We stopped here twice during our stay in Play del Carmen. Once for drinks and light food and another for dinner. Both were awesome.
The restaurant is located in a much more quiet part of avenida quinta. This is the far northern end which is not as touristy and much more sophisticated and hip. It has a large indoor seating area and a smaller outdoor area, both are very nice.
Their mojitos and cuba libres are amazing. You literally have not had either until you have them with cuban rum and with cane sugar coca-cola.
They had a very talented live band every time we came playing salsa. People would get up randomly to dance. We saw everyone from locals to tourists, families to people on dates. It is so friendly and nice here. You can sign your name on the wall too. Look for a sketch of a monkey holding a mojito near the doors to the outdoor area, thats my mark!
We had the orange chicken, which did not disappoint. It was falling-off-the-bones tender. The sweet plantains and tostones were so good. The rice was excellent as well. I wish I had stayed longer and tried their vaca frita.
This is also a good place to buy AUTHENTIC Cuban cigars. Many places claim to sell them but they are almost always fake. This place has the real deal. For those of you from the United States this may be your only opportunity to try one.
The drinks were a little pricey for Mexico, but still overall reasonable considering its tourist beach location. They definitely do not pour lightly here, so be careful!
The only disappointment is their Cafe Cubano is served unsweetened. It is not brewed with sugar as is customary. I guess I'll have to stick to south Florida for the authentic stuff.
