robe and bathroom- all open concepts. Very well designed and structured. Would assume this would be for friends travelling for vacation or for families with kids. The hotel buildings themselves are designed to look like a Miami or LA condo. They got it bang on. Each Unit section has an elevator to each floor as well as a double stair case. The suites on the second level are just simply amazing. I couldn’t grasp the fact at how big the rooms were when I first walked in. Right when you open the door you have this brand new kitchen with all stainless steel appliances, massive storage coverage for plates, groceries, etc. Fridge, stove, microwave and toaster all supplied. It had a massive Island counter top that sat 4 stools with access to sink. Behind the island was this very up to date dining table. It honestly could have sat 12-15 people. The counter beside the table was full of 24 ounce bottles of booze; Very convenient. The balcony was so big it followed along the condo so it appeared to be spacious and private with lounge chairs and a table. Across the dining table was a massive L couch that clearly would sit a family with a Big TV and DVD player. Connecting to the living was the Master Size bedroom with sliding doors for privacy from the common area. The en suite Jacuzzi, the stand up with seat shower with foggy glass and rain fall shower head made it feel like a trip to the Spa but in the comfort of my room. There was a massive closet, a His and Her sink and giant mirrors with two bathrooms. Did I mention the fridge is packed with beer, sodas and water all ready for your service to enjoy? ‘Cuz Yup It was! They definitely treat you well here.
The pools were great- The pool bar staff was even greater. Shout outs to my home boys Santiago and Abraham for giving me and my friend some great laughs and funny memories. The staff was perfectly structured for each job- the organization and cleanliness of the resort showed this. While walking around from my room to the beach there are many things. Hammocks, a giant chess and checkers board, a tennis court, tons of chairs and space to relax on the beach and sand. There is a separate kids club- it reminded me of a McDonalds playhouse. It looked rather exciting and adventurous for young children. There is a teen bar with some pool tables and lounge chairs with cool music, as well as the sky bar lounge which hosted a party every night- the outside patio with candlelight chairs and sofas overlook the pool and water under the sun or stars. It’s a breath-taking site during the day and at night. There is a convenience store that sells everything you may need or want if your home sick for a chocolate bar, as well as a fairly nice sized gym with all the equipment you need for a great workout. It is only a 15 minute cab to downtown Playa (which I highly recommend you visit). So many great restaurants and shops- The swingers bar was my personal favorite. The day and night vibes are completely different and both really awesome.
After staying with Azul Fives for a few days and I can safely say that my stay was absolutely fantastic. I would highly recommend this resort for any couples, group of friends, families or retired couples. Everything and everyone (children, teens, middle age and elders) blend very well here. The staff is fantastic and the resort is very well ran. My gratitude goes out to the owners and operators for running such a wonderful resort. There is no doubt in my mind that if I ever travel back to Mexico (which I will be doing again), that I will be booking with the Azul Fives. Don’t just take my word for it- you have to experience it for yourselves.
