“Great Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2012

My husband and I were having dinner again at Il Baretto when I noticed the Trip Advisor Award hanging on the wall of the restaurant. Congratulations Il Baretto! You definitely deserve the award! We have been to the restaurant many times and count it one of our favorite places in Playa. The food is always delicious and the service is great--a big thank you to Jose Poot who does an amazing job even when the restaurant gets super busy. Keep up the good work! We will visit Il Baretto again soon. Oh, and Il Baretto is a great place to people watch on 5th Avenue too.

“If you want to eat Italian in playa”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2012 via mobile

This is probably the place you should go. Not excellent but surely above the average that you can find in playa del carmen. Good pizza baked on wooden oven.

“Eh...average.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2012

Best thing about this restaurant? Location. The Italian food was mediocre and flavorless. The only thing we enjoyed was the vegetarian pasta. They were busy busy so we understood the somewhat slow service. The bathroom had no light and since we were inside, close to the stone oven, it was hot!

After the meal, we paid our bill and left 100 pesos tip. That was about 14 pesos short of 10%. Before we left the waiter came back to our table to tell us that the norm is 10% and we did not give him enough. Woah!!! We thought tipping was optional. :( That made us uncomfortable. We probably wouldn't go back and would have a hard time recommending it.

“Our "go-to" place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

WE loved this place. Reasonably priced and gave us everything we wanted and more. Pizza great, arugula salad fresh and delicious. Pastas were perfect. Felt like you were in Italy. Service has been very good. Ask for their pesto dip to dip your bread in. We got some to go and had it in our condo with bread for several days. We were amazed, really that we were eating on 5th Avenue and the menu was so reasoable. I thik the first time there we spent $60.00 for four of us with a glass of wine or beer a piece, entree, appetizer of a pizza and dessert to share.

“Good pizza, fresh salad, nice staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2012

We ate here because we were starving and did not want to walk far (and because La Fragata was closed). Did not expect much from an Italian pizza place, but it was all good. The salad mist was large and very fresh romaine with veg, the pizza margherita was very tasty (I love a thin crust pizza like that), and my husband said his pasta with pesto was really good. All in all, a good well-priced dinner
