“Great place but...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2006

We loved our stay there. It's on a busy road but when you get through the door you realise you have entered a special place. The room was romantic and pretty, with a massive four poster bed, lovely toiletries. Chocolates and a bottle of wine await on the bed on arrival. Outside every room there is a private sitting area but we just hang out round the pool, which is fabolous. We arrived late and had dinner prepared just for us by the most friendly in house chef - we dined around the pool with candle light - really magic.

Only one thing spoiled the whole experience: look at your bill when you check out, because they tend to apply different food and drink rates than they publish in the rooms. One of the managers was really rude and even when he found out that the bill was wrong he made it look like he was doing us a favour! This made us leave with a bad taste in our mouth, which was a real shame since we had such a good and relaxing time there. Unfortunately it completely reversed the feeling that we had stayed at a friend's house.

Spent a week in March, using the Villa as a base for day trips exploring the incredible Mayan sites (6) and beaches of Progreso and Celestun with our amazing guide Rodolfo(recommended by the owner) The hotel was truly a haven in the bustling capital city of the Yucatan. The staff was professional and friendly, offering suggestions and creating memorable meals by the pool. The hotel is located on a busy street, but once inside the door, it's a quiet and beautiful oasis.

After staying at the villa, I can't see the justification for charging three times the going rate in Merida. The service was spotty at best, sometimes insulting and not at all what is portrayed on the web site. The villa itself is quite beatiful but the management was below amateurish. Not to mention the fact that it is located across the street from a funeral home. And finally at our check out they attempted to charge an extra $1000.U.S. This is an honest assessment of our stay. Never again!!

My husband and I stayed here one night with our 11 year old daughter. The villa has been lovingly restored to create a luxury experience. The food was the best we had while we were in Mexico and better than most five star hotels. The chef prepared each meal to our individual preferences including amazing vegetaian dishes and a tender, flavorful steak.

The staff and management were gracious and accomodating. The room was beautifully decorated and comfortable.

I was disappointed that it was't walking distance to other restaurants and sites. If you are interested in Mexican architecture, spend at least one night here on your next trip to Merida. It is beautiful!

I have spent three day at "the villa@merida", in
Merida , Yucatan , MEXICO
The hotel is located in a beautifull renovated hacienda , 10 mn from the city
center . It is peacefull ; the gardens are superb , with a pool in the middle .
The rooms are large and comfortable.
Above all , the atmosphere is both friendly and discrete . The staff is very
helpfull and skilled .
I have spent three weeks travelling across Mexico , and this is the place where
I really felt at home the whole three days .
I would also like to mention the food , which is outstanding , from breakfast to
dinner . ( being french , I am supposed to be an expert!!). You ask the chef a
aztec dinner , and he takes care of the whole meal . It is worth the price .

A truly wonderful hotel - beautiful rooms, flawless service and friendly staff. A real gem. A must if you are travelling to Mexico. We were sad we could only stay 1 night.

My family and I recently completed a week in the Yucatan and Campeche. The Villa at Merida was our last stop and one of our only regrets on the entire trip was that we had only one night in the Villa. From the moment we arrived until we left, the staff were welcoming, friendly, and efficient. We arrived from the airport at Merida (also excellent, by the way, with modern terimals and friendly staff) in the heat of the day and taken straight to our rooms with no delay spent at a 'Front Desk'. In fact, there isn't one. We then took the kids to the pool and spent the afternoon enjoying the sun. Our refreshments were replenished throughout the afternoon.

Although the Villa is on one of the main streets of Merida and within ten minutes of the airport, you would never know it. The location is very central but once you go through the front door, it is like entering a different time and place. The entire property is peaceful and beautifully decorated. (NB The website has many photographs which are true to the property.) The rooms are full of character, very comfortable, with great amenities and this hotel was the only one during our trip that made sure we had two additional small beds for the children.

For dinner, we walked from the hotel to central Merida and found a restaurant then walked back to the Villa. We had evening drinks in the courtyard, enjoying the peace and tranquility and the lovely sound of the fountain; so peaceful that my little boy fell asleep in my lap.

Due to an early flight, we had to leave the hotel at 6am the next morning. Despite the early hour, our breakfast was waiting for us at 5:45 am (as requested) and our transportation to the airport was ready and provided at no additional charge.

I travel extensively on business in Europe and I have rarely experienced a hotel as friendly and elegant as the Villa. We were treated like guests, not customers. It is a hidden gem and one I will certainly return to.
