The new La Tratto is a beautiful addition to Santa Lucia square currently undergoing a major renovation.
Achoring the square at Calle 60, the modern restaurant was delayed many times due to a number of compliance issues since the restaurant is housed in an historic space. (our guess would be the elevated wine room on steel beams in the bar area and the totally new restrooms housed in a separate courtyard building).
The large bar divides the indoor space with an open kitchen, roaring pizza oven and upper level wine room behind it and seating at custom tables on the Calle 60 side. The architect wisely opened the street side with large fixed-pane windows to seduce passing pedestrians into the handsome interior.
The owners placed a majority of the seating on the Santa Lucia square where 100 comfortable seats and scattered umbrellas create a very welcomed European atmosphere to downtown. (The new Mansion on the Square Hotel is another example of "next-level" ambience the city is witnessing).
We were delighted to see lower priced wines by the glass at the new La Tratto since we have, in the past, criticized the original La Tratto and Trotter's for their wine mark-ups and pours.
Since we were there to simply check out this newcomer, we played it safe and had a Margherita pizza and bistro salads. The kitchen staff and pizzaiola prepared both perfectly. Our food was pleasantly served by our waitress, Maria José.
The restaurant is so new that only a few patrons were there the night we visited (much to the huge waitstaff's chagrin) but we're sure that won't last to much longer once the word is out about this exceptional additon to Centro's dining scene.
