Casa Thai brings authentic and delicious home-style Thai food to Merida. Tucked away on a frontage road which parallels Avenida Yucatan in the general vicinity of Altabrisa Mall, this small restaurant located in a converted residence takes on a flavor of its own. The owners are a young, very personable couple who are endeavoring to bring authentic, tasty Thai cuisine at extremely reasonable prices to Merida.
One should not be in any hurry when visiting. All meals are made to order and reflect personal Thai touches put into the dishes served. The resultant meal will be totally worth the casual approach to dining. Thus far, we have found the coconut soup with shrimp, chicken and mushrooms to be exceptional and have also enjoyed both their green or red curry dishes with chicken, green papaya salad, non-spicy fried rice with pineapple and a mixed vegetables dish in savory sauce. Currently, Casa Thai is featuring Phud Thai on Wednesdays, along with their regular menu. Due to limited available servings, as well as the seating, it is best to arrive early to order and then relax and chat over a variety of teas and juices while awaiting your meals.
Since this really has been an emerging venture over the last number of months, it is not surprising to find changes which have been made to the restaurant each time we have visited. There is a three-table dining room inside which we were told will very soon be air conditioned, as well as the primary seating patio with four to five tables maximum. We found dining at Casa Thai with Supalak and Jorge to be more like being invited to share an authentic, wonderfully-prepared, tasty Thai meal in their home as opposed to their restaurant.
